Edwards, Colorado 2-Day Fly Fishing School
Perched on a mountaintop overlooking the magnificent Vail Valley and Sawatch Range sits The Lodge & Spa at Cordillera, and the location of the Orvis Colorado Fly Fishing School. With 1.7 miles of the Eagle River running through the Cordillera property, this is an ideal location to learn how to fly fish. "I signed up for the two day September fly fishing school in Colorado because of the good reviews. I thought it would be a great way to get into the sport since I have only fly fished once in my lifetime. I arrived to find myself being the only student. It turned out to be the best thing ever. My instructor Jeff Lyon was excellent. By the end of the Saturday class I was able to overhead cast, rollcast, and riverload cast. Jeff has a passion that makes the learning process fun and interesting. On Sunday he took me out to the Colorado River for on the river training. Jeff showed me the importance of setting a good drift and mend it into a perfect drift. We caught a lot fish and I had a great time. I would highly recommend this class with Jeff Lyon."

"I just returned from the 2 day school with my daughter who will graduate from college next year. I wanted to get back into fly fishing and wanted her to learn.
Jeff Lyons was our instructor. The school far exceeded our expectations. Not only did Jeff make sure we learned the fundamentals so we could fly fish on our own confidently, his passion and love for the sport was inspirational and left us wanting to learn more.
Lots of fish stories to be made in the future.

"Wow! What an interesting, educational and informative two days. Jeff, our instructor, couldn't have been more helpful. His presentation of the material was clear, concise and very useful. His knowledge is not just from a book but is from experience. I would highly recommend this school to anyone with an interest in flyfishing."

"Just had a great time with Jeff and Jay at the Edwards Fly-Fishing School. My daughter and I came in with basically no fishing experience. This was perfect for us. Jeff has a great school and can teach to whatever level you show up at. He is a great teacher, has in depth knowledge and can put it to use on the water. My daughter caught her first fish ( a beautiful rainbow trout) and it will be something she will never forget! You cant go wrong with this school!"

"My dad, brother, and I just returned from the two-day school with Jeff. In short, we all left with a new skill that we hope to use for the rest of our lives! Even as fishing rookies (with no fly fishing experience), Jeff was extremely patient with our learning, and gave us all plenty of one-on-one coaching. Jeff took full advantage of the unpredictable weather, and let us jump right into casting from the first minute. We had plenty of time casting on the water - both still ponds and running streams. Jeff made sure we mastered each basic technique before moving on to more advanced steps, but always kept the lessons interesting. We all left the class with both the confidence to fish, and the right variety of basic gear, all recommended by Jeff. We cannot wait to get out and tune our skills! Jeff's passion for the sport is incredible, and his eagerness to teach others to fly fish is remarkable!"

"I finally took the time to get a real education In fly fishing, and did these guys deliver! Well worth the trip to Colorado and well worth the price... Two days of excellent instruction and practical experience on the water. Jeff, Mark, and Jay were patient and knowledgable. They really helped me get (at least some of) my bass fishing "bad habits" under control, and I followed the course up with a couple of mornings on the Eagle River with a guide from FFO. I had the most fun fishing I've had in years! I'm hooked to a fly rod for life!"

"What a thrill!! A fantastic experience and well worth the cost...a wonderful value!! Jeff and his other two instructors were wonderful and it was a class size of 5 students. It was an extremely well balanced class of classroom instruction, practice, and actual fishing. The instructors were invaluable in coaching and mentoring our progress and knew their subject cold. I was most impressed not only with the instruction but the facilities and the fly fishing areas. Wonderful!! You MUST try this...you will not be disappointed and Jeff Lyon is the best as is Fly Fishing Outfitters. Its hard work but you will leave fly fishing and enjoying it!!"

"My son and I had never fly fished. After two days with Jeff, we were totally confident with the fly rod and equipment. He is totally committed to his students and the sport of fly fishing. "Seven of us (mostly strangers) meet at the Cordillera Lodge and Spa in Edwards, CO for a two day Orvis fly fishing class. Our instructors were Jeff and Daryl from Fly Fishing Outfitters in Avon, CO. Although relaxed and fun, their knowledge is impressive. Most of all Jeff and Daryl are patient, positive and able to tailor their instruction to the needs of each student. Thanks guys. You are highly recommended!"

"First of all I would like to thank Jeff for all his expertise and patience with me and my buddy. I'm sure we were a handful at times with our witty comments and bickering at each other, but we were having such a good time with Jeff we felt that he was one of the guys.
His instruction and laid back approach was spot on when it comes to learning how to fly fish. He tailored his instruction to fit both our personalities and he was very patient with us even when we were frustrated, but by the end of the second day everything begin to click and let's just say I'm excited to continue fly fishing the rest of my life.
Next year I plan on taking the class again with my son since the experience is unlike any other instruction in Colorado. Thanks Jeff for the great weekend!"

"I want to thank Jeff Lyon, my instructor through the Orvis program out of Edwards, CO. What a solid start I have to a lifetime of fly fishing! Not only was the course and his instruction technically beneficial, but we spent a majority of our time practicing various techniques while on the water. Needless to say, I've come back to St. Louis eager to join experienced fly fishermen on upcoming outings and I am no longer anxious about being new to the sport. It is evident to me that the knowledge gained through the Orvis school is beneficial to anyone, no matter their experience level.

"just got back from a great weekend. jeff and matt were superb. matt made a special trip to the shop to put together and bring back a birthday present complet with gift bag. They both spent extra time with all the students even after we were supposed to go home. They made sure everyone was accomodated to their skill level. they have a huge excitement for the sport and their jobs. would highly recommend cordilerra lodge as well. wonderful setting and great staff and food."

"I was treated to this 2-day school for my birthday and it exceeded all expectations. Jeff and Matt instilled in me the PASSION for the sport. I wanted to learn for several reasons. I also decided that trout don't live in ugly places. Jeff taught us the RIGHT way to cast, read the river, introduced us to the best products, and generally a love for the sport. The location is exceptional. I have never seen someone go so much ABOVE and beyond what is expected than Jeff and Matt. I would definitely come back to this school but only after I visit all the other Orvis schools they told us about! GREAT, GREAT' GREAT!!!!!!!!!!"

"The Orvis Fly Fishing School at Cordillera was a great time and I would highly recommend it to anyone that does any type of fishing or just loves being outdoors. Jeff was a great guide and fly fishing instructor. I know that without him and the other guides and instructors I would have just been throwing line around. "I had an immense amount of fun at the orvis fly fishing school at cordillera. Jeff was a superb instructor who epitomized the word charismatic. Not only did he and the other instructors provide a learning experience packed with knowledge, but they also executed the ability to inspire their students and keep them interested at all times. When they gave feedback, the instructors built upon us students' current skill levels and efficiently crafted us into legitimate fly fishermen. Additionally, the scenery that you're exposed to (rivers, mountains, ponds) provided us with pure feelings of sublime. If you're interested in learning the sport or just want to do some fishing with some great people in some magnificent areas, sign up and enjoy the breathtaking experience."

"Jeff and the other guides were very knowledgeable and patient with the students even though some of us had never fly fished before. He limited time in the classroom so we could enjoy the weather and learning outdoors. Even though we had quite a large group, they were able to give us all the the guidance and attention we needed to succeed in the sport. They had a perfect balance between class time and being out on the water. We were brought to several beautiful locations to fish and were provided all the necessary equipment. I would recommend this school to anyone and everyone from advanced fishers to beginners. Thank you so much Orvis for the amazing time and the knowledge you have shared!"

"I read a great article in the local paper about the Orvis Fly Fishing 2-day school at Cordillera right in my backyard. Having only fly fished a couple of times and really enjoyed, I signed up for the school licky split! Wow, am I glad that this happened. Was one of only three with a really great instructor - Jeff who made everything seem easy and manageable. We spent minimum time in the classroom and most outside learning how to cast and the techniques of making consistent and on target casts. The ponds at Cordillera were excellent training grounds with a guide of Jeff's caliber. Living in an area with really great streams and not fly fishing is suddenly a bad idea now that I have the basics and am enjoying the beginning of a great new endeavor. Thanks to Orvis for having this school in my backyard and even more to the capable instructor that Jeff is!
As a byline, I have since acquired Orvis gear and tackel and have taken a guided wade with Jeff and am really enjoying this new outdoor sport. I have lots to learn, but am very pleased with my initial steps."

"I attended the two day school at Cordillera on July 18 & 19. My instructor was Jeff Lyon who was outstanding. He was not one for spending countless hours in the class room, but anxious to have us get our hands on casting techniques and the fishing the great ponds located in Cordillera. The private fishing on the Eagle river was restricted due to high stream flows thus the ponds. In two days I went from a neophyte to a somewhat knowledgeable student. I was so impressed with Jeff that last week I took a private full day wading tour with him and that was a delightful experience. I also with his help purchased a beginning set of tackle. I am quickly becoming a "fly fisher" - Thanks to Jeff and Orvis!"

"I wouldn't want my first experience fly fishing to have been any different than how it ended up. The guide, Jeff Lyon, was patient, extremely knowledgeable, easy going, professional, and made the entire learning experience great. I had never touched a fly rod before this trip and had ZERO fly fishing knowledge. After two days of fishing in Edwards, CO, I left feeling that I could purchase gear and show up on a lake and fly fish without looking like a joke."
