"Sometimes the middle of nowhere is the best place to be! Nestled in the pines and palms of western Belize, Blancaneaux Lodge was a destination by itself. I loved the simple and delicious food (much from the on-site organic garden), particularly the tiny Guatemaltecqua restaurant. Both the pool and the river provided refreshing dips after excursions, and the hot tub was perfect on a starry night. I highly recommend a treatment at the spa; the Thai massage was wonderful! My cabana was so cute, and the open-air style meant I could hear the waterfall constantly (although it also meant I could hear the chorus of cicadas at 5:30am)! The staff were amazing, and were truly dedicated to providing the best experience. The tours in this package (I did the 4-day option) were great, and my guides were fun and knowledgeable (though some other guests did say they had guides who were less personable). I went in March and it got up to 90 degrees in the sun, but little humidity, and the evenings were perfect. There were some biting bugs in the morning and early afternoon, but later in the day and in the evening, there were none. Maybe the only other thing to be aware of is that the lodge is really isolated, it's 18 miles on a bumpy dirt road, and there is nowhere to buy supplies if you forget anything (though I am sure the staff would figure out how to help). All in all, it was a great trip and it was over far too quickly! Orvis was wonderful in helping to plan for it, very clear and detailed, and Jodi was a big help when I had questions."
