Review 2 for Helios™ 2-weight 8'4" Fly Rod—Mid Flex

"I originally bought the 842-4 for backcountry fishing for 6-10" brookies in the backcountry. It was a lot of fun catching those little brookies on this rod but I felt like I had plenty enough backbone if I happened to hook into a bigger fish. So, I took it a few times in place of my 4 weight B2X Winston. I was very pleased with the results. Of course it would lay down a dry fly with the utmost delicasy but it could also fire out conehead streamers, big terrestials, hopper droppers, and even a dual beadhead rig with a little casting adjustment of course. I've fished this rod heavily for the past two years, nearly retiring the 4# Winston and this year I was lucky enough to get to test it on a couple of bigger fish. To date, I've landed 3 fish over 20" on this rod, the largest of which being 23". So, hats off Orvis. You can't beat this rod for weight, presentation, versatility, and backbone."

Review 3 for Helios™ 2-weight 8'4" Fly Rod—Mid Flex
"This 2 weight rod is so unbelievably light yet packs a pretty good punch. For a small stream with close quarters or spooky fish, it casts long, and with the light line it is very inobtrusive. I was surprised at how well it stood up to a little wind. While it is a lighter rod, the line is smaller and has less wind resistence as well. In close quarters, it will cast completely side arm to deliver the fly under over hanging brush. And, when you hook up, it is a lot of fun with smaller fish, but like the other Helios rods, you feel that you have plenty of power to handle them. The grip was finished in a cigar shape, which is very well suited to handling the smaller rod. I think this rod is a lot of fun and would recommend it highly as a small stream addition."

Review 4 for Helios™ 2-weight 8'4" Fly Rod—Mid Flex
"I OWN 7 HELIOS RODS, INCLUDING THE 6' ION 2 WT. AND I ALSO OWN THE TROUT BUM SUPERFINE 1 WT. ROD AS WELL AS A SAGE TRIPLE OUGHT ROD. I WANTED TO TRY THIS ROD, SO I ORDERED IT. THE LIGHT LINE RODS HAVE ALWAYS INTRIGUED ME AND THERE SEEMS TO BE TWO OPINIONS ON RODS LIGHTER THAN 3 WEIGHTS. ONE CAMP LOVES THE SUB-3 WEIGHT CATEGORY AND THE OTHER(MAJORITY) DOES NOT BELIEVE IN THEM AT ALL. I'M STILL TORN. I DON'T KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT THEM MYSELF. THEY SEEM TO NOT BE VERY PRACTICAL, ESPECIALLY WITH NORMAL-SIZED FLIES. I HAVE TO SAY THAT I LAWN CAST THIS ROD SEVERAL TIMES AND IT IS REALLY NICE WITH A 2 WT. LINE. IT IS A TRUE 2 WT. WITH A VERY SOFT TIP AND NICE MID-FLEX, ALMOST FULL-FLEX ACTION FOR A HELIOS. I FOUND MYSELF HAVING TO SLOW DOWN MY CASTING STROKE. I REALLY LIKED THE ROD, HOWEVER, I HAVE THE HELIOS 843-4 MID, AND I FOUND IT MUCH EASIER TO CAST THAN THE 842-4. HOWEVER, THE 842-4 WAS BETTER, WITH ITS SOFTER TIP AND FLEX RATING, AT SHORT CASTS THAN THE 843-4. THE LENGTH(8' 4") OF THIS 2 WT. FELT LONG AND SOFT FOR ME. I THINK THAT THIS ROD IS A VERY SPECIALTY ROD, LIKE THE DESCRIPTION SAYS, FOR THE LARGER SPRING CREEKS. GREAT FOR SPOOKY FISH AND CLEAR WATER. OVERALL, I REALLY LIKED THE ROD, BUT I JUST WASN'T SURE ENOUGH ABOUT IT, TO KEEP IT. A 7' 9" (ULTRAFINE) LENGTH WOULD BE MORE COMFORTABLE FOR ME, BUT I THINK IN THE RIGHT HANDS AND IN THE RIGHT FISHING SITUATION, THIS ROD WOULD BE IDEAL. I ALSO LOVE THE SUPERFINE OVERWRAP ON THE FRONT OF THE GRIP. I STILL GIVE IT 5 STARS!"
