"The vest is finished on both sides and is reversible, but...
The solid red side is the dominant side despite the photos showing plaid side. The buttons are on the right on the red side, so the plaid side buttons "backwards." Also, the red side has watch pockets, the plaid side does not. Frankly, I bought it for the red side, so I am happy, but if you want to wear the plaid side and have a watch fob, you cannot."

"I ordered an XL because I have a long torso. That left a lot of room in the body, so it's kind of a loose fit. It would be nice if there was some means to draw in the sides (and let it out for Christmas dinner!!) to make it a little more fitted...even if it was only on one side (it's reversible)."

He and his wife handed me an Orvis catalog and gift money to order for myself. I ordered it on line and had it within days (before Christmas). "Love the vest and the Royal Stewart tartan is a lovely choice because anyone can wear that tartan without actually being affiliated to a clan. The double sided nature of the vest is a great attribute and makes it even more practical. A fun, reasonably priced item which looks practical and Scottish funky."

"Some 40 years ago, my mother began a family tradition by getting my father and I red vests for Christmas dinner. We wore the vests every year and when my sisters married, their husbands got one too. One received a tartan plaid, because my mother could not find solid red that year. My boys are now reaching adulthood and I have been looking for such vests without success and was resigned to having them custom made. Surprise, having never gotten an Orvis catalog in the mail I got one this year and in it was the red wool vest I have been looking for. I quickly picked up a couple and we have renewed my mother's Christmas tradition. I have never bought from Orvis before, but the quality and fit were right on so I will continue to scan my Orvis catalogs for other special items. Now if I could only get my daughter to marry........."

"Bought this vest based on my mom telling me just how handsome she thought my dad would look in this vest- tartan side for Christmas and solid red for Valentine Day! They both loved it and said it was beautiful and well made... "looks like it would be so expensive" was my mom's comment as she described the smile on dad's face as he tried it on. Sadly the size large, dad's usual size, was too small for him. Mom said he rushed straight to the post office to return for an extra large. They are anxiously awaiting it's arrival in the hope he can wear it Christmas Eve."
