Did not hold up,
January 28, 2013
By: mlupes
from Houston, TX
"Molly's grandma bought her this toy for Christmas and within a week it was not "playable" any more. One of the arms was almost torn off and she destroyed the chin hair down to the insert. She received a rabbit last Christmas from Orvis that stood up until just before Christmas this year, but this toy just not as good as the last one. It's a bummer cuz it was expensive, it's cute, and she liked it."

Favorite toy,
January 16, 2013
By: DobieDog
from Atlanta, GA
"I have purchased a few of these for our dog - a 65lb Doberman mix. For some reason she loves these Orvis toys above all others and never fails to go dig them out and get someone to play with her. Eventually they get destroyed but they last a good time and she loves them."

Attractive, Durable Toy,

By: vizslagirl

"My Vizsla loves his moose and carries it with him everywhere. He's had the moose for 6 weeks now, and the only damage he's done is pulling out some of the moose's chin hair. It is a durable toy with fun texture."

Didn't last through Christmas Day,
December 26, 2012
By: BoxersGrandmother
from North of Boston, MA
"I bought this for my 3 1/2 year old boxer grand dog as a Christmas present. Before Christmas dinner was over he had detached two legs and the tail. While the fabric is tough the sewing used for limbs is not. He's happy playing with the legs and removing the stuffing from the body but I had hoped the moose would last intact for longer than a few hours. It's not worth the price."

The moose lives on,
July 14, 2012
By: Bigglesof266
"18 months down the line and the moose still lives. A thorough biting and shaking every morning and taking to bed every night. Meg the greyhound loves her moose. At 5.30am we find the squeaking a little irritating though!"

Epic fail,
July 2, 2012
By: Khrios
from Santa Rosa, CA
"My 4 1/2 month old golden retriever puppy had Moose for 3 days, and the back seam just unraveled, exposing the batting.
The fabric is strong and intact, but the stitching just opened up."

Molli's Moose,
June 16, 2012
By: Anonymous
"Molli is a Black Lab & is almost 14 months old & this is the ONLY toy she has that she has NOT destroyed. She is not a "chewer" except her rawhide bones, but the hundreds of dollars we have spent on herstuffed animals is just a watse of money. She LOVES her new stuffed animals, but they never last. This moose is amazing! The only reason I am getting her a new one is because hjen she plays she drops the nasty thing on my lap. She will play & thrash her moose all day long trying to kill it. If you tell her to get get her moose, she goes right for it. Molli has to be crated for a couple of hours, a few days a week, Now she can keep her old moose in her crate & have a new moose to play with inside the house. Amazing Moose :0"

Worth replacing,
May 26, 2012
By: Redwoods
from Reston, VA
"So this moose isn't indestructible - what stuffed toy is? But given his softness, appendages, and number of seams, he IS surprisingly durable... even in the clutches of our shredding expert (a golden retriever).
More importantly, he is beloved: this is the toy our pooch takes to bed every night, the one that accompanies us on trips, the one with his own command: "Get your moose." It's the ONLY toy we're devoted to replacing - and we do, every time we're down to a single arm or antler. I'm back for Moose #4 in 3 years, and I'm happy to do it.
Realistically, the qualities that make this toy so much fun for dogs - soft cordy texture, crinkles, speakers, and floppy limbs that reward shaking - are the same qualities that encourage your dog to tear a toy apart. It's a wonder these last as long as they do, and I chalk that up to excellent construction."

Fun and Durable Toy!,
December 30, 2011
By: Am00nKlein
from Concord, CA
"Originally I bought this toy for my Basset Hound because it was cute, orange, and and he loves stuffed toys (Taylor loves chewing, tossing, and tearing them)... and when it arrived, I saw how well constructed it was. It has 5 squeekers and crinkly sounding moose ears. This moose is super durable so it will definitely last. I would totally recommend it :)"

"I have previously purchased a lamb made of antit-rip material and my dog enjoyed it immensly. I visited the shop with a freind who bought this toy for my dog (18 month old GSP). Dog enjoyed it immensely and was very excited about same but then he started to tear it apart and unfortunately it did not survive the first day. HE still has part of it which he like to cuddle up to."

"The Jack Russels absolutely loved it. However, it only took them about an hour to pretty much destroy it and rip parts off. It was not as durable as we had hoped for, but in all fairness, these dogs are pretty tough on toys."

Faceless Moose,
January 2, 2011
By: GROwner
"I had high expectations for this toy. It was very cute and I loved the fabric it was made out of, but my 10 month old Golden Retriever had the face torn apart in one day. I'm wondering if it would have held up better without the hair tuft on his chin; that's where it all began. She still loves the toy and carries it around the house with her even though it doesn't have a face or any stuffing in it."
Response from Orvis:By Orvis Customer Service TeamJanuary 6, 2011
Orvis Customer Service immediately contacted this customer and apologized that the toy was torn open so easily and also offered the customer a full refund for the toy. Orvis greatly appreciates customer feedback about our pet items as we are constantly trying to find ways to improve them. "Our 2 year old Shepard/Husky mix loves to shred fabric toys within minutes of receiving them and our 5 month old German Shepard mix puppy also loves to chew. I first spotted this moose back in August and finally ordered it as a Christmas gift for them. When I received the moose in the mail I was very impressed with the perceived durability of it (heavy stitching and fabric, sewn vs. button eyes, etc.), the different sounds of the squeakers (4 'normal' sounding squeakers and 1 'deeper', almost similar to duck noise belly squeaker) and size. I was very excited to give them 'Roy, as we later began calling him! Both dogs LOVED this toy!! Feel asleep with him in their arms, used him as a pillow, TOOK HIM EVERYWHERE! Unfortunately, 'Roy only lasted two days here in our house and, although arms and legs are sewn independently from body to keep the toy usable after an appendage has been removed, his body was broken into and the stuffing all came out. Although 'Roy is out of commission now, the girls run around playing with his lone arm still constantly. Although he did not last long, as we expected, I would consider buying another just because they loved him SO MUCH! Great toy but certainly not indestructible."

"Our 5 year old golden retriever loves his moose! Although he is an enthusiastic shredder, he has had it for over 3 months now and it has held up very well. He takes it to bed with him almost every night and he enjoys shaking the bejesus out of it as well. Overall, its a great quality toy and certainly a family favorite. If Orvis offered another corduroy animal, we would snap it up! Love that moose!"
