El Pescador Lodge
El Pescador is the only lodge in Belize endorsed by Orvis that offers such a wide variety of fly fishing. Bonefish, tarpon and permit are all there and you don't have to go far to get them. Bonefish are the main quarry, but permit and tarpon are regularly caught within a short boat trip of the lodge. The lodge specializes in fly fishing, but light tackle fishing and reef fishing are available, and the guides and boats are on hand to make it happen for you.

"Visited El Pescador in mid November. Weather was great and teh fishing was better. Bone fish galore - shots at permit and tarpon. The guides are very knowledgeable and Luis was both on top of his game and f great assistance to me.
The lodge is very comfortable, the food wonderful and the staff warm and friendly. Everyone (and I mean everyone) did everything possible to to make the trip enjoyable and a success. I highly recommend this Lodge and can't wait to return."

"Our group included experienced fly fishers and some first timers. We all had a great time primarily thanks to the superb service oriented staff. Beautiful location, very comfortable, with above average food. Lori Ann provides the best fly casting instruction I've ever had. Highly recommended."

"Spent late April-early May here on our first ever flats fishing trip. This is one of the nicest lodges we've stayed at with an extremely happy and friendly staff, great food and service, and good fishing. Caught numerous bonefish and several barracuda. Unfortunately the winds that made the waters muddy foiled our efforts to go after permit & tarpon, but a great experience anyway."

"Spent the week following Easter fishing at El Pescador Lodge. The facility, staff, and food just simply could not be better! The staff quickly know you by name and take care of your every need with caring and enthusiasm. While an experienced trout fisherman, this was my first time playing the flats fly-fishing game. The El Pescador Fishing Program Director, the Orvis Host, and the El Pescador Guides helped me connect with many dozens of bones and land a couple of permit. In the end, though, think I was the one who was "hooked" by the experience."

Additional Thoughts:Orvis nailed the travel part trip from start to finish.
"My wife and I stayed here Feb 10-16, 2013. I fished she spent time visiting Mayan ruins on a day trip and going into very small town of San Pedro. This was my first real salt water fly fishing trip. Despite 25mph wind I was able to catch some bonefish and others but saw only one group of Permit and no tarpon. While I was there two guests did get a permit. Nice place, good food, friendly, helpful people. The airport is small, easily navigated and everyone there was helpful. English is the official language of Belize. I'd go again."

"My wife and I have been to Australia, Mexico, Hawaii, and the Keys - we looked forward to our first trip to Belize and fishing the flats of Ambergris Key. We felt welcome the minute we arrived, and felt like "family" as everyone already knew our names, and greeted us by name every time.
The accommodations were fantastic - clean, spacious, and everything thought of. Comfortable beds with a view of the ocean.
The food was wonderful, from local-inspired breakfasts to comforting lunches and outside dining for dinner - we didn't go hungry and the family-style dining encouraged friendships and sharing fishing and other activity stories from the day.
The fishing was great - I am a professional guide and understand the challenges of weather, teaching guests about technique and gear, and presentation. Our Guide was professional, courteous, and communicated with us about our goals for the day. We each fished until we were satisfied, catching lots of bonefish and had opportunities to catch tarpon too.
We didn't want to leave Belize, but knowing what we know after a great stay at El Pescador, we'll be back!"

"I have been on many trips before including many Orvis destinations, all have been fun and memorable. This trip simply went above and beyond our dreams. The staff is perfect in every way, the meals, the guides, the facilities, and everything was beyond perfect! This is an amazing fishery, probably the best I have ever fished. The guides demonstrate total respect for it.
Out of the countless guides we have used over the years our guide was simply the best. I have never seen anyone work harder to find fish or ensure that his customers are having an excellent time. The guide's passion was wonderful and we will request him every time."

"We found the perfect desintation for my entire family in El Pescador. Excellent flyfishing for tarpon, permit and bonefish (all were caught), reef fishing and snorkelling for the entire family, relaxing pool and other activities like kayaking and canoeing, and sightseeing. Great owner, management and staff, and great guides. My daughter learned to flyfish during the trip and caught four bonefish even. I recommend this destination to anyone. We will return soon."

"Fantastic guide service, hotel staff, accomodations, and location. Laurie Ann, the fishing director, is an incredible teacher, and had my non-fly-fishing friend catching bonefish on a fly-rod after just a few casting sessions. The guides are all one family and have been fishing the waters for 40 + years. We caught many good sized bonefish ( some 18 + inches)and hooked in to a 50 pound tarpon, only to have it jump and spit the hook. There is so much to do besides fishing as well!"

"We had an excellent trip!! So good that for the past couple days we have not been able to stop thinking about it...making it difficult to go back to work and daily life! We would love to go back to El Pescador and think it would make a great trip with the kids in a couple years when they are old enough to join in some of the activities. We looked at the villas before checking out and they are a good set-up for a family. I'm so glad that you all set-up this trip for us as it made a really special 40th birthday trip for my husband. We will have these memories forever and soon I will put together a nice photo album showing all the fish we caught (a ton of bonefish and 3 tarpon)! Service from both Orvis and El Pescador was truly 5 star. Thank you very much!!"

"Second time I have visited here. If you are just entering salt water fly fishing, this place is for you. The guides spend plenty of time with you teaching and polishing your skills, there are plenty of fish and tons of places to fish. The fishing manager here is very knowledgeable and a people person. Staff is wonderful with very comfortable accommodations. Perfect for couples.
This isn't just for novices..I believe seasoned fishermen will enjoy the wide variety and great expanse of this fishery.

"What a fantastic trip we have just had. It is my second time at El Pescador and this time I had my wife and 15yr old daughter Georgi with me. Even though I was out fishing every other day till 3pm they had a fantastic time, the friendliness and service were both superb. The fly fishing was great and my guide was excellent, (very patient of my bad casts!). It was also nice to get a chance to do some reef fishing for a change as well as catching my first Shark. All round we absolutely loved it and highly recommend it, even for a family that don't all fish."

"This was BY FAR the best vacation I have ever had! The service far surpassed anything I could have hoped for. Lori Ann and Steve were fantastic. As a woman who brought her son to fish, I never felt unsafe or weird and was very grateful for this.
I booked through Orvis because I’ve had a good history with the level of service associated with their recommendations. When we spoke with others at El Pescador who also booked with Orvis, we all agreed that Orvis takes the guess work out of your travel. I don’t remember ever being so relaxed while traveling out of the country. I can’t thank Abby, Jason, Orvis Travel and El Pescador enough. Thank you Orvis Travel and I can’t wait to book with you again!"

"Just returning fron a week at El Pescador lodge in Belize. Wow! Had a fantastic time with great fishing and plenty to do for my wife who is not a fisherman. Both of us enjoyed ourselves so much we are booking a full family (14 persons ) vacation for next year. So much to do and such a great lodge. Staff is supreme and location a delight. Facilities are second to none. You cannot go wrong here."

"I just came back from my second trip to El Pescador and I can't wait to go back. Now I know why they get so much repeat business. For anyone who is new to saltwater fishing, all the way to seasond anglers, El Pescador delivers. You will find the food, service and guides top notch.
I went to El Pescador with two experienced anglers (that joined me for the second time) that had a great adventure challenging and honing their skills. I also had a brand new saltwater angler that now knows why they say, species in the salt, fight like a freight train with fins! He can't wait to come back. As always, we had a great trip to Belize and have El Pescador Lodge to thank for it. If you are looking for the right vacation for you, I can say you need to check with the folks at Orvis Travel to help you plan for that perfect trip. From start to finish, everything was seamless. "My wife and I are novice fly fishermen. This is a great place to learn. The guides are skilled and patient and know where the fish can be found. The resort is marvelous. The villas are luxurious and the food is top notch. The management and help are great and make you feel part of the family. There are pleasant excursions for the non fisher people and great diving and snorkeling. They must be doing something right. Many of the guests were repeaters. We are hooked and will return."
