Brian Marz Guided Fly Fishing, OR

I guide fly-fishing trips for trout and steelhead on the McKenzie, Willamette, and Clackamas Rivers. I have been a full-time fly-fishing guide since 2000, and have been an avid angler throughout Oregon since 1993. Trips are conducted with fly-fishing instruction as the basis, while striving to provide an enjoyable time on the water. With proper instruction, the best fishing results can occur; you'll see the trophies, you will catch fish when conditions cause it to be challenging, and you will go home with more know-how on fly-fishing techniques than when you showed up for the trip. I pride myself on having completely satisfied customers after the trip, whether it is from learning a new technique or seeing somewhere stunning and beautiful - while enjoying awesome fishing with not many people around.

Additional Thoughts:Everything was clear and easy.
"My wife and I booked a trip on the McKenzie River with Brian in early August 2013 while we were in Oregon for a family wedding. I fished while my wife birded and otherwise enjoyed the scenario. This was my first float trip of any kind, and my first guided fly fishing trip. I am also a novice fly angler. At our appointed meeting place, we arrived early but Brian was already there. He was ready with his truck, boat, and trailer, with several rods rigged and ready to go. Once we got up to the put-in spot, I started fishing and almost immediately got into the fish (rainbows). In fact, the first few hours of the morning were very lively, with a fish on about every 5 minutes or so. During the course of the day, I landed a total of 29 rainbows, and had about 11 other fish "nearly landed," including a cutthroat or two. There were very few lulls in the action, and when there was, the scenery more than made up for a lack of activity on the water. Brian's float for the day was absolutely spectacular, both in terms for the beauty and the great fishing. Brian's boat is extremely comfortable and efficient for fly casting. His boat is also very safe and stable, and Brian was very safety conscious as we navigated heavier water (asking me to sit down, for instance!); I appreciated his focus on safety. He is also very skilled with the oars. For my wife, it was a great platform for birding, and the birding was quite good (e.g., bald eagles and ospreys). As a novice, I appreciated Brian's patience as he taught me where and how to present the flies. He also is very knowledgeable about this river ecosystem and kept a lively conversation going throughout the trip about various aspects of the river and general area, and the fishery. We stopped at mid-day for a very nice picnic/deli-style lunch. There were several boat launch sites with clean outdoor toilets in the course of the float, so that was appreciated too. Having never been on a guided float trip in the past, I wasn't sure what to expect. This trip far exceeded my expectations. I would recommend Brian very highly, and I would book a trip with him again in a heartbeat the next time our travels bring us back out to Oregon. This would have been a great trip for a parent and child new to fly fishing, or for the most skilled of anglers."

Additional Thoughts:Works very hard to put you on fish
"On June 20,2012 I fished the Williamett River with Brian. I specifically wanted a steelhead but I had no experience with a spey rod. He patiently taught me the basic casts and we were on our way. He shortly positioned us in a great run and I landed a 28' chrome hen steely on a spey rod no less. I also caught beautiful cutthroats on a 3 weight and enjoyed a memorable float trip down a beautiful river. Brian is a great guide and good company...personable, patient and a very skilled fisherman and teacher."
