Wood Door Frame Dog Gate

This gate allows you to move easily from room to room while containing your dog. Solid wood construction blends tastefully with your home; adjustable friction-fit mounting ensures that the gate and your dog stay securely put. Rubber stoppers save your walls and trim from marking. No hardware or drilling required. Tall gate (35"H) has a door that allows people and dogs to pass easily. It adjusts from 28" to 36" wide. Wide gate (35"H) is similar to the tall gate and fits doorway or hallway opening widths of 35"-37", 47"-49", and 59"-61". Distance between spindles of tall and wide gates is 1½". All models feature a latched handle. Not for use at the top of stairs. Dog gates in walnut (tall, wide), white (tall only).

Not What I'd Hoped For,
May 18, 2013
By: Topeka
from KS
"First let me say that I researched this product as carefully as I could, given that the Orvis web site was, at most, permitting me to see 4 favorable reviews of the existing 79. I was looking for a gate that could accommodate the varying widths of doorways in my house from 28” to 36”. This one seemed to fit that criterion and to be less likely to be pushed aside or overturned than the free-standing gates.
I can’t complain about the speed of delivery; it was here in 24 hours via standard shipping.
The Orvis web site and catalog describe the tall version of this gate as 35” high and 28”-36” wide. I wanted to put the gate in a 36 inch wide doorway initially, so imagine my alarm when the box gave the width as 28.3 – 35.8 inches! I was relieved when I could make it fit my 36 inch doorway; whether it will fit my 28 inch doorways remains to be seen. In no universe is this gate 35 inches tall. The sides are 30 inches high and the main gate is 32.5 inches at its tallest point. The latching mechanism sits above with a button as its tallest point. The top of the button is only 34.5 inches high. In other words, 80% of the gate is 32 inches or lower. Customers need accurate measurements in order to know whether the gate can be expected to contain athletic cats or dogs!
I had hoped for a gate that could easily be moved from one doorway to another, but that will not be this gate. If you want to insert the gate into any opening wider than 29.5”, you’ll need to use the enclosed extenders on one or both sides of the gate. There are some ingenious aspects to these extenders but they require a lot of fiddling. Worse, they just shove in to the sides of the main gate, so that during installation or transport they tend to fall out (think gouged walls and floors in addition to the general hassle). I’ll have to continue using my $40 plastic baby gate to make temporary barriers here and there when I leave the house; quick, simple, and cheap; just not easy to walk through.
Assembly directions were barely adequate; definitely room for improvement."

It is the best gate, but...,

"I think this is a very good looking high-quality gate. In fact, I have two of them. BUT, one of my Labs has mastered the art of smacking the handle on top and opening the gate with one paw. It's really quite remarkable -- she nails it almost every time (which is several times a day)"

Wooden Dog Gate,
April 9, 2013
By: Anonymous
from Peoria, AZ
"We liked the first one so much, we ordered a 2nd one! So much better than the piece of plywood we were using to gate in our puppy....and easier to use than the kind you use for toddlers. It's goodlooking and you can open and close it with one hand. The only drawback -- there is a fixed piece of wood that runs along the bottom of the gate that you have to step over when going in and out."

Great gate,

"Great gate, holds in our lab/german shepherd cross in the kitchen when we need to have items delivered etc.
Nice wooden frame - Looks good and worth the extra in wood rather than metal at the pet shop. Handle looks a bit plasticky though - it would have been nicer in chrome or metal for the price."

Great product,
March 6, 2013

"I have been searching for a gate to keep my crazy crawling/walking infant in a safe area. The trick was that my 5 year old had to be able to work the gate. So many of the kid's gates out there are horribly difficult to operate even for adults. Plus the quality of these gates is marginal.
I am happy to say that we found our solution through Orivs with this pet gate. I highly reccomend it. Strong construction, easy to assemble and install. Had it up in 5 minutes out of the box."

"This gate looks great (matches our wood floors), and functions exactly how we want it. It was easy to install and seems fairly sturdy, as well.
It will soon be too short for our German Shepherd puppy, but for now it definitely serve its purpose."

Too Much Assembly,
February 5, 2013
By: Anonymous
from Minneapolis, MN
"I was disappointed when this gate arrived. It required assembly and the ad description didn't make this clear. It's instructions were minimalistic and the drawings could have been more clear as well. I very much like the iron gate available from Orvis that simply reverse screws its suction cups against the door frame. However, these reverse screws might mar the door frame. I bought this gate because I thought the wood color might blend in with our oak wood better, but, if it weren't so much trouble to return it (packing the heavy box, etc.,) I would send it back."

"I needed something to keep 2 Yorkies out of our main hallway. We have the 3 panel zig zag wooden gate BUT they can use their nose and move it out of the way, thus, the need for something more permanent that they could not open. Easy to assembly. Looks nice. Glad we purchased it!"

Great gate!,

By: ShellyJ
from Wynnewood, Pa
"With a new puppy, two older dogs, and a busy house with lots of foot traffic, I needed a gate that could contain the dogs but was easy to operate for the adults and kids coming and going. This gate has saved my sanity- it is sturdy, easy to operate with one hand, and allows everyone to pass through without hassle while keeping the dogs put. I am buying an additional one!!"

Excellent Gate,

By: Leahpup

"We bought two for our home. Love the fact that it's pressure-mounted and you don't have to drill holes in the walls. Easy to operate and looks great. BUT: These gates are NOT good for puppies who chew. We came home from work one day and our 5-month old puppy had chewed the spindles to bits. Yikes."
