Great coat,
April 1, 2013
By: dmow
"I previously ordered a Barbour Adventure jacket and found the fit to be a bit tight, even ordering up a size. The Sapper ended up being the fit I was looking for. Looks and fits great. Quilted lining is nice and warm. I've been looking for the right coat for a long time and this is the one."

All time favorite jacket,
February 21, 2013
By: JimN

"This is the sharpest looking and best fitting jacket I have ever bought. The quality is top of the line, and I can't wear it without getting a compliment. I purchased it in black and love the way it looks.....it's very comfortable and is true to size....I have an athletic build but followed the size chart and it was dead on....I can't say enough good things about this jacket.....I'll be a customer for life"

great but sent back,

"So glad for Orvis. I am Barbour fan and Orvis carries full line. Bought the Sapper jacket and had it shipped. I had thought it was a classic waxed cotton jacket but it wasn't. I should have read write up more or asked in store. Anyway I decided to returnit and maybe buy the Wessex. Anyway being able to buy try and return so easily is a huge plus and makes me a totally satisfied Orvis customer. Also my wife loved all her Orvis Christmas presents."

Great all-around jacket,
February 13, 2013
By: jwilli79

"This is a great jacket. I really liked the styling, and am very happy with the quality so far (only had the coat a few weeks). The insulation makes it great for even colder conditions (not that it gets very cold in TN). I was concerned about size based on various reviews of this and other Barbour jackets. I am typically M or L, and went with the L, and fit is great."

A jacket with character ...,
January 30, 2013
By: clifton1
"I was torn between this and the Beaufort. I went with the Sapper (in black) because of the modern, tighter fit (not to mention I think it just looks cooler). Received yesterday and am very pleased. I'm 5'9" with a 41" chest. The medium fits perfectly ... insulation seems very dense which should keep me nice and warm. The only thing that took some getting used to was was the fact that the zipper pull is on the opposite side. No big deal though. The zipper itself works great with a smooth action."

Extraordinary Quality,
January 27, 2013
By: das7b

"I'm 5'8", 150lbs, 38s suit jacket. I purchased the Medium, although I would have liked to try on a small - just to see if there would have been a big difference in size. The Medium seems to fit well in the shoulders and the arm length is perfect. It seems just a tiny bit boxy, but nothing like swimming in the Bedale.
I wear the jacket over a suit when battling the mean streets of downtown Atlanta in the winter. It can get bitter cold and windy here (believe it or not) with temps right at freezing (NE guys, be nice). I've noticed no wind chill and have been perfectly comfortable hoofing about town. On the weekends I'll wear it with a sweater, again just right. I imagine I'll be able to wear the Sapper into spring with t-shirts and the like.
I've had it about a month now. The craftsmanship is top notch - zippers are fluid, buttons easy to find and snap with two fingers, collars and cuffs have comfortable, soft corduroy touches. The quilted lining makes it easy to put on and adds extra warmth but not the puffer bulk.
I would highly recommend the Sapper. Like Allen-Edmonds, Barbour now has a dedicated customer."

Versatile jacket for 3 seasons,
January 23, 2013
By: Salex
"I recently ordered this product for my husband who owns a different Barbour jacket in olive green. He is 6"1 and 200lbs. He usually wears a size L for all his t-shirts and sweaters. His previous Barbour jacket was in a size XL (I believe this jacket was a slimmer cut) but after talking to an online chat staff we decided on a L size for the Sapper. His chest dimensions are 46" around and the size L with a 50" chest measurement was comfortable enough to wear with a thick sweater and move around all day. It is alot warmer than the usual waxed jackets as it has some padded insulation. A word of caution is that the black waxed material will pick up alot of lint and hair! We have three dogs so this is not something to wear when spending time with you dogs! Apart from this one weak ess(?) this is a great jacket both for casual attire and semiformal work attire. My husband is in LOVE with it. Orvis has great service. They were extremely helpful when helping me choose a size online, and the product arrived nicely packaged in pristine condition. Thank you Orvis!"

First Barbour Coat,
January 14, 2013
By: ObiWan

"Great coat - everything I would have hoped for from Orvis and Barbour. I am 6'1"; 215 lbs. and the XL fits perfectly. I would eliminate the stowaway hood for a better fit on the collar, but it's a preference, not a problem. I'm looking forward to many years of use as my "go-to" daily coat."

good quality, sizing runs large,

By: pleinairepainter

"Liked the quality and construction of the coat as well as the more fitted design. Weight is good for winter weather. However, I am 5'9" and 180 pounds. While I normally wear large, this coat ran rather large and I found I had to return it for a medium."

A great coat,
January 8, 2013
By: Oaks3
"The sapper is a great looking/wearing coat. It feels like a well broken-in coat at the first wearing. The wax treating gives it a nice vintage look also. The quilted lining stands up to colder temps well if worn with an extra layer or two, but not too well on its own. The Orvis/Barbour sizing is correct in that if you order your regular size it will be a close fit. Order the next size up if you like a roomier coat. The hood is a thin nylon type material that folds neatly into the collar. Adjustable wrist straps and bi-swing back help with fit and movement. This is a nice understated military style coat."

Great Jacket-Fits large,

"This is a beautiful Barbour jacket. A little more unique than the ones you commonly see on people.
The jacket says a slimmer fit, but still runs large. I would recommend sizing down

The perfect jacket,
December 28, 2012
By: barbourfan
from Salt Lake City, UT
"I've always loved the way Barbour coats looked. They age gracefully and they look classy. But when Barbour swtiched to thornproof wax, it just stunk and I couldn't stand to wear the Barbour coats because it left a horrible oder in all my clothing. Then a few years ago, they brought back the sylkoil wax which doesn't smell as bad and (to me) is tolerable. But I've always thought the classic Barbour coats with no insulation really wasn't worth the investment. Why buy a coat to buy another insulation lining or so I thought. Then this sapper jacket came along. It has insulation. It looks classic. And it has the sylkoil waxing. Everything I wanted in a Barbour came together on this coat. I wear a 42R suit size and the large fits me perfectly. I can wear it with just a t-shirt and I can wear it over a thick sweater with no problems. Barbour coats are an investment for life. This will be the last coat you will need to purchase."

"I ordered the large barbour sapper jacket. the jacket was small and short, It should have been a medium.I think there should be a tall section in your catalog to compensate for just these problems that seem to happen a lot with people over 6ft. tall."

"I have owned run of the mill wax jackets before but this jacket from Barbour is a revelation. The materials, construction and workmanship are superb and the fit is excellent. It is lighter than previous wax jackets I have owned but it is warm even in frigid British Columbia."

Nice jacket,
December 12, 2012
By: JohnfromBeverly

"I was looking for a waterproof field jacket, and wanted to avoid the "look" of most modern GoreTex coats. I wear a 42 suit jacket, and found the large a little big for my liking. I returned the jacket for a medium, which provided a more streamline fit. The jacket is warm, and repels the elements well. The Sapper has a more fitted cut than the standard Barbour jacket, and has the look of an old army field jacket. My recommendation would be to order a size down if you want to take advantage of that fitted cut."
