Nice old-fashioned warmth,

"This vest is melton, the stuff of Navy pea coats for many decades. Don't look for 21st century fibers or detailing. It's basic but effectively warm and homey. it will keep your upper body warm either as a layer under a wind-breaker or by itself on Spring days when there's just a nip still in the air. I only wish it had an interior pocket so I could give it 5 stars. But because it has no lining, such a pocket seems to have been too hard to construct."

"This vest is tailored very well and will make you proud to wear it because it is so stylish. The vest is warm and extremely functional. I am picky about how clothing like this item fit and look and would definitely recommend this vest."

Great Looking Vest,
January 28, 2013
By: Deeerhound

"This is a warm, functional, exceptionally handsome vest. There was a problem with sizing. I'm a little over 6' tall and wear a 44 long suit. I initially ordered the extra large version of this vest. It was too big in every dimension: the shoulders extended beyond where mine end; the body was too full, even when wearing my heaviest wool sweaters. So...I liked the basic idea of this vest well enough to order one size down. The good news is that the Large size fits very well, whether worn with a shirt or sweater. There is no bad news."

High-quality paradox,
January 16, 2013
By: LandRover

"This vest is made of superb material but I had to return it for a refund. Main problem is sizing: it was definitely not a normal Orvis Medium (my usual size) and was too snug over anything more than a summer shirt. As a substantial outer garment it should have a bit of leeway to fit over a heavy shirt or light sweater. Second, the double zipper is hard to operate, not because it is 'backwards' to the North American norm but because the mechanism is a bit crude. Lastly, the dome snaps that close the wind flap and pocket flaps are a little smaller than one would expect and are hard to close because the wool is thick and there is no resistance behind to force the connection. Too bad, because it is very good Melton and the main pockets would be most useful."

High quality with a couple glitches,
November 30, 2012

"Very high quality and substantial wool. It does have a lining of sorts which is a wool blend that is fused in some manner to the outer shell, so expect no fill or traditional insulation. The zipper will test your dexterity with the usual challenge that comes with a two way pull compounded by a left side attachment (British, I guess). Chest on a size large is 49" and same at the waist, but the medium drops down substantially to, I believe, 45.5". I'm in the middle at 180 lb, and had to go with a large, which fits very generously. Collar is a stand up that is wool faced and not lined, so a little itch. Also note the only hand warmers are placed high, well above the bellows pockets and there are no interior pockets. It's a very nice high quality vest, but not really an A+ design with some of these issues. Hope this helps."
