"First of all, what an awesome person CaptainTom is. Glad to have gotten to know him through our interaction setting up the outing and then spending the day with him. I asked Capt Hughes to show me the ropes on my own boat as I learned the Bay. We went out of the South River and he was a perfect guide. Explaining things about my new boat, to helping me use my plotter, to using lures. He plays down his experience and expertise but this man can put you on some fish! We pulled in 3 large Rockfish (our limit for the day). What a memorable experience. AND, he provided great tasting home made sandwiches made by his wonderful wife. It does not get any better than this. Thank you and can't wait until our next trip."

40 lb Striper on light tackle. I can't say enough about Capt Tom he not only teaches you how to fish he also teaches you about the bay, bait fish, birds and most important safety on the water. I would recomend a trip with Capt Tom the first chance you get.

"Our fishing club has taken an annual fishing trip with Capt. Tom Hughes for the past five years. We can count on Capt. Tom to use his experience and knowledge to provide us with an enjoyable and productive day on the Bay. "Spent great day 10/23 with Tom Hughes guiding on my boat out of Rhode/West River (Second trip with Tom). He patiently showed us all best spots from Poplar up to Bay Bridge. More importantly he taught us how fish react to current and conditions, best approaches to certain spots, even how to set up my Furuno to read mapping and fish finder same screen. Probably caught over 150 + fish with plenty keeper Rock, Blues and Perch. One lesson was when to move on and not waste time on an unproductive spot! Highly recommend Tom to anyone who wants to learn how to fish the mid-bay (Susquehanna and CBBT also!)"

"I had the pleasure of finally fishing with Capt. Hughes a few weeks ago. As a not-so-successful practitioner of Light Tackle Jigging (LTJ), I wanted to improve my knowledge of the technique. When I sought out master guides of LTJ, Tom Hughes' name came up repeatedly as a top guide for LTJ. Sure enough, he showed me how to find the fish, and proper drifting techniques for jigging them up. Boats around us anchored, using cut bait, watched in amazement as we outfished them on each drift. I left with keeper stripers, blues, perch, and confidence to do this correctly on my own boat. Thanks Tom, for a great, educational outing."

"Three of us spent the day on the middle Chesapeake in search of light tackle stripers, blues and perch with Captain Tom. He worked tirelessly to put us over fish, and then gave us great tips and techniques to help us be more successful. He is a great guy, very patient and low key. Very friendly. This was our second trip with him. We are looking forward to many more!"

"A friend and I chartered Capt. Tom in order to learn the ways of Rockfishing in the bay. Tom took the time to demonstrate the types of structure to look for and how the fish move from structure to structure as the tide shifts. Capt. Tom's intimate and comprehensive knowledge of the Chesapeake make him invaluable not only for successful fishing but also for a lifetime of learning."

"My 2 buddies and I celebrated our 50th birthday fishing with Capt Hughes. Caught tons of Rockfish (over 300) and bluefish and perch. Also learned a lot about techniques on catching Rockfish. My arm is still sore. Capt Hughes knows the bay and will make sure you catch fish - lots of it. The boat is also very stable even in rough waters."

"My buddy, Peter, and I had two great days on the middle bay with Capt. Hughes. We are fly fishermen and Capt Hughes worked hard to put us on stripers both days (72 caught and release--all on flies). Peter also caught a 35lb ray. We have used many guides over the years and Capt Hughes rates among the best. He had first class equipment, consistently put us on fish, and was a great source of information on the ways of stripers as well as the history of the area. Two memorable and very enjoyable days of fishing!!!"

Tom delivered with flying colors. "Spring of 2012 was my first chance to topwater fish the Susquehanna Flats for the annual striped bass run. Even though I know the Flats -- I've had a boat on the Upper Chesapeake for about 8 years now -- I didn't know how to fish the striper run, and certainly not on light tackle. Hired Captain Tom Hughes as our guide and had a great trip. Captain Tom put us on the fish and really helped us to understand how and where to fish these waters. No question that he knows these waters and how to fish them. He also knows how to pass that information along. GREAT trip, GREAT guide, GREAT experience."

"We had beautiful weather, the boat and the Captain were great. The fishing was a little slow, but we were the only ones fly fishing on the flats and it appeared we were the only ones catching. CAPT Tom put us on fish with the right patterns. Not bad sandwiches, either."
