Access 7-weight 9' Fly Rod—Tip Flex

3 oz. 9', 4-piece, Tip-Flex Fly Rod for 7-wt. line. For light saltwater, bonefish, redfish, schoolie stripers and big freshwater, like Alaskan rainbows and Dolly Varden, the Access 907-4 is an incredible value. Using our proprietary tapers and actions developed on Helios in creating a light but powerful rod for mid-size fish, Orvis now has one of the best inshore, tropical flats and Alaskan rods around in the 907-4 Tip. The versatility of this rod is spectacular and for the traveling angler there is perhaps no better all around weapon and at a stunningly low price.

Love the Access,

"This is my second Access rod. First is a 5wt. That one easily handles steelhead and is perfect for half-pounders on the Klamath. Can't wait to use this rod in Christmas Island for bonefish this fall."

A long casting beauty,

"I bought my 7 weight fro fishing an estury for Sea Trout and the odd Sea Bass. I wanted something with plenty of backbone, but that was nice and light with good response. I found it in this rod!
I primarily use the rod with shooting heads and loops are tight and the distance looooooong. Flies tend to be sandeel patterns or Clouser Minnows.
I have also started to use it with a Rio 7 weight Streamer line and weighted sculpins and the like. Again it handles these flies and line with ease.
Lastly, I have tried it with a Rio Outbound and 3-6 inch Pike flies. Now this is real fun!!
I really like the rod and I am trying to find excuses to use it more. Seriously considering replacing my Zero Gravities with 4/5 and 6 wieght versions of the Access.
I have tried the 6 weight Switch too, again a great rod but I have the 7 weight Helios so will use that for a while longer."

Another Great Orvis Rod,
December 18, 2012

"Before I review this product, I must sing the praises of Orvis' customer service.
I recently had a damaged Clearwater II rod, and I contacted customer service for support. The support I received was outstanding, and in the end I decided to return the Clearwater II rod in exchange for the Access rod. Don't get me wrong, the Clearwater II was a great rod, but I thought I'd upgrade to something a little different.
Anyway, I conctacted Orvis on a Monday, sent my rod in, and had a new rod at my front door by Thursday afternoon! I can't say enough about how impressed I am with the customer service. It will keep me coming back to Orvis for all my fly fishing needs!
Okay, back to the Access rod...
So far, I've only tested it on Great Lakes steelhead, and it has performed flawlessly. Although it doesn't roll cast as well as longer rods, it has had plenty of backbone to handle fresh run steelhead. In my first hour with rod, I landed three steelhead, including one on the third cast!
I really bought this rod for bass fishing, and I can't wait to test it out on smallmouth next summer.
I would definitely recommend this rod to a friend. If steelhead are your primary target, go for the 10" rod. However, if you need a great rod to cover multiple species, this rod is an awesome choice."

"I just purchased the access 907-4 rod, and tested it on some big bass. I ended up catching a 10 pound largemouth, and the rod handled it great. This is a great fly rod and highly recommend it to anyone. Great product, good job orvis."

Best of 5 Rods so far,
June 3, 2011

"I purchased the Access 907-4 tip flex rod for use as a Bass rod, I coupled it with an old Battenkill 7/8 with the new 7wgt Streamer Stripper and it balances perfectly, for me the balance is right in the middle of the grip balanced on one finger.
I used it to go fishing yesterday and I was able to throw #4s all day, and that was a 5.5 hr. day. The finish is beautiful, I like the Brown color and the wraps are very well done it cast's like a cannon,I was able to throw 50ft cast's from a sitting position and my arm didn't hurt. Excellent rod.
NOW for the bad part I'm not happy with the way the Ferrule's join together there is a gap of about 1/2" it doesn't affect the performance at all it's just someting I'm not used to seeing. I'm happy with it. OH! The reason I mentioned no discomfort in my arms is I'm 72 yrs old
