Heavy Metal Extra Sink Putty

Heavy Metal Extra fishing line weight offers a vastly improved alternative to lead shot. Due to its incredible content of tungsten, its weight is comparable to lead, but completely safe and non-toxic. As it warms up it becomes softer. As it cools down it reverts back to its original hardness. Once it has softened to the consistency of chewing gum mold it around your line to your required shape. Immerse fishing line weight in water for ten seconds for the putty to cure and harden before casting. 25g per tub.

"You don't need that much- just a pinch. It helps keeping it warm so keep close to your heart. Hard to use when it gets cold."

Good Stuff,

By: Soldat15

"I haven't used this on nymphs, but I have used it with streamers in heavy current. It can take a bit to mold it in the cold, but I haven't had any other issues with it. I love the fact that it's reusable."

Great Stuff,
September 30, 2012
By: JPort
from Maine
"I recently bought this sink putty and used it nymph-fishing my favorite river. Even in cool September weather, it was pliable and went on the leader nicely. Rub it up and down the leader in the area you are going to put it to create a little more grit to keep it in place."

"I have been looking for an alternative to sinking line and slit shot for a longtime. Am willing to give this a shot on the Salmon River this week. I will write a more detailed review then."

Okay, but needs work,
June 12, 2012
By: SaveLaurelHillCreek

"Like the weight and the ability to sink quickly. But it needs to be a bit tackier to hold the line more consistently through multiple casts, particularly in colder waters. This is a step up from the previous brown putty, which was as hard as a rock. However, the dark gray version before that was much stickier and better, in my view. I still use the tiny bit I have left in my vest when the weather and water turns cold. Orvis, if you reformulate, give this Heavy Metal version more stick and it will be perfect."

Works as described.,

"I haven't used any other tungsten putty to compare this too, but it shaped easily onto the line, stayed in place, and was easy to pull off the line for later use. It does seem stiff in the package but was easy to work onto the line on a 35F winter day."

Good product,
January 23, 2012
By: Arkauer
from Auburn Hills, MI
"Used it for sinking my egg pattern for Steelhead. It gets to the bottom quicker and stays on the bottom. I used it as a adjustment to my splitshot. Holds on pretty well. Did cast off a chunk and had trouble kepping in place when casting and ticking the bottom. Kinda hard to form at 25 degrees, but a little hand heat turned it into putty. Like I mentioned above, use it for adjustments to a splitshot. I got that tip from the Orvis podcast on nymphing, and it makes indicator fishing a lot less stressful."

"Not sure how long the product will last, as there isn't much in the box. Super heavy tho, and molds easily on the line."

good stuff if used properly,

"I only use this stuff in really fast water. When they say heavy, they mean it! You can easily use too much. It can also stain your tippet if you're not careful."

Sink Putty,
December 1, 2011
By: vtcaddis
from Steamboat Springs, CO
"Upon receiving the heavy metal sink putty was excited to start nymphing in deep pools. I love the fact that i had it in my pack and was fishing in 25 degree weather and the putty didn't freeze. However, I was a bit disappointed that the putty didn't hold in place on the leader when i casted even lightly. It slid around. Will try to figure a better method of rigging"
