Nice but expected a little better,

"The good:
1] Great packaging. Jacket arrived in a nice Orvis garment bag with thick hanger. Nice little extras.
2} Jacket looks great, crisp and stiff like a brand new dollar bill. It will need broken in but it is already conforming to my body after one hour.
3} It's actually not an Orvis branded jacket. It's made by an Iconic American company which I figured out prior to ordering.
4} Fit is great. I disagree with other reviewers about ordering a size up. If you are a fit individual, I recommend ordering your normal size. I am 5' 8", 170 lbs, 33" waist and wear a 40R suit coat. The medium fits me perfect and I have several other jackets in large size. You want this to fit snug like a tailored suit coat. Reviews from the actual manufacturers website almost all recommended sticking with your normal size or even going down one. It is supposed to fit snug and will loosen up over time.
The mediocre:
1) I expected a little better workmanship. For one thing, when the jacket is zipped, the left side at the bottom sits about 1/4" lower than the right. Never had this on any other jacket I've ever owned and I don't see any difference in workmanship from better imports.
2} The leather seems of good quality but feels a little thin to me. I've owned a Pakistani made Columbia leather that was twice as substantial. However, the leather itself could have been a cheaper hide. That jacket was impeccably made though.
3} I try to buy American when I can afford it or at least from another country that pays fair wages. Is it worth twice as much as an imported designer label leather? Not too sure but time will tell.
I am overall happy with the jacket and expect it to last for a decade or more. Makes me feel good to have a made in USA garment. 1st class service from Orvis."

Very Good Deal on a Very Good Leather Jacket!,
May 2, 2014

"I received my cowhide casual racing jacket within a couple weeks of ordering it. It was better than expected. It fit perfectly. (For this jacket, order a size bigger than you usually order unless you like a tight fit. I read that in another review, so that's what I did, and it's perfect.) The quality is amazing. The leather is top-grade, and the style is perfect for what I need. I am replacing a lambskin jacket that looks good, but is flimsy. I have had to repair a couple rips. This one is very nice looking, feels great, and wears very well, thanks to the cowhide. It's perfect for me."

Not What I'm After,
February 3, 2014
By: Trilogy

"I am looking for a 3-season lightweight leather jacket. I wasn't sure about this one but thought I'd give it a try since there seem to be so few available.
The leather was quite a bit heavier and the finish had more shine than I'm after so it was returned.
Just FYI, this jacket runs a size or so smaller than the other Orvis leather jackets I've tried. I'd suggest ordering a size larger than you might otherwise."
