"One of the things that bothers me about sweaters today is that the vast majority of them are made with bottom hems that are too large. Maybe I'm old school but I don't want my nice sweaters to hang on me like an over-sized sweatshirt. This sweater is perfect.. It fits just like sweaters of old. I was so pleased with the fit and look that I bought both colors. These have become my favorites. Wish they came in additional colors."

it has generous sizing, roomy but accurate in the size.
nice all- cotton woven in mass, only caveat would be drying it flat, a must to avoid stretching on a hanger, or shrinkage in the dryer. tags says dry flat.
overall, a really nice garment !!"

"I come from a boating background.
I have had an old sweater for 10 yrs that was 100% Washable / Dryable Cotton. It needed to be replaced.

I did a lot of research online and found this one. The size is perfect and it really keeps me warm!
But I want to commend the customer service at Orvis.
When I called in the order, I was told that the Virginia Shipping Center was out of the item based on it's popularity.

"I received this sweater as a gift. It was beautifully boxed and wrapped.
I had to return it, which was very simple.
The only problem was the fit of the sweater. As stated in the Orvis catalog, their clothing is cut full. I have a medium build, and as true to their word, the sweater was too large in the body for me.
So overal the sweater and service was great, but just not the right cut for me."

"I simultaneously ordered a heavy cotton sweater from a competitor for a side-by-side comparison. although this specific Orvis product was well made in terms of seams and material, by comparison it had no shape, other than that of a sack. Its competition had a rich woven pattern like an expensive fisherman's sweater but it actually cost less than the Orvis."

"I love this new sweater I have purchased from Orvis! As one reviewer said, this is an iconic item, that should be in every guys wardrobe! And I have purchased these before, and actually very fine ones can come from South America. I am unsure where this is made, but the quality impresses me in three respects:
1. A bright, off-white and natural colour;
2. A slightly wider stitch than some other makers; and
3. Tight and satisfactory ribbing at the hem, cuffs, and neck.

The neck is the crew, which I prefer, although some like the turtleneck. I believe the crew is more versatile, actually, although the turtle is probably more formal... Anyway, I believe the crew more comfortable - I always order it. (Orvis does offer the same sweater with a turtleneck, however.)
And the first time I wore this sweater, I received a compliment, which is rare. All cotton, and properly tailored. Not a complex sweater, by any means - but this is it's attractivity! Not too cheap, granted, but for well made items, one expects to pay more. Works outstandingly with jeans or chinos."

The sweater was huge.But most importantly you could see thru the cotton when you put it out to the light. Plus I had to pay for the return S/H. Was really looking forward to this sweater, but definitely not the quality I expected, especially for 100 bucks."
