Favorite pants of all-time,
April 10, 2013
By: jmeffy
"These are my favorite pair of pants I have ever owned. The fabric is soft, flexible, tough and water repellant. I love having them when I travel and even when I'm not on the road. They are comfortable and still dressy enough I can get by wearing them with a sports coat and tie."

Great travel pants,
September 6, 2011

"I am tall enough to have worried when another reviewer was disappointed with a longer inseam without a higher rise. I took a chance and ordered a pair anyway when I couldn't find anything else that appealed to me as much. I was replacing some zip-off pants that I never bothered to zip off and convert to shorts.
The khaki is more of an olive drab, with a greenish tint that is not as neutral as other Orvis chino-type pants. The fit is not as loose as standard Orvis chinos and the detailing is definitely casual. I have now worn these over a long week-end. The rise was just fine, and when I hiked on some poor trails I wouldn't have wanted any longer rise for climbing over logs and scrambling up rocks. We went canoeing, with my car keys in a zippered pocket. The wet cuffs dried on the paddle, The last evening we went to a Korean restaurant, where the pants looked just fine but the napkin kept sliding off the nylon fabric. Next time I will tuck the napkin in the waist band.
I have ordered a second pair. These pants will go with me on all but the most formal trips."

"I bought these recently and have been very happy with them. The fabric is light enough to wear on warmer days, but also has enough strength and give for hiking and hunting. I recently used these in light to moderate cover during preserve shoot and they held up well, plus dried quickly after getting wet. The styling is a little less traditional, for what that is worth."

"bought a pair on vacation in fla. i love them. they are very comfortable and fit pretty true to size. the fabric is a bit flexible so i could see getting a size smaller. very well designed. i took them to europe for 2 weeks and wore them nearly every day. easy to wash and dries fast. i have 3 pairs. a larger side
pocket would be nice.

"If you wear long-rise (long waist) sizes, don't waste your time or cost to return them. The sales person in the local store said that since Orvis' sizing is generous, a 34" waist should be comfortable, so I ordered them from the website because they are not stocked in this store. After delivery, I found that a 34" waist (my normal size) was very tight-vertically, and the 36" waist I ordered in case the 34" was too tight was huge. Back they went. My low overall rating reflects the sizing issues.
If you are looking for the extreme hip-hugger feel and look, these probably will meet your outdoor needs. The pants have a lot of things going for them: nice fabric, and outdoor features well thought through.
Orvis may want to consider long-rise sizing or giving more dimensions and information on sizing and fit.
