"Just returned from a 2 day hunt at this stunning lodge. The setting in the hills of northern Oregon near the Columbia gorge is drop dead gorgeous. The land was planted with Milo, wheat, and cherry orchards which are aesthetically pleasing and are a perfect habitate for the birds. Pheasant, chukker, quail and partridge were more plentiful then I have ever seen. Lots of good hunting. Our guide, Tyla, was remarkable in her handling of the dogs which were perfectly trained. Each meal each day was 5 star as was the service and hospitality of the mcnabs. We had the most relaxed and congenial dinner conversations. Truly a great American experience."

"I loved everything about Highland Hills Ranch, I would highly recommend this place to everyone who is looking for a lodge to go out and do some bird hunting, The hosts were polite, and funny, the cook Keith was amazing every meal was so rich, even just the appearance of the food makes your eyes bulge, the warm inviting smell when you walk into the house, everyone greets you every time you walk in. The hunts were fun there are a lot of birds! the guides are all nice they help you clean your gun when you come in from hunts, offer you water,soda,ETC, the dogs were very well behaved. Another great thing this lodge has is the most amazing scenery they hills you can look out the back window in the main lodging space and see the gorge everything is just perfect! One of my favorite memories at this lodge is one the first day when we got there we went out to shoot some clays' we were experiencing Star Wars (If you want to know what this is you will have to go to the lodge to check it out yourself; but its the greatest thing ever.) Over all experience *****'s everything was AWESOME! highly recommended!!!"

"I did not hunt but really enjoyed the rest and relaxation I needed. I was there for my son and husband, while they hunted. I enjoyed the great view from the lodge.
The lodge was fabulous, the food was excellent and the entire staff was pleasant (felt like we were all family).
I highly recommend this, even if you do not hunt but are there with your husband."

Our guides, Jason, and Gene were remarkable in their hunting format, and the handling of the dogs, which were perfectly trained. We especially appreciated the incredible, small but dynamic, cocker spaniels, Mel and Danny!
A five star lodge, with Keith’s gourmet cooking, and one of the best upland layouts in the country. The food, facilities, atmosphere, were exceptional!
The entire experience was 5 star as was the service and hospitality of the McNabb’s - Dennis and Mindi.
A repeat visit is definitely in the cards!"

"Once or twice a year I round up a group of friends for a get away to a great fishing or hunting lodge. Let's face it, they wouldn't qualify as great if they didn't have great fishing/hunting/shooting/food and accommodations, but Highland Hills is truly over the top. That is why I keep coming back and have already reserved a time for next year.
When you arrive back at the lodge from the day's hunt and you are greeted by a smiling face, a hot towel to clean up, a guide that has already grabbed your gun and is cleaning it, plus a top notch bar to slide into to recap the day..that is over the top in my mind.
Over the top is sitting down at the dinner table and having a round table discussion with all the guests....learning where they are from, what they are all about, what they are enjoying most. This lodge truly encourages group interaction and you meet some amazing people.
The guides and their handling of dogs and managing the hunt is second to none. Safety is emphasized, but fun is the order of the day. Thankfully they don't laugh when you miss, or our guides would have been laughing all day! Fortunately you can count on the fact that there will be lots more opportunities ahead.
The game is processed perfectly and in top shape for the return trip home. I only hope I can cook Chukar as well as the lodge prepares....that is going to take some practice.
Great lodges are great, over the top is what will keep me coming back to Highland Hills."

"I organized a March hunt, with two other avid wingshooting couples, to celebrate my husband's 75th birthday. We all enjoyed the extraordinary time from A to Z! The property holds a plentiful amount of birds: pheasant, quail, chukker, and Hungarian partridge. The guides were highly professional and the dogs were excellent. Beautiful scenery, mild weather, and the rich variety of birds available to shoot added up to an unforgettable experience. The lodge accommodations, staff, cuisine, and guests were all outstanding too. Can't recommend it highly enough! We plan to return in the Fall."

"My son and I spent two wonderful days at this truly outstanding hunting lodge. The setting is beautiful with a great mixture of milo fields, plentiful in pheasant and quail, and highland hilltops with chucker and huns. Our guide and dogs were among the best I’ve hunted with. After a great day’s hunt you return to a first class lodge facility, warm greeting by a friendly staff and owner Dennis Macnab and a great meal. For me, this will be a treasured memory and one that my son will look back on in fondness for years to come."

"HHR IS A BEAUTIFUL LODGE IN A BEAUTIFUL SETTING. I FEEL THE PROBLEM THERE IS THE COMPLETE INFLEXIBILITY OF THE OWNER TO CONFORM TO THE CLIENTS WISHES. THE PLACE IS RUN ON A STRICT CLOCK THAT A PRISON WARDEN WOULD ENVY. THE CHEF RUNS THE SHOW AND IS WAY TOO STRICT. A BUFFET PRESENTATION WOULD BE AN OBVIOUS FIRST CHANGE. WE HAD THE WHOLE LODGE BOOKED BUT COULD NOT ALTER THE SCHEDULE IN ANY WAY ALTHOUGH WE ASKED REPEATEDLY. SOME THOUGHT SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THE SAYING THAT THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT.... ESPECIALLY WHEN ALL OF THE CUSTOMERS WERE IN AGREEMENT THAT WE WERE BEING DRIVEN LIKE RENTED MULES ON A STRICT TIME CLOCK. LET THE CUSTOMER RELAX!!!"

"From the moment we arrived at the Lodge I knew this was going to be an unforgettable experience. The owner’s, Dennis and Mindi Macnab, and the entire lodge staff were lined up in front of the lodge to greet us as if we were some sort of celebrity or royalty. And it only got better from there.
We were taken out to the Sporting Clays course that afternoon with some other guests for a tune-up session on some challenging and fun clay targets which ended with the Star Wars challenge where a continuous stream of targets where launched from a very high bluff directly over our heads with instructions to break them before they passed by the shooters. Every shooter was given 2 full boxes of shells and we went through most of them before the targets stopped coming. When it was all done, everybody was grinning from ear to ear.
The next 2 days were absolutely filled with some of the most challenging bird shooting I have ever experienced. We had a half day on top of the hills overlooking the ranch searching for the elusive chuckers and huns. The other half of the day was spent in the millet and corn fields in the valley for pheasants, quail, chuckers, and huns. There wasn’t a gap of more than 10 minutes both days between points and the action was fast and furious for my shooting partner and me. The guides (Steve Jarvis & Jim Kitchen) and their dogs were outstanding. We shot over Brittany’s, Shorthairs, Pointers, Vislas, and an absolute sweetheart of a Cocker Spaniel flusher.
A true highlight for any guest at the Ranch is to be able to collect a Highland Hills Grand Slam – one each of the 4 species of birds offered on one hunt. I was blessed with extraordinary luck both days and collected a Slam on both afternoon hunts. My 3 friends each collected one on the second afternoon. Hallelujah and ooh-rah!
We left on the 4th morning after breakfast and had our coolers filled with expertly cleaned, vacuum sealed, and frozen game bird breasts from all 4 species.
Keith, our most capable chef, did an excellent job of keeping us satisfied with 3-course offerings at every meal and exceptional game bird hors d'oeuvre right after each day’s afternoon hunt. The rest of the staff, Cindy and Maggie, made sure that we were all taken care of and did not want for anything to make our stay a totally first class experience from arrival until departure. And of course, Dennis and Mindi were ever present making sure their guests were having the best time possible at all times.
A trip to Highland Hills Ranch should be on every bird hunters list of ‘must go’ places. It will be an experience you will never forget."

"From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. The lodge, staff and food were four star. Dennis and Mindi have gathered the best of everything. Comfortable setting, fantastic wing shooting and first rate guides and dogs. The sporting clays the first evening was a great way to get the groups to interact. A great place to spend time with old friends and a great place to make new friends. Beautiful setting wonderfully taken care of. Would recommend to anyone."

"Second year in a row for me and my three sons. An incredible hunting experience in every respect. Hosts, staff, lodge, meals, guides, dogs, cover, birds were ALL exceptional. Can't believe it is over for this year and can't wait to return in the future!!"
