Just right for my 14 y old son,

By: Gentleman

"We used this combo at the FF 101 school in Plymouth Meeting and found it to perform superbly. Sorry, Orvis, we will use this for awhile before upgrading. Excellent construction and a great value. Thank you Orvis, my son is hooked on something real, not electronic."

I expected better quality from Orvis,
April 18, 2013
By: Chet22
from Washington, DC
"I received this combo as a gift from my brother.
I took it fishing on the Potomac for the shad run. While fighting my first fish, the 3rd section of the rod snapped. Considering the rod had only been used to practice casting in my yard, I did not expect it to just break.
Before it broke, it did cast nicely. The rod and reel are a good match and I think it's a great starter outfit to introduce someone to fly fishing.
I will say that my customer service experience was great. I went through the rod repair process, but took the opportunity to upgrade to the Access 5-weight 8'6" Fly Rod—Mid Flex instead. It arrived on my doorstep three days later and I was back on the water."

Great Way to Start,

By: JRJ2111

"The intention of my purchase was to provide my son a starting platform for fly fishing. I have been impressed with my previous Orvis experiences which is why I returned. Orvis continues to deliver, even at an entry level set up. Quality remains synonymous with the Orvis name.
I am looking forward to memory's built with my son's new Streamline."

"Figured this to be a "disposable" first fly rod. Was completely wrong. Perfect for my needs and very high quality. Will be a very long time before I would have any reason to upgrade. Excellent value."

Disappointing results,
September 17, 2012
By: toiletduck
"I want to give this outfit five stars because when I've been able to use it, I have few issues and it does the job well. The problem is that it's been out of service more often than not. I had to return my first one after about four times out on the river because the reel sheered off the bracket. I am now having to return the replacement because the tip snapped off (top two inches) the first time I was out with it. And I am hardly doing extreme fishing. Customer service was friendly but not exactly stellar - they did not make it easy to replace the rod (I had to return to Rod Repairs so they could determine I was not at fault, and simultaneously order a new one). I know this is the cheapest model Orvis offers, but I expected more given the price and the quality I assumed was behind the name."

4th fly rod of the year,
September 14, 2012
By: sierrafishin
from Eastern Sierras, CA
"I needed a 4 piece rod that could travel well. This rod fits in my backpack, truck, or suitcase.
The rod casts well in the wind, and fishes great from a float tube. For the price, with reel & line included, and case, this is a great rod combo set. I was able to trade the Clearwater III reel to a buddy who is just starting to fly fish."

"It needs a lineup mark when putting pieces together.
Why is the pouch for the reel made of clear plastic and not completely from the green cloth?"

Great Rod!,
August 13, 2012
By: RiverSong
from East Tennessee
"I bought the Streamline over one year ago. Living on a River, I have fished with that rod at least twice a week if not every day since. I have caught trout, smallmouth bass, bluegill, and rock bass. This rod has not only survived my learning curve as a brand new fly fisher, but it has also easily and delicately placed a size 20 dry fly on one day and then on another day just as easily tossed a size 6 heavily weighted Streamer.
I did try two competitors' rods before I bought this one. There is truly no comparison. In writing this review, I wonder if I would have enjoyed this last year of fly fishing (or even stuck with it) had I not chosen an Orvis rod. While it now has some nicks and scratches from the countless hours on the river, it is still going strong. I have had absolutely no problems with the rod (or reel).
If you want a great start for your new life as a fly fisherman, you cannot go wrong with this Streamline. Thank you Orvis for making a high quality rod and reel that fit my budget!
The photo is of a 3.5 lb smallmouth I caught on the Streamline with 5x tippet.

First fly rod,
August 11, 2012
By: Bigsarge
from Shelby, N.C.
"I purchased this rod combo after taking the Fly fish 101 class. I practiced in the yard a few weeks and then I took the Flyfish 201 class. through it all this rod has never failed me.I have also taken a rather long casting class with this combo and all the instructors have stated that this is a good combo to start with. Since I have caught bass, blue gills, and trout. Never had a problem. I like this combo so well that it "lives" in my truck so that on the way home from work, I can "sneak" off and fish at the local state park."

A satisfied beginner!,

By: Keoni

"This is my first fly rod outfit and after a day on the Rappahannock River practicing my casting techniques I am very satisfied. I Did not expect to catch anything while practicing but somehow the bass, crappie and shad managed to get my hook in its mouth."
