Best wading pack you can find,
March 12, 2012
By: SAOLakeErie
from Lake Erie PA, OH, and NY
"The Safe Passage Sling Pack is super comfortable, easy to access, and packs in all your fly-fishing essentials. This Sling pack gives you back the freedom of motion you lost by filling that flak jacket you called a fishing vest full of stuff you can never find again! As a fly fishing guide on Lake Erie's "Steelhead Alley," I need access to my terminal tackle quickly while standing in the river, I need the freedom to move and not feel weighed down, and I also need to carry enough gear to supply 2 or 3 anglers each day. The bonus about this pack? If you like to swing flies and cast two handed rods, this pack will not disrupt your casting—it carries extra tips, spools, fly boxes, and leaders, yet still has enough room for a beverage of your choice! Do I really need to say more?

Sling Pack,
May 2, 2013
By: MoFisher
"This is my second sling pack the first was a gift and regular green and "clashed" with my new grey waders.....this new digital pattern blends better.
So I llike the way it is out of the way under my arm with lots of room for fishing stuff....and net and license holder on the back strap. I have not figured out how to use the "sternum" strap so I just removed it. For just flshing stuff.....a smaller pouch would be handier.......the current size hangs down and gets wet a lot..."

"Just got this pack after looking at it for over a year and I don't know why I didn't buy it earlier. Love the size and how easily it swings out of the way. Really like the digital camo pattern, too. Great job, Orvis!"

"Used it for the first time, works great easily slides out of the way.holds everything you need without the bulky feeling. Also with no lanyard less chance of tangles etc.
Did not receive instructions on the two straps and the salesman at the store wasn't sure what they were for.
Overall though great product.

Too small.,
April 6, 2013
By: heo9542

"I bought this because I'm tired of stuffing my pockets with fly boxes and lanyards can be a bit annoying. My only complaint is it is to small. I don't carry that much stuff but with two small fly boxes and a spare spool it was full. So I returned it with absolutely no hassle and got the guide sling. Much better."

Very comfortable,

"This pack is very comfortable and designed well. While I did not get it for fly fishing, I use it for international travel and outdoor trekking. My first time out I put some of my basics in it for a short hike. I even had some water and a handgun in it and the balanced design did not weigh me down or feel awkward at all. I'm thinking about getting a second one...one to get dirty and another for urban use. Love it, will never use another hip pack ever."

I Approve,
April 1, 2013
By: GooseCutter

"I've had a lot of fishing packs - most recently a William Joseph chest pack, which got in the way of using my spey rod, and an older iteration of the Safe Passages Tri Pack, which was just too bulky all around (this was probably my fault for filling up all the space). I picked up the sling pack the other week and I have to say - I really like it. It is the perfect size for what I need to carry and it also lets me use a two-hander without any interference.
Being a taller guy, the girth strap is a big useless as it is basically going around my rib cage, not like the video where it is around the waist. However, the sternum strap is perfect, so I'm not sure why anyone would prefer the girth strap.
My one question on the pack is: what the heck am I supposed to use the velcro strip for? The zinger strip and magnet are very clever, but the velcro strip is a mystery to me.
I do with the largest of the interior pockets was just a bit bigger to accomodate my shooting head wallet. Of course, it isn't from Orvis and their version may very well fit just right."

Simplicity,

"I have spent the winter simplifying my gear, less is more. With three or four thin boxes and a deeper double side for dries this pack carries everything anyone could ever need. No more vest weighted down with stuff I never use. Great pack!"

Excellent pack,

"Having used a messenger style bag for years, this was a natural fit for me. The fly box pocket will hold several of the super slim fly boxes and one larger one. I'm also able to carry a bottle of water as well as a rain jacket and all of the tools I need for fishing. It's been to Mexico with me as well as some great trips in Colorado and has performed very well every time."

No More Tired Shoulders,
February 10, 2013
By: JohnJA
from California
"I bought one of these in the Spring of 2011. I figured I would use this once in a while when out on very small streams. The sling pack forced me to think carefully about what I wanted to carry. There was a lot of stuff in my vest that I rarely use. I can put everything I need for a day's fishing in this pack plus a water bottle. Haven't used my vest since. Last Summer, I figured out how to attache a net using a couple of magnets. The pack disappears when you fishing. I carry about five pounds less gear now. That makes a big difference."

Great Pack,
January 24, 2013
By: BenZCO
from Fort Collins, CO
"I've used a vest and a chestpack, neither were great. This sling pack is the answer to my prayers. The main compartment is roomy enough for multiple spools of tippet, a couple of flyboxes (on top of the front flybox pocket) indicators and even some chemical hand warmers. I used it in cold weather and the zippers were easy to use even with cold wet fingers. The pack easily slides behind you and out of the way, I barely knew it was there while fishing. The magnetic hemostat holsters really work well and keep them tucked away. No more line getting tangled up in pliers. Yet they were easy to get to when I needed them."

Great pack but confusing straps,
January 10, 2013
By: Riffle
"Just got the pack and it will be great. But the instructions for attaching and using the girth and sternum straps are very confusing. To compound the confusion, the instruction insert specifically says the pack is to be worn over the right should while the photos on the literature attached to the pack show it worn over the left shoulder. Probably won't matter tho since the extra straps seem superfulous anyway. I think the pack will be great!"

So far, so good,
January 9, 2013
By: cvhdvm
from SE MI
"I'm giving this pack 4 stars as I've yet to hit the water, but based on loading it and wearing it around the house, it is quite spacious and very comfortable.
I have several vests and chest/back pack combinations, but these have the tendency to be too warm, (vest and chest/back pack) obstruct my view of my feet (chest pack) or encourage me to carry too much gear. The Safe Passage Sling Pack seems to effectively address all of these issues quite well.
My only complaint thus far is that I am unable to purchase the tippet bar separately for this pack - the tippet bar accessory comes with the "Fully Loaded" Sling Pack and with the Guide Sling Pack, but is not available for the angler who all ready has the other accessories and doesn't need to spend an additional $100+ to "upgrade" the purchase.
I will revisit this review once I've been able to fish with the pack, and I hope that Orvis will make the tippet bar accessory available in the near future."

Instructions,
January 6, 2013
By: Sidesid
from Wales
"The instructions for using this are very poor, why when it says to wear it over the RIGHT shoulder do you have photos of an angler wearing it on his LEFT shoulder. What is the black strip with holes in on the front left of the pack?. What are the two straps for? I think the large internal pocket should should have pockets/divisions on both sides. I can only get the video when I visit the USA site."
