"This is the second one of these Field Trialer hats I've bought because I love the first one and wanted a backup in case Orvis discontinued them. Top quality, well made and looks and feels great, and not a cheap import. This hat is made in the USA of top quality wool. Buy one and help me bring back hats for men. "I actually recommend a friend buy this hat before I bit the bullet and bought one myself.

Orvis is delivering a quality hat at a nice price. The hat is well put together and well proportioned.

I purchased a large to fit my 7-3/8 head and it fits nicely.

It is very comfortable right out of the box."

Sizing issue,

"Nice hat, but didn't fit. i followed the sizing directions, which showed the proper size for me was Medium. The hat was too big and rested loosely on my ears. Too bad they didn't make a Small sized hat. It really had the quality that I"m used to from Orvis."

"Gave this hat to my new brother in-law who lives on a small Ranch in Nevada. He loves it and it looks very dashing on him. The only issue is it ran a tad large. He put something inside the brim and now it fits perfectly. Great buy, great price."

"Bought this hat at the Orvis store in Bath, UK. As a Brit we do not wear hats as much as in the USA, but we should. This hat has kept me warm on cold days, attracts great comment, and always looks good. Rolls up tight so will be taking it on my trip to Nevada & Colorado in 2013. PS why can we only get Malpai shirts in Denim or White now? Don't tell us they are being de-listed !"

"I love the hat. The color, look are perfect. I did have an issue with the sizing. I have a size 7 (22") head. I bought the Medium and it was too big. I called and they did not offer a smaller size. After consideration I had my wife sew a 1 1/2" strip to put inside the band. Hat fits now and I love it."

"I was a little nervous about buying a hat based on a 2-D image, with no opportunity to try it on or have a custom fitting done. I was pleasantly surprised, however, at the excellent fit and superb comfort right out of the box. During my first afternoon in the sun there was some mild itching on my shaved scalp initially, but it passed within the hour and I was cool and comfortable the rest of the day. Oh, and it looks great! I will definitely purchase my next hat from Orvis."

Sizing issues,

"Ordered this hat and it seems to be of solid quality and general looks, but am returning it due to sizing issues. Using the charts and other hats I've owned I'm an XL, but it is way too large for me. The description doesn't give a brim size, and for me that was also an issue. My taste is a 2 1/2" max, and its 2 3/4". That info would have saved me some shipping costs. I've never ordered a hat on line before, and while have a general aversion to stores, think it best to do it "live" for hats in the future. Live and learn."

"I have always been a baseball cap guy. I found this hat for a reasonable price and decided to buy it. I have found that this is a comfortable hat that is ready to tackle all the hard work that you can dish out to it. It is NOT a summer hat, as it is wool. I like that it is crushable and it will take the abuse I have dished out to it. Comfort, quality and good price. Now my baseball caps sit in the closet."

It is a very classy looking hat. In other words the finishing is meticulously thorough. It's dressy, but at the same time it inspires a sense of adventure. I love it.

"I ordered this hat according to the sizing chart on the Orvis website but that resulted in a hat that was way too big. The replacement hat (a size smaller) fits well. The leather band on the hat I'm keeping is a bit rough on the front upper edge but I'm going to trim the edge and re-dye it myself rather than go through another return. The quality of the felt is good. The crushable feature in also a plus. The hat has a comfortable band but it is not lined. All in all a good basic hat. Though it's not perfect, I'm happy with the value."
