"Backing is the Rodney Dangerfield of fly fishing equipment. It gets no respect. It's there but almost never gets called upon to function. This backing is functional and I get to support a good company. I need no more."

"Needed backing (12lb) for a new 4wt. Looked at all the local "outdoor" stores and all I could find was 20 & 30lb . Found it with Orvis on line.
Already have this on a couple of other reel's and it has stood up well. Just wish it came in more then white."

"Purchased two spools to load up a new large arbor Salt Water 9/10wt reel and spare arbor. I was able to fit 300yds on each with the fly line (one float, one intermediate). Backing was easy to spool by myself and easy to tie. Had no problems with knotting, tangles, or twisting. Got the backing in the clearence outlet for a great price, couldn't be happier."

"Orvis backing is a standard. It is what they say it is. When the big one takes your fly and goes into the backing you realize that your very expensive line is out there. Good backing is insurance."
