"I've only used Orvis leaders for the past year, but am now wondering if I should switch leaders. Two weekends ago while fishing the 7.5 ft 5x leader with a nymph rig, I got overzealous on a hook set and lifted the whole rig out of the water. When I went to recast, the line caught the willow behind me and SNAP a broken leader. I thought wow, that was strange and imagined the leader broke at a knot. No, it broke above my strike indicator.
This was a brand new leader taken out of the pack. Very surprised, but it's only happened this one time."

"I fish several small streams and creeks in my area and the super strong nylon leaders have been great. They're tough yet supple enough to make a nice delicate presentation and in the 15' length are great for casting to wary fish."

"I have been using these leaders for a couple of years now and I am extremely pleased with them. I have had a few 8+ lb Largemouth Bass litterally start towing me and my 10 foot kayak around during our game of tug of war. With the help of these Orvis leaders I am happy to say I won the battles. "I love these leaders! Very good turn over with excellent strength and knot reliability. I nail knot mine onto the end of the line (actually through the end of the line and out 1" up) and use a tiny silver ring on the business end. I put the tippet and dropper on the ring and the whole thing just turns over like it is supposed to.

"The Super Strong Nylon leaders have never failed me. As a fly fisherman with only a year's experience quality leaders have played an important part in catching more fish. The pre-tied loop makes changing leaders simple and when it comes to adding tippets the line proves its quality again especially compared to my knots! As I get better at our sport I do not see a need to change leaders and will stick with Orvis Super Strong."

"Used this product last week & after breaking off several large trout I checked the leader & found it to break quite easily for 4.75 # test . Leader was on sale so don't know if it was old or what but not up to snuff."

We thank you for your feedback regarding this product. After receiving this comment, we tested the tensile strength of five random samples of 7.5-foot 5X Super Strong leaders on our internal Instron testing machine. The average breaking strength for these five samples was 4.6 pounds, with a maximum of 4.77 pounds. These results are very standard for tapered leaders, which must be stretched and heated multiple times during manufacturing. It is also worth remembering that the tensile strength for any material decreases significantly once a knot is put in place. We hope this resolves any concerns about the advertised breaking strength of our Super Strong leaders. As always, we do offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all of our products.

"This is a great product and I have been using Orvis leaders for many years. I can always rely on them to be true to the breaking rating. I have only rarely had one fail, usually because of the operator and not the leader itself.
I use these leaders and tie on a length of fluorocarbon tippet when nymph fishing with an indicator. If care is used when tying the knots, and knots are moistened and pulled tight, there is no problem with tying fluoro to mono. The mono leaders are strong and save on the added expense of a full fluorocarbon leader. I buy the leaders a little shorter than the desired full length so I can adjust the tippet size to the size of fish and the length to the depth of water being fished."

With modern extrusion techniques, I'm convinced the tapers on knotless leaders are as good or better than knotted leaders.

"I have been using Super Strong leaders for nearly 20 years now and find that they have the softness I need for delicate presentations. Most of my flies are 18 to 20's and I use light line rods, 2 to 4 weights and this has been consistently my favorite leader"
