Re-Reviewed After 3 Years,
February 20, 2013
By: deepsouthflyfisher
"I gave this watch a 5 star review several years ago as southernflyfisher, and it's time to update the review. After 1 year the watch stopped functioning correctly. I did not wear it for a year, and a month ago decided to send it in for repair. It was a gift from my wife and engraved, and I really liked the watch. In short, Orvis replaced it with a second rate version of the original. The engraving on the back looks terrible, the watch band is very, very long and the quality seems poor. And, I may be wrong, but the size of the watch itself seems smaller. In short, given all of the issues with setting the time and date, and then the 24 hour hand getting out of sync, I would not recommend this watch to anyone. I won't be using this replacement, I wish they had just repaired the old one and sent it back for sentimental value."

disappointed in watch,
January 9, 2013
By: hardtogetittoaccept
from Davis, CA
"First time I ordered from them and my perception was it was "quality stuff".
Hoped for more in the watch, has the features I wanted, looks good, feels cheap, -- mechanism is poor, 24 hour hand isn't very accurate, mechanism is "loose", day number window very small, doesn't glow as much in the dark as hoped.
Wished they put more into the watch and less in the box it came in -- someone's got their priorities reversed.
Overall very disappointed."

Oh well,

"One can only expect so much from a watch at this price. You be the judge: The hour hand is fairly loose, so you are never quite sure if it is 4 or 5 o'clock. The watch band is large enough to go around a forearm and would be tricky to try and modify. That said it does seem to keep time."

I tried hard to like this watch,
November 29, 2012
By: Timetraveler
"After scooping a few rainbows out of a Montana stream, I found moisture under the crystal of the watch. Thanks to Orvis' lifetime warantee, I exchanged it at my local Orvis dealer, no issues with that.
But I went snorkeling in Oahu last week and the same thing happened, plus the stem corroded off.
I really liked this watch, but it is not really a field watch, water resistant to 30 meters."

"This is an excellent second watch for the price. The only issue I have is that the luminescent hands and numbers do not glow in the dark. Overall, it's a very nice watch."

A Bargain,
September 5, 2012
By: wilsonja01
from New York, NY
"I'm an old-style guy. I like wearing a watch in order to know the time time. Don't like digital, don't want to pull out and check my phone, and I don't want the watch to tell me the day, the water depth, or point me to magnetic north. This a simple timepiece that's easy to read, and thus far (after the first month), has shown itself to be waterproof, keep time, and be relatively comfortable to wear. I can't really ask for much more than that. Orvis might consider a different band for the field watch in the future, but maybe they've got a reason for the bulk on this one. All-in-all, a reasonably good value for the price."

Nice looking but band TOO LONG,
June 7, 2012
By: disneydad4
from Fort Myers FL
"AS some have complained about before the band is too long. I am 5'11'' and 5/8(just couldn't get that extra 3/8 inch) and 170 lbs. Not exactly tiny. I put another hole in band myself and could use another but cutting the end off is just out of the question so it sticks out up at you from your wrist. Too bad. I'm going to wear it in pool on Hawaii trip and places but wished it were shorter. My old ironman watch is not this way"

"I like the looks of the Guide Field Watch, but it is not waterproofed as advertised. I have significant condensation under the glass, and I do not swim or dive with it on."

Great watch,
December 29, 2011
By: Nana1963
"This was a Christmas present for my husband who travels quite a bit. He loves the watch. The band is light and very comfortable. It is waterproof so he never has to take it off. It lights up well at night and he doesn't need his glasses to see the time.
He loves his gift!!!

The second time zones does not work,
November 23, 2011
By: BDFE
from Minot, ND
"I specifically purchased this watch for the second time zone feature. I found that setting the second time zone was difficult. After following the directions several times I was unable to get the second time zone to keep accurate time. However the 12 hour display kept perfect time.
Also in the 1st postion I was unable to set the hour and minute, not sure is this is normal but difficult to get an accurte set time. Not sure if the watch is broke or this is normal.

BIG watch,
November 8, 2011
By: kmary
from Richmond, British Columbia
"Although this very simple looking design is exactly what my husband was looking for, and he really likes the numbers as apposed to markings and the rubber strap is perfect for a guy that has his arm in a stream sometimes the only issue with it was the strap was SUPER long and although he is 6'1" and 230 lbs the strap on the tightest still swims on him and we will have to buy a new strap for it."
