Collapsible Bamboo and Carbon Staff

More and more hikers and fishermen are discovering the benefits of using poles to aid in stabilizing their footing, relieving joint pressure, and increasing stamina while on the trail or in the water. Designed with a bamboo overlay, this featherweight carbon staff collapses down to a very packable 27"; 55" fully extended.

Orvis Bamboo Staff,
January 28, 2013

"Overall very nice staff for the price. Lightweight and well finished. My only complaint is it doesn't fold too compactly, making it a better walking stick than a staff I could use in the water when fishing.
I exchanged for the Orvis Wade staff, which better suited my needs. Although I would recommend this for hiking."

Disappointed,
January 11, 2013

"Bought this with the intention of using it while wading the fast moving currents in the upper Russian River here in Alaska. Upon receiving the staff, I was very disappointed in the quality. The construction quality feels very cheap. I am dubious as to whether or not the staff itself will be able to handle the strength of the water currents where I fish. My worst nightmare would be trekking along the river, having the staff break and then tumbling into the river and snapping my beloved Helios rod into a million pieces......
I was also under the impression that the telescoping extension feature would be automatic, in that you would press a button and the staff would extend. In reality you have to twist the end of the staff near the tip to "unlock" the extending staff and then pull out however much you want to extend and then twist the end again to re-lock the staff in position. Very awkward and poor design. Still pondering a return. I definitely don't think it's worth the asking price, but at the maximum tent sale savings plus the additional 20% off sale price it may be worth it *IF IT FUNCTIONS*. Unfortunately, fishing won't start up here for another 5 months so I'll have to wait and see."

BAMBOO AND CARBON WADING STAFF,
June 6, 2011

"This hiking pole really is not of the quality that I expect from Orvis. The bail does not fit tight and I doubt it will hold up on a hike. I should have heeded the negative reviews by others on this pole before I ordered it."

"I purchased this staff for my husband to use for the support he might need in swifter currents. For the first few days it worked great and then it didn't. It will not tighten so no weight can be supported by the staff. Usually anything by Orvis is a great value but this appears to fall short. I plan on being in Vermont in the next two weeks and will visit."

"This is the lightest and best looking staff I've ever seen or used. Holds up really well, no isues at all. I think the other review refers to a different model as this one is a 3 section staff."

"I received an Orvis"Tele IV" wading stick and "loved it"--for the first few days. The stick appears to be well made and it was not abused when "something happened" and the stick will not stay in the extended position.
I'm off to Montana and would intend to take the disabled stick along. I hope to find an Orvis store (shouldn't be a problem) where maybe-- it can be repaired."
