Barbour® Waxed Cotton Hood
A snap-on hood to pair with Barbour's classic waxed cotton jacket. The jacket hood has a drawcord with toggles to keep out wind and rain. Waxed cotton jacket hood in navy (lined in Dress Tartan), sage (lined in Ancient Tartan), black (lined in Modern Tartan). One size. Specially treated 100% waxed cotton shell. Lining: 100% cotton. Cold sponge, no soap. Imported.

"The Barbour quality is evident in the manufacture of the hood. The natural environment for a Barbour jacket requires a hood and it serves this purpose well. I assessed the only problem as the weakness of the snaps to keep the hood attached to the jacket when it is not on the wearers head. Even some small strips of velcro or additional snaps would probably be helpful."

"The hood is great but there are some flaws in the design.
The snap-ons can easily be accidentally grabbed and the hood ceases to be functional.
There is some sort of flex-wire that is used on the hoods rim, not sure if that was actually necessary and keeps me thinking that I am Benjamin Franklin in the thunderstorm.
Because of these I am giving the product 4 stars, The hood , like the liner needs to be zippered, the rigid wire , replaced with a rigid rope like or even a plastic type loop.
Barbour needs to rethink this aspect.
Otherwise, 100% waterproof and well made, this product is Made in Tunisia, but again well made and up to Barbour quality standards"

"I purchased this hood with some trepidation after reading about 'issues' with colour etc. However, I am absolutely thrilled that mine matched my 5-year-old jacket (Sage colour) almost perfectly. The "newness" of the wax coating gives it a slightly different appearance but I think that will dissipate with time and exposure to sunlight and the elements. Another nice feature of this hood is that it has a flexible, enclosed wire that allows you to shape the hood around your face in a storm, or lay flat when not in use.
This was my first purchase from Orvis and I was absolutely delighted with their service – rapid, efficient delivery to Canada, excellent communication, and no hidden charges. Product was exactly as shown. I would highly recommend this item."

"I read the other reviews where people had problems with colors and snaps. I figured I would give it a try.
My hood matches my jacket in color perfectly. Maybe because the jacket was purchased only a few weeks ago. The snaps are nice and tight. The hood is not going to be coming off by accident. I am really happy that I purchased the hood to go with my Barbour jacket."

"Product arrived next day and with no hassle.
I remember my Barbour jacket having to be extensively altered as I am longer than I am wide.
This hood will also need to be altered because it will not stay attached.
When I try to straighten my jacket collar or raise the hood, it becomes detached.
I find myself having to take the jacket off in silly conditions to reattach the hood. This hood will be lost if it snags on a tree branch or is caught in a gale. At best it will flap around ungainly on two studs.
Until I find a solution I lack confidence in this product."

"Barbour makes a nice product but doesn't always think things through. The hood I bought recently, snaps to the back of the collar. The snaps do not hold that well. I am concerned about losing the hood by getting it caught on something on a coat rack. When I first attached it, it came off twice just trying to put it on. Back to the drawing board?"

"Just received the waxed cotton hood, and everything seemed perfect until I attached it to the jacket.
The material seems to be very different, the hood is way more shiny than the jacket.....not sure where it went wrong, but it doesn't match with the jacket at all. The color and the inside lining match, but not the material itself. I made sure that I ordered the right one, and I bought it to use on my cruise to alaska this weekend, and now I can't. Very disappointed."

"Ordered the hood as I'm often out in the elements. This hood has a reinforced front and snaps on and off promptly. I'm not too keen on the big, visible Barbour label on the hood or the white name tag. I feel a bit like an ad exec's kindergartener. Still, a solid workable hood that does the job."
