Flatwing flies are versions of the Deceiver, but instead of the hackle feathers being tied side by side to form the tail and profile, the hackle feather is tied on flat on top. These flies provide an interesting difference in the Deceiver profile that has proven itself over the past few years to be very productive. Colors, Yellow. Sizes 2, 2/0. Length 3½ 4¼".

"I was turned onto the fly when fishing the namesake flats, but has proved a great fly on LI sound stripping blind or casting to rising fish on sod banks. The fly also works well fishing inlet/outlets and salt rivers on the swing. Smaller size early in the season, then even smaller fish will hit the larger size later in the season. Smaller size also works for Albies in the Fall.
The fly tyer changed the hook to a lighter, brighter wire. It's easier to cast, but not as easy to sharpen."
