"My dad and I have been going on trips with Patrick for around a year now and it just keeps getting better and better each trip. He s gotten us to come a long ways in just a short time. He is such a good teacher, guide, and person! This trip we must have caught 50 to 60 before noon and had numerous double hitters! Dad and I are so blessed to have a friendship with Patrick and would recommend him to anyone!"

"I am very much a beginner fly fisherman and had the opportunity to spend a half-day fishing the South Holston with Patrick. Wow, did it ever exceed my expectations. Patrick quickly made me comfortable over my lack of experience and helped me enjoy fishing while still learning a lot. I love meeting someone that has such a passion for their profession. His professionalism, enthusiasm and knowledge make him an amazing teacher. He was very patient with a beginner and so knowledgeable about the fish and local waters. I would highly recommend Patrick to all skill levels and I certainly plan to return soon."

"When I met Patrick at a fly show a year ago, I immediately knew I wanted to fish with him. He’s so easy to talk to and humble to a fault. What I didn’t know was that his warm personality is only surpassed by his guiding skills. He is a great teacher, coach, and tactician who isn’t afraid to slip in a jab once in a while to keep it fun.
We hit the South Holston on a day where the river wasn’t very clear but Patrick’s methodical instruction and painstaking observations of what they were feeding on put me on fish all day. Being a relative newcomer I was a little concerned when he put on a #20 zebra midge. I didn’t think I would ever be able to land anything decent on something that small. Patrick just smiled and talked me through it. My biggest was a the 17” Brownie pictured here that I had to horse over a rock ledge to get to the boat. Patrick’s calm direction and his 10’ 4wt Helios rod I was using made it possible. I think I finally exhaled a few minutes after we got it in the boat.

"Had a great time until Patrick saw a snake and shot a hole in the bottom of the boat and we sank. The case of beer did float however. Had a great time!"

"Patrick was an amazing guide! His techniques were comforting. He got you onto the fish and you stayed there all day. His energy transfers onto you almost instantly. But the most impressive part, the hot chocolate on a 28 degree day in the blowing snow was an absolute life saver!!!"

"I have fished South Holston for 12 years Patrick tought me how to kill em with the dry's and the Zebra Midge. I have never cought a fish on a streamer (you tend to catch bigger fish). "I have fished with guides all over North America for many years and I can tell you Patrick is the single best guide I have ever fished with. "I think between my dad and I, we have spent enough money on these trips to have boughten a drift boat haha but it's worth every penny to go on fishing trips with Patrick. He s truly incredible teaching us the sport and is an incredible guy especially when he lands you on a 18 inch brown trout like he did for me yesterday on this trip! haha We had a great day and it was a gorgeous, hot day in February. I even had my shirt off most of the day, holy cow! Patrick got me on a lot of big fish, he s the best. That is all!"

"I began learning to fly fish a couple of years ago, and since then I've had a number of fishing guides take me out on the water. Patrick was one of the most professional guides I've ever been with. We fished in chilly degree temperatures, but with Patrick's hot chocolate, his indefatigable enthusiasm and attention, I never noticed the cold. "It was probably under 30 degrees the whole first half of fishing when we went. Patrick is the man for taking us despite the freezing temperatures, he even brought some yummy hot chocolate! Not only was it delicious it also was very beneficial to keeping our hands warm! And do I even have to say how the fishing was? Everyone who knows Patrick knows no matter what the conditions are, its always a great day of fishing with plenty of catches. Also, besides all the fish caught, I couldnt think of a nicer, more enjoyable person to go fishing with! It truly is like we got the best guide around in our own back yard!"

"Patrick guided my girlfriend and me on the Watauga and put us on some beautiful Rainbows even though the water was high and the conditions weren't great. With Patrick's expert guidance, I caught my first Rainbow ever and we really had a blast. Patrick has an expert knowledge of the ecosystem and entymology relevant to fly fishing and he seems to think like a trout. Patrick is also the consummate professional in helping his clients feel safe and comfortable in his boat and is very engaged and helpful throughout the trip. We had a great experience with Patrick and look forward to our next trip with him!"

We fished for smallmouth and we fished for both on the same trip, Regardless of how many fish we landed, regardless whether we caught 30or60 fish in a given day..The most irritant thing to know is that Patrick is the safest,most conscientious guide I have ever been with! Patrick not only provided fish,he provided a great sense of adventure along with a sense of humor. We solved all the world's problems....more fishing,less complaining . "As far as I'm concerned, "miraculous" is actually spelled: P-A-T-R-I-C-K F-U-L-K-R-O-D! I have fished and hunted with several guides, but all of them combined failed to deliver the "experience of a lifetime" that Patrick Fulkrod did. Patrick is a consummate professional and a "gentleman's gentleman." He has the unique (and rare!) ability to make you feel like you've known him your entire life--within seconds of your initial meeting. He then crafts the day's experience(s) around you after intuitively assessing your needs, wants, and abilities. Master fisherman, boatsman, and "Fish Whisperer," Patrick an conjure up fish where others fail. Miraculous! If you're looking for a relaxing "getaway," or hunting that trophy Brown, Patrick is the man that can make it happen for you. I doubt I'll ever fish with another Guide in my lifetime--he's THAT good (and then some!)"

"I was reluctant at first to spend money on a guide service,but after talking to Or is I decided to give it a try. They hooked me up with Patrick. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable. We fished the South Holston River, we caught more fish than I could number, one of which was am impressive 18" Brown. This was by far one of the best fishing trips I have ever taken. Planning on booking again next year!!!!"

"The week of Nov 12th 2012
We spent four days fishing in the Bristol TN area. Two days were self-directed and two days we fished with Patrick Fulkrod, an Orvis endorsed guide, who bases out of Mountain Sports. This was the sixth time we have fished with Patrick.
Patrick suggested two areas for us to wade self-directed, before we could get on his schedule. The bite in the streams around the Bristol TN is all about the dam generation schedule. Right after the dams stops generation for about an hour, the bite turns on in earnest, and however we caught fish any time.
We were able to talk trout into taking offering despite the dam generation schedule, with the trout being rather picky except for the hour after the dams had shut down generation. As the river level starts to drop, it seemed the trout would eat anything offered.
We fished with Patrick two consecutive days. The first day we fished the an section of the South Holston we had not fished with Patrick before and caught both Browns and Rainbows here and there, but when the water level started dropping we were both hooking up so fast that Patrick, a number of times could not net and release the fish fast enough. Several times we had three large fish in the net at one time with only two of us fishing!!
The second day we fished the Watauga. Fishing was rather slow to start; we were fishing nymphs and indicators. The indicators seemed to be an issue so we switched to a dry fly as an indicator that improved the bite. As the water level got right we were able to go back to indicators in lieu of a dry fly and as the day before were hooking up at the same time resulting again in multiple fish in the net at the same time keeping extremely busy. We caught larger fish on the Watauga than we did or have on the South Holstein both Browns and Rainbows.
There are trophy trout to be caught on both rivers; I think Patrick knows all of their addresses such that he can have you put your fly on their door steps!! The fish of the day was a Brown in the 20-24” class that Patrick had me cast blindly too before entering some fast water. The fish took the 22 size midget, when I set the hook with the 7X tip-it I was broke off. The trout than went for the foam indicator leaving the pheasant tail still on the tip-it.
I fish a Orvis Super Fine Touch 9” 4WT and was somewhat beside myself having missed the fish, knowing that it would have been a fight with the fast water and would have been a fight to remember for years to come. Maybe next year I will have a rematch with that trout or another that Patrick has the address fore!!"
