Barbour® Classic Bedale Jacket
This waterproof jacket for men is a British country classic, made of Barbour's midweight Sylkoil waxed cotton for a shine-free, broken-in look. Jacket has a zip-front style with snap-front placket, two roomy front flap pockets with snap closures, two handwarmer pockets, and a corduroy collar. Add a hood or zip-in liner whenever the weather calls for it. This waterproof jacket is a true competitor to nasty weather. Lined in Barbour's Classic Tartan cotton. In olive. Waxed cotton. "My brand new Barbour Bedale jacket arrived the day after I returned from the holiday vist with children and grand children. In an effort to "spiff" up her dad, My dqaughter had insisted that I order the handsome Olive green Bedale. Consider me "spiffed". Although I have only worn it a few times and cold weather is just now arriving in MS, I really like the look and the warmth. I owe my daugher a big "Thank You" for her fashion advice!"

"Though I was a little put off by the price tag, I took the plunge on this jacket anyway. I have owned other waxed cotton garments, such as Filson, so I knew that you indeed get what you pay for.
I like the Sylkoil cotton that this jacket is made of, and the handwarmer pockets are exceptional. The fabric of the jacket is pliable and resists wrinkling well, all the while looking good and keeping wind and rain/snow out. Immediately after getting this jacket, a blizzard blew in and I spent about an hour moving snow outside the house. The jacket kept me dry and breathed well preventing moisture buildup on my upper body.
I also purchased the button on hood with the wire insert which is made form the same material. It falls flat on the back when not in use, and I highly recommend it."

"The wax finish on the jacket makes it wind and water proof as well as thorn resistant. While I use the jacket primarily in an urban setting, it has proved to be a great coat for travelling in the brush and timber. I love the large pockets, length of the coat and its overall appearance. This coat is all that I have ever hoped it would be. It will only get better with time."

"I considered both a tin cloth field/hunting coat and the Bedale. I chose the Bedale for casual use and the other for hunting. While I'm certain the Bedale can survive some upland hunting trips, it's better suited for casual wear. It's perfect for 3 seasons. The left sided zipper is a nod to Barbour's heritage and I would not change it. It's just one feature that makes it classic and timeless. The warm, softly lined chest pockets are perfectly placed. The snap flap waist pockets provide ample storage. The oversized ringed gold zipper is distinct and easy to operate wearing gloves. I also purchased the classic tartan nylon liner. It complements the jacket. I would not hesitate to buy another Barbour product."

"I purchased a Classic Bedale from the Orvis location near Michigan Avenue in Chicago in Fall 2007. I was looking for a classically-styled weatherproof jacket that I could wear over a couple of layers. This jacket is now in its fifth year of service and I am extremely pleased. My Classic Bedale jacket can stand up to the worst winter weather in the Midwest. Not only does it shed rain and snow, it looks sharp doing it. I've had it rewaxed a couple of times and I've had one of the pockets repaired (torn due to my negligence). The customer support I received from Barbour USA was outstanding on each occasion. Bottom line: if you want an heirloom-quality jacket that will shrug off the worst you can throw at it and look good at the same time, the Classic Bedale is that jacket."

"Wanting a parka/rainy weather coat, the Barbour Bedale seemed to be a good choice. I was not disappointed in the least; it holds to the high quality workmanship I've come to find is a Barbour hallmark. It seems light enough to wear until summer. Make sure that you also invest in the snap-on hood.
Note that 'classic' Barbour outerwear has a boxy fit. I normally wear a 36 in men's suiting; sizing down to a 34 and found a perfect fit (even with a sweater/shirt/t-shirt layer underneath)."

"I have never purchased a Barbour item before, but wanted an outer jacket that was good for rain, but also for any other situation with cool weather. A jacket for all purposes. This is a great jacket, and functions well for everywhere I go. The material is a little stiffer than gortex, but I think it is warmer. I agree with others that the zipper is left handed, and I would change it if I designed the jacket, but you get used to it pretty quickly."

"After a number of years of debating on weather I wanted to spend the money to by my first Barbour jacket I finally took the plunge. I will admit the this jacket is one of the most expensive items in my closet, but it is worth every penny.
Overall I really have enjoying my new Bedale and have received a lot of complements from friends and family. I have worn the jacket primary around town and for one hunt and I was very impressed with performance.
One thing to mention is that I purchased the liner and as the Orvis associate advised I wouldn't need it here in VA, but I bought it anyway. He was right, while it does get cold here during the winter months the jacket is more than enough to keep me toasty.
The fit of the jacket is very nice. I am bit on the shorter side and I tried on a couple different styles and the Bedale fit me best primary because of the length of the jacket and sleeves. Also, the jacket provides plenty of room for mobility and for space needed when wearing a sweater or heavy base layer.
I am looking forward to enjoying many years of wearing the jacket!"

"There is just something special about this jacket. It breathes great, is totally waterproof and is simply comfortable to wear. It is now my go to jacket any time i'm heading outdoors. The hood is great for rainy days and I add the liner for cold weather. I could not be more satisfied!"

"I received this jacket as a Christmas gift. I absoluely love the look and feel of the jacket. From a comfort standpoint, it is hard to beat. I will admit having the zipper on the left side is somewhat different and a little difficult to get used to, but a fantastic jacket overall."

"This is everything described & more! It is constrructed to last a life time. Briars, tree branches, jumping labs, rain & cold wind are no match for the tough exterior. I like the shorter length getting in & out of a vehicle. The collar design takes the place of a scarf on cold, windy days. I usually do not care for cold, damp days; the Bedale makes them tolerable!"

"love the new Classic Bedale I got to replace an old Beaufort! It's a little different from the Beaufort - it's a little shorter, it doesn't have the large back game pocket or the wallet pocket. But it does have an inner pocket and I like the inner stretch cuffs better than the velcro and I really never used the game pocket anyway. I think the Bedale fits a woman better than the Beaufort, esp if you're on the shorter side. Also love the fabric and color in the Classic - it's not as shiny and has more brown to it than the sage in the Regular; really nice! Can't wait for some inclement cool weather!"

"My first Barbour jacket was a hand me down from my grandfather. That was 24 years ago and I still have it. As it is still in great condition considering it's age, I purchased a new one and I am pretty sure it will last the rest of my life. An absolute unbelievable jacket!"

"I just purchased the Classic Bedale Jacket (on-line) and look forward to wearing it when the weather permits. The jacket is great except for the fact that the zipper is backwards for American men. When I contacted Barbour about the zipper, I was told that it is their tradition to have the zipper this way. Apparently, in the old days, the aristocracy had servants to zip their coats so the zipper is in the correct position when facing the wearer. Since I don’t have a servant, I suggested to Barbour that they change the zipper for coats sold in the U.S. I don’t expect that to happen any time soon. However, the person I spoke to said that, for a fee, I could return the jacket Barbour and they would change the zipper for me. Since I already spent too much for the coat, I declined. ."

"This is a true classic with a great fit that's not too long and looks sporty. Keep it waxed and no water will get through and the hood and liner are excellent additions, making it a year round proposition. The best thing about Barbour jackets is that the older they are, the better they look. Highly recommended although a little pricey."
