Nice Boots but Heavy,
January 5, 2013
By: CentralILHunter
"Looking for upland boots that have good traction, were lightweight, but well made, supportive and comfortable. Bought these. As other reviewers noted, they run large. I typically wear a size 10 or 10 1/2, but ordered these in 9 1/2, and they fit well. I was very impressed with the build quality, comfort, and support. And with the outsole, they were sure to provide much better traction than the typical Vibram gumlite soles put on so many lightweight upland boots. But, my pair weighed 4 1/2 pounds, and that was not acceptable for a half or an all day upland bird hunt. So,unfortunately had to I return them. I wish Orvis would make these in Kangaroo leather to take the weight down to 3 - 3 1/2 lbs."

Runs Large,

"The Wetlanders are clearly a quality product. Judging from a wet 1st day of pheasant season they are also quite waterproof. They do run huge so you must order down one size"

Nice Boots,
September 21, 2012
By: MichiganUplander

"Just as other reviews have stated, the boots run almost a full size big. The quality seems to be great and im sure they will hold up for years to come. I was going to use them for grouse hunting in michigan but they seem to be a bit heavy for all the walking that needs to be done but im still happy to have purchased them. Having a quality pair of waterproof leather boots here in michigan is wonderful. I got them on clearance which made them a great value. The only reason for the four stars is because of the weight."

Tops for Looks and Comfort,
August 16, 2012
By: DJB67
"Bought them for a float fishing trip in Alaska as camp boots in wet weather. Didn't get to test them much for water proofness but comfort is outstanding. They seemed a bit tight when I first put them on but the leather relaxed very quickly and they soon felt like wearing a moccasin. Guys on the trip who spend more time in the backcountry than I do all thought I find them really useful because cleaned up they will look at home with jeans walking around town in addition to being a rugged outdoor boot."

One Heck Of A Buy!,
February 11, 2012
By: crossbowme

"I won't say I'm an expert on boots as a whole. However, I served in the Army for 27 years and I am an avid hunter and fly fisherman. Most of my life I have been required to wear boots every workday. During that time I migrated away from issue boots to Danners. These provided the support I needed plus lasted a long time and had good quality.
A couple of weeks ago I noticed a sale on these Gokey boots and decided to try them since they look dressy and appeared to offer good boot support. When they arrived I immediate wore them to work. They felt so good I wore them again the next day. Now I wear them every day. In fact, they're so soft, supple and supportive that I bought another set while they were on sale.
I don't know how they'll wear in the long run but my bet is they'll be good. If you're looking for a buy these are the ones!"

Great so far!,
December 1, 2011

"I recently purchased a pair of these boots and have worn them on a few occaisions, really only to get them broken in. I can say that they are extremely comfortable right out of the box and after a handful of wearings are already feeling pretty nicely broken in. I have admired these boots in the catalog for a number of years, but never bought a pair because of the price. I finally decided that I would take the plunge and buy the boots and, so far, I am very pleased with my decision.
The bullhide leather is incredible and the craftsmanship is second to none. The footbed is incredibly stable and the uppers give extraordinary ankle support. I really like the 10" height, these boots are tall enough to give great support and protection, but not so tall as to be uncomfortable to wear under pants legs.
The sizing of the boots is very generous, apparently to accomodate thick socks. I wear a size 11 in every shoe that I own. I ordered an 11 in these boots and if I do not wear thick socks, these boots border on being too large. If you like to wear thin socks, I would suggest ordering a half size smaller than usual.
Again, I have been extremely pleased with these boots. If they continue to perform as well as they have initially, they will be my favoite boots of all time."

seams,
November 6, 2011
By: MadOrvisbuyer
"Tried three pairs, all had bad seams. Awesome otherwise. I returned them all with no problem and nothing but ease from Orvis. The leather was great, and if I can get ones with seams intact I will keep them or I might just take them to a shoe maker for a repair, its worth it I think."

"I'm often outdoors in messy conditions and on my feet for long periods. The Gore-Tex lining keep the feet dry and the tough sole provides good traction in mud and snow. As opposed to a hiking boot, they're more supple and less tiring to wear for long periods. Besides, they look great. HIghly recommended!"

"I liked these boots to moment I saw them. When I received them they fit like a slipper. When I walked in them is when I noticed a problem. They have a hidden (non metal ?) toe protector in them ( Like a steel toed shoe). This protector digs into the top of my toes. I don't own any boot or shoe with them for this reason. I went to work on them to try and bend them up so they don't dig in. They now seem to fit without problems now. I think they are worth the effort to keep. Will keep you posted (With Orvis Blessing)"

"This boot seems to be not true to size. I wear a 10.5 D size and it seems too loose. I was told by the Orvis store employee that I need to really tighten up the laces to get a good snug fit but I think with any boot, you should not need to do a really tight lace up to make the boots fit. After wearing them for a day outside, I should had returned these.
I would not recommend these boots for upland hunting, they are too heavy."

"Fantastic boots. I walk about 10 miles each day, 200 days a year, and these remain very comfortable until the heels and soles finally wear out. (The rest of the boot is extremely durable - the leather and the laces are very tough.) The leather quickly breaks in and conforms to your foot and leg shape, creating a very snug fit. These are the most comfortable boots I've ever had, in fact. They are waterproof, and suitable for wading through shallow streams. Ideal for hunting, if you wear thick wool socks for warmth."

"I am not an outdoorsman but I needed a pair of stylish and waterproof boots that could handle the snow, slush, and ice of winter in New York City. These do the job beautifully. Comfortable right out of the box and still comfortable after a day of walking. They are a bargain for the price--especially the sale price.
My only criticism is that they arrived slightly damaged, with a small tear on the toe of the left boot. So small, in fact, that I wouldn't bother to return them, but still something that should have been caught by quality control."

"I absolutely love these boots. They're as light and comfortable as they are handsome and practical. I've hunted pheasants, quail, grouse, wild turkey, and even deer and elk in the mountains of Western Montana since purchasing them a few years ago. They go very well with the Orvis wool invincible hiker socks. I even walk my lab Kaycee around the neighborhood in them because they're so comfy and just plain cool. Compliments keep coming on these. Thanks for a great product Orvis!"

"After having cold/wet feet for over 58 years, I have sought a durable, comfortable, and dry boot. I am an upland hunter, waterfowl hunter, and daily 3 mile dog trainer/walker no matter what the weather. I have defeated every "waterproof" shoe or boot ,no matter what the make that I owned. Now that I am financially able, I have tried many of the best. So far the Gokey's are dry! (and not nearly the most expensive)
It took me more than a few miles to get the right lacing tightness and sock weight but they are now very comfortable. The foot bed took its shape almost immediately and feels like a slipper. Took a little longer for the ankle areas to get the proper set ,but because my feet were staying dry, I stuck with them.
Last week, I spent 15 hours in them upland hunting and then doing a little fly fishing. Neither the wet grass, mud, or standing in shallow running water got my feet wet. YEE HA! I will provide an update in a year. By then I should have over 1,000 miles on them.

"Can you find better boots than Gokey, sure you can, but you will pay an arm and a leg for them. All things considered you just can't do better than this group. I have 5 different pairs of their shoes/boots and all have stood the test of time. I highly recommend these to anyone who wants a "better" shoe/boot."

"Great boots! I had ordered them for hiking in the West Virginia mountains late last year (2006). However, last week (mid Feb. 2007) I went to the Smokey Mountains in Townsend, TN and got slammed, really slammed by snow and cold. We hiked all over the trails for miles in the park and fished just as hard, plus hiked in the park when the roads were closed within the park and throughout the time the boots stood their ground. I tell you at no point were my feet cold or wet. Again, great boots, the money for them may make you pause at first but they are worth it. Just suck it up and buy them, you'll thank me later."
