Now own 6 Helios,
March 22, 2015

"I first tried a Helios several years ago floating the Madison River. My friend (piloting the boat) had me try his rod. I immediately had mixed feelings - specifically, I was thrilled with the power and line control but upset that I now needed to buy another rod. I should have wished for only one rod - I now own six Helios rods - freshwater 3, 4, & 5, saltwater 7, 8. & 9. All rods tip flex all 9' 4piece.
The 3wt is a dream on spring creeks, the 5wt is great from the boat, float tubing, and massive wind days. The 4wt is probably the best rod you will ever cast.
On saltwater the 9wt is the best permit rod in the boat, the 8wt will handle permit and powers into the wind on those white cap days. The 7wt is probably the best bonefish rod you will ever handle and don't worry it double hauls into the wind like a rocket but feels like a trout rod.
I know - this review sounds like I work for Orvis - not so just telling you these rads are as good as advertised.

Sweet 4-weight,

"I get to cast a lot of rods -- I love the experience of casting a fly line -- and bought the 4-wt as a result of the casting and fishing pleasure provided by the 5-wt. I like to pair it with the new CFO II spun up with a Hydros 3-D WF4F line. The 4-wt and 5-wt combined can cover a lot of fresh-water fishing. And, as they say, if you can do it with a 4-weight, do it with a 4-weight. (Of course, I'm also planning to add the 8-wt.... It's an addiction.)"

Not too Fast,

"Some reviews have pegged the tip flex 9 footer as overly fast. I disagree. It is nearly perfect. It performs well at all distances for a 4wt. I was able to easily push it out to 70 yards with ease. Although it performed best at 50 or less yards (it s not a five weight), it did it all with little effort. This is a rod you can cast all day and love every minute. Coupled with an Orvis Access mid-arbor II, the rod and reel weigh less than 7 ounces. I was a died in the wool Sage/Winston guy up to now but this rod is the real deal!"

Excellent Choice!!!!!,

"I have been using this rod for the past year and I have to say that it has met every expectation that I could have.
I fish a wide diversity of fisheries from the swift deep pools of the Kern River to gin clear waters of the Green River and this rod continues to deliver.
It's lightweight and well balanced which makes it a phenomenal choice when conditions call for a long day of double hauled precision casting. It also makes a great choice for when deep pool nymphing is a must.
It also has a great backbone for those broad backed bows that scream out line and sensitive enough to enjoy the fight from a 10' brook.
Overall: It is a great rod and you will NEVER find a company with better customer service!!!!"
