Barbour® Classic Sylkoil Hood
Made of Barbour's waterproof midweight waxed cotton, this optional rain hood snaps on to Barbour's Classic Beaufort and Bedale jackets. Hood adjusts with a drawcord and toggles to keep out rain and wind. Men's rain hood comes in olive (lined in Classic Tartan). One size. Specially treated 100% waxed cotton shell. Lining: 100% cotton. Clean hood with cold sponge, no soap. Imported.

"After reading other reviews, I was concerned that the hood would be too small for my large head. However, the hood is more than ample for me, coming well forward of my brow. The large Barbour logo and Made In Tunisia tag (both large with contrasting white lettering) which read right side up on the inside of the hood when the hood is pulled back, and is visible to those behind, is sewn on & easily removed. All the attachment snaps are solid, properly located & secure. A fine & handy addition to my Beaufort jacket. Let it rain!"

"A gift for my husband who already had the Barbour classic coat. It was a perfect match and now with hood he wears it as his main rain jacket. Snaps on and off easily for when it is raining. Very happy with purchase. A pleasant surprise was to see the Barbour label upside down inside hood, so when hood is laying down, from behind, it reads Barbour upright. Clever design!"

"I have a brown Bedale Classic jacket and thought that it looked like it was missing a hood.
I hesitated to buy the hood because i was unsure if the color match. The hood is listed as olive color.
The color match turned out to be very close. The hood completes the jacket and adds warmth when needed.
The only odd thing is that some of the snaps do not hold and it needs to be re-snapped often."

"I bought my first Barbour coat this year. It is the most practical and comfortable coat I have ever owned. Totally waterproof in any weather. So I bought the hood to complete the raincoat. But the snaps are too loose. I exchanged it for another and there was no improvement. I wrote to Barbour but they haven't responded. Orvis was happy to exchange or refund."

"I bought this to go with my Gamefair coat. The hood is too short. It just is and needs to be longer/taller. When I put it up the front doesn't come out far enough and it seems to pull down on the top of my head. I haven't had this with any other hood before.
The hood has a wire along the outside edge so you can shape it. This also means that you may need to reshape it occasionally when you put your coat on if it got bent while your coat was off otherwise it won't lay down correctly on your back. Not a big deal but something to consider.
The Gamefair page on Orvis' site does not list a recommended hood. If you have a Gamefair then this is the hood to get. Sykoil does look slightly different than Durawax but not by much. Both are olive and will look the same after the first relaxing (as a Barbour stockiest assured me). The lining is the same as the Gamefair also.
I wish this hood came out further over my head but I do appreciate the convenience of having it and do not regret the purchase."

"I am very pleased with the hood that goes to my Jacket. I am really happy with the jacket. I like the idea of the snaps rather then a zipper which I always have difficulty with. I certainly would recommend the hood to go along coat."

"I love the new coat and came back to purchase the hood. 4 stars for what could have been 5 b/c of the following --there was no explanation about the possible color difference between coat and hood. Per my online customer service chat; this is common b/c of the waxing/treatment. In my case, it is/was an extreme difference in color between hood and coat and it would have been better to know at outset."

"An excellent complement to the jacket I purchased. I am getting very good use out of it a the moment at our temperature is minus 20 celcius with the wind chill factor. The hood and the coat are virtually completely windproof - Very helpful."

"I have the Barbour jacket which I purchased at Orvis. I love the jacket but it really needed a hood when it rains. I finally saw it on the Orvis website and treated myself to it. I don't know why I waited so long to buy it. Orvis is my favorite online shop....I am retired and it seems that if Orvis doesn't have it, I don't need it. Thanks Orvis!"

"I have had my Barbour jacket for two years now and I just ordered this hood as a needed accessory. It buttons on to the jacket and is the same fabric and finish. It looks like it has been on the jacket forever.

"we bought a barbour classic beau coat in store in dallas and were told that we could order hood for it i ordered hood and it did not match i took it back to store and they said that they haven't made a hood to match the coat we bought wish they would have told us that and we properly would not have bought the coat they said that maybe they will have the hood sometime in spring, which does not help us this winter."

"i couldn't imagine having a barbour coat without a lining and this snap on hood. One day during an ice storm, i was walking through an old forest . the only other person i saw that day had on what looked like a Barbour coat and a waxed hat. I was soaking wet. After that, i bought a Barbour coat and this snap on hood. yes, you can buy synthetic raingear that will do the job, but they don't have the feel of a Barbour coat. This is like armor for the worst storms. With the right treatment, they'll last a liftetime. My only regret is that I didn't buy a size larger than my jacket size. I'd recommend to anyone to buy one size larger so you could wear it with a warm sweater or even a suit. And whether you buy blue or green, you've made a nice choice for years to come. this is a must have wherever it gets wet and cold."
