Barbour® Bedale Jacket
This is the gold standard of Barbour coats. Classic shorter length hunting, riding or shooting coat in medium weight 6-oz thornproof waxed cotton. Takes a zip-in liner. Corduroy collar studded to accept the optional hood. Two large bellows pockets on the front with handwarmer pockets. Two studded side vents in the back. Lined in Barbour tartan. 100% waxed cotton. Cold sponge. No soap. Imported.Barbour classic fit in sizes 34-52. About 32" long in size 42. See size chart for details.

"The jacket is a superior product. But the zipper has "issues". Let me explain: it is made out of brass, which is great. It is a metal to metal hook up, which is good in theory, but needs some lubrication to get it to function properly. I use a very fine bicycle oil on the moving parts to get them familiar with each other. I had to return my first jacket due to a misaligned zipper. My Outback jacket has a solid brass YKK zipper. It is a happy zipper. Perhaps you should include a packet of lubrication in this product. I got this sucker working good now, and use it to protect me from the cold in winter/Connecticut. Get it together!"

"I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband. He already owns one of these jackets (he has been a Barbour coat wearer since I met him over 20 years ago), but I got this as a replacement as he tends to wear out the cuff on his Barbour jackets before the rest of the coat has aged.
Love this jacket...he was happy!"

"Since I bought mine for the same reasons pretty much every one else did, I will attempt to provide sizing info.
I normally wear an Orvis 'L' and either a 44 or 45 jacket otherwise. I went to the local store and tried both a 44 and 46 Bedale and Beufort jacket before taking a 46 Bedale. I wore a moderate weigh polypro sweater for the fitting.
I found the 44 would fit, but the 46 provided a bit more movement room. In a 44-46 I found no difference in length between the Beufort and Bedale, but there might be an inch in other sizes.
I am 6'1'' and sometime wear a Long, sometimes not. I did not get a Long, and did not find the sleeves short the way others have described.
The differences between the two come down to an internal game pocket in the Beufort, and the cuffs. The Beufort has internal velcro, the Bedale internal knit. Otherwise you could look at both and not be able to tell them apart."

"Seems well made and warm. I like everything about it, except the zipper. The zipper is cumbersome, Also, there's no material behind the it which causes it to rub and fray the clothes under it.
I think the liner should be included given the price."

"I love this jacket, it is extremely functional and at the same time it looks great in so many situations. I wear it to outdoor events and then out on the town that same night! However, I just wish the fit was a bit more 'fitted' Barbour does not offer there products in a 'long' so as a taller slender guy I had to bump up to the 42 which fits nice, but I wish the chest size jump was not so great. Just feels like too much fabric is gained between the two sizes. (being picky New Yorker)"

"I wanted a "go to" jacket for the moment, something that would be 1) minimal, 2) light enough for travel, and 3) durable enough for random adventures. Instead of traveling with 5 different jackets I wanted one. This jacket fits the need. If i had one complaint it would be that i have to buy the liner separately, but even that is such a well made product that i don't really mind."

"I don't have much to add to the other reviews here, it's an excellent looking jacket - functional and well made. If you are considering it, and prefer your clothing fitted, size down at least one notch. I initially ordered a 38 (my suit size), and was absolutely swimming in it. I must applaud the return policy at Orvis here, as I had no issues sending it back. That said, I was mistakenly sent a 34 instead of a 36 at that time, which I'm actually thankful for! It fits perfect now, with space to layer underneath. So my best advice is going down at least 1 size if you're fit, unless you prefer a baggier style.
I've already had it out in the cold and the rain, and it did a great job keeping me warm and dry. I think I'll require a liner or some layers if I plan to wear this in the winter months, though."

"I've had a Beaufort myself for a few years and I love it, so I picked up a Bedale for my dad. The shorter model has worked well for him since he spends good part of his working day driving.
Barbour "coats" are not particluarly warm, so layer up or pick up an insert. They're obviously perfect for rain, but also nice for heavy, wet snow.
These are great jackets and well worth the steep price. I would highly recommend."

"Although I returned the Men's version of the Barbour Bedale jacket, I found the women's size of the same jacket at another store and it fits perfectly. I wish that Orvis would carry more Barbour Women's sizes and not recommend that a men's size will do the trick. This is my second Barbour jacket (first is a women's size) but being a size 6 makes getting a men's size a stretch. No matter how you slice it the arms will never fit for a women. I love the jacket and bought it because it was in Navy and that you could buy a optional hood for the jacket. Umbrella's are not an option for me. I purchased the hood from Orvis and it is perfect. I can't wait to wear the jacket with hood. I have bought many things at Orvis and hope you consider to expand your women's selection."

"My wife initially introduced me to Barbours because she had a very old Bedale jacket in brown that she bought many, many years ago from Orvis.
We decided to get the whole family outfitted so I went in to get myself a Bedale while we got my sister-in-law one too.
All the women ended up buying Bedale jackets because of their comfortable button side-vents that make horse riding possible in this jacket.
For the men (myself and my brother in law) the Bedale looked great but was too short. I ended up getting a Border jacket because I'm very tall, my brother in law got a Beufort because he is about 5'11".
How are they holding up? The new barbour jackets are all in good order and the one my wife has had for years has been repaired many, many times. You can hardly see the repairs because every year we send it back to Barbour for rewaxing at which time they add a panel to the sleeves or conceal the wear holes using some method.
Definitely a "lifetime" purchase."

"I purchased the Barbour Bedale jacket for my husband 2 weeks ago. Although it is well-made, the zipper does not zip up all the time on the first try. In fact, it takes at least 5 or more tries and by that time, we are thoroughly frustrated. I am re-thinking my purchase of this product. The sales person assured me that the zipper requires "breaking - in" time!"

"This is, hands down the most amazing, classic, functional and well-crafted item your closet can possibly hold. To be honest I pull the coat out of storage during the sweltering summer months in simple anticipation of wearing it again. I bought my Bedale a little over a year ago and it's staggering the impact a beautifully understated jacket can have on your life. It is in my opinion the best coat Barbour makes. Despite its simple appearance the jacket has an extremely flattering cut for such a timeless classic. In the year since my purchase the garment has done a lot of traveling and I'm very impressed how well the shape has held. Despite all the wear and tear I've subjected the poor thing too, the jacket still looks brand new. It is truly something I look forward to wearing years and years from now. I love this coat. Buy it, trust me."
