The Giant Stonefly can get as big as 40mm long and they begin their migration from the bottom of the river long before they actually come out on the banks to hatch. This movement to the banks creates a real opportunity for feeding trout and this big stonefly fly pattern is perfect for imitating these nymphs. Fish this stonefly as if it were moving along the bottom with very short strips. In black, brown. Sizes: 8, 10.

Review 2 for Bead Head Giant Stone
High water offering,
June 9, 2014
from Pacific Northwest
"This Orvis Giant Stone fly is the best I have seen to imitate the large larval stoneflies of the streams and rivers of the Western trout waters. You can use these subsurface nymphs year round because it takes 2 years for the stonefly to mature and become an adult. But I especially like this fly for high water conditions of late winter and spring. Tie one on and then add a trailing bead head copper John fly as a trailer. This combo catches trout."
