"The Shooting Star rods are exceptionally good, I have all of them and they work very hard with no complaints and no breakages. They are simply made and simply the best. You will find them great value and the rods that you reach for as you grab your gear."

"I got a SS 137-4 to replace the 12 1/2 foot, 7wt TL that I lost the tip of and Orvis could not replace it. Let me be frank, the SS 137 is a very nice rod, but I would trade it for another 12 1/2 TL in a heartbeat. Here's why - the TL responded amazingly to an overpowered Skagit cast. My posse and I termed it the slingshot. The TL was heavier (even though shorter) than the SS, but it simply threw line better - and that's what spey is all about. Don't get me wrong here - the SS is good, I am simply saying, the TL was better. Orvis should consider bringing the TLs back. Much like the superfines, the TLs may be older technology, but they perfectly suited a certain niche."

Great light weight spey rod,
September 25, 2007
By: bigbass
"I wanted a light spey rod with a little more length than the 12-footers to help get more distance on the traditional spey casts. It was also important to stay with a relatively light-weight line. With the 137-4 I can make mid eighty foot spey casts and still have a rod that is not unwieldly when I want to make an even longer overhand cast. The rod has a nice crisp action that dependably makes the arrow-pointed loop that is so desireable. This season I have taken several really nice Atlantic salmon on this rod and had the pleasure of fighting them on what felt like light tackle."
