Muir Woods Fur-Felt Hat
Our fedora offers much more than just classic looks—it's crafted in the USA from fine rabbit-fur felt that ensures years' worth of faithful service and protection from the elements. Oiled-Nubuck-leather hatband with antiqued-brass buckle. Full-grain-leather sweatband. Genuine silk lining with vintage crossed-rods Orvis logo. Fur felt fedora in olive. 2¾" brim tapers to 2½" on the sides. 4" crown. Rabbit-fur felt, silk, and leather. Brush clean. Made in USA.Sizes: M(7-7⅛), L(7¼-7⅜), XL(7½-7⅝), XXL(7¾-7⅞).

"My Grand Father owned a Hat Shop all Good or Great Quality Hats, Fur And Beaver Felt were top items. Leather Sweat Band and Silk Lined All !
The tear drop or C Crown adds a bit of work to the Finish and Cost. So I've seen and tried on a lot of hats, and this is a keeper. Good color, good finish. This is a shaped hat not a roll-up, it is soft and flexes just enough to suit the
style. Sizing is consistent with the
general size spreads."

"Looks and is made well, but runs big.
I even measured my head before ordering. I usually wear L-XL size, but this one in Large was too big.
Plus you will loose shipping charge if you send it back. I'm out $24 just to find out it didn't fit. Plus I think it was returned before. They were out of the Large size, then one became available, and was gone again after I ordered it. Had a previous Orvis hat and I liked it. Will probably buy another one of those."

"The Orvis Muir Woods hat is one of the most well-made and attractive items sold by the company. It is a masterpiece of the lost art of hat production. The fur felt quality is superb and the graceful curve of the brim, slightly down in front and back lends a 1940's aire to it. Basically
a Western dress fedora, the rustic leather band and weathered brass buckle informalizes it for comfortable use anywhere in all seasons.
This city has several hat shops, one of which immediately attracted both propietor's and clients' interest and admiration when I walked in with this item."

"This was a birthday present to a person (me) who never wears a hat or gloves in the winter. Now I do! It is very comfortable, fit is perfect. And I have gotten a lot of very positive comments of how it makes me look."

"I ordered this hat as it looks like the nicest hat offered at Orvis. It probably is....
I found the hat to be very stiff - shaped slightly differently than my head with little to no give - so a poor fit for me. I don't really want to spend additional monies to have the hat reshaped. So it is going back.
I ordered a large based upon recommendations found here on sizing - the large was equivalent to a 7-3/8 to 7-1/2.
Hope this helps someone."

"This is a great hat. It is firm and comfortable. The picture represents it well.
Many have commented on the size. I would agree it runs large. I have many hats that are either 7 3/8 or 7 1/2. Most of the hats I own in 7 3/8 are a bit snug and I have to stretch them just a bit from time to time. For this hat, the "L" is listed at 7 1/4 to 7 3/8, so even with the benefit of the other reviews I was concerned that a Large would be to small. Well, the other reviewers were right. It is actually just a little loose. Not too loose to be a problem though. As it breaks in, it will shrink a bit to fit perfectly. However, if I was a 7 1/4, I would have a lot of extra room to deal with. My thanks to the other reviewers! I love the hat."

"wonderful hat. i do not understand at this price point why it is only offered in S, M, and L. iI wear a 7 1/4 and was told I needed the L. It was too big. Ordered the M and with a little stretching it fits.
Customer Service refused to provide overnight shipping on the replacement even though I had paid for it on the initial purchase."

"Super hat - well packaged to prevent any crushing / damage in shipment. However, either the size of the hat has slightly grown or I need to consider ordering the next hat size up - the fit was a bit "snug".

"I ordered this hat and I took a chance in sizing and I found it to be a very good fit.
The Hat itself is made of a very nice felt, i.e. unblemished.
I intend to use this hat for both general use and when fly fishing.
Overall, I can quite happily state that this is a extremely nice hat."

"I received the hat and was very impressed with the quality. The 3 stars are due to the description and sizing.
The brim is described as 23/4" and 21/2" at the sides. It's actually 3" all around. It doesn't seem much but it is the difference between a Fedora and a cowboy hat.
As to the sizing, I have 2 packable Orvis woolen hats in XL and they are a perfect fit; this hat covers my ears!
Orvis please bring out a fur felt fedora in this quality.
P.S. I'd love to be a cowboy but not in Stockport."

the Muir Woods Fur Felt Hat.
It's a beauty. To me, it has a western flavour to it. I like that.
It is made in the U.S.A. Of course, my hat is brand new and looks it.
Where I live, we have rain, sleet,
sun, wind and snow.
Occasionally, all on the same day. I intend to wear this hat in all of those conditions. I'll work it thru all four seasons. By then, my hat won't look new- it will just look like it's been thru some adventures with me.
I'll update this report one year from now.

"This is a very nice hat, though I do think it is a bit overpriced. The hat sizes are a bit larger than noted so be warned when ordering, you may have to compare a couple of sizes before choosing one. I normally wear a large so I ordered a large. I found out that the large was to big and ordered a medium. Well the medium was to small?! I decided to stay with the medium and have it slightly stretched. NO PROBLEM!! the hat is perfect now, and Orvis custy service is awesome!!"
