Best I've seen.,
January 18, 2013
By: Wass1
from Bakersfield, CA
"Started tying 20 years ago and my books are old and don't discuss new materials so I wanted one that discussed synthetics. I was surprised at the quality of the photos and step-by-step instruction. The complilation of flies are the standard greats and not exotics. It is open on my fly table as I write this."

A must have fly tying book,
April 4, 2012
By: Michael1
from Germany
"I would consider me a good tier. Still I admire the most detailed descriptions of all the tying steps. This is why I still come back to this book. I wish they would update it, remove some old pictures and offer it as hard-cover spiral bound version.
Another good book from Tom Rosenbauer.

"I own the older version Fly Tying Guide, but decided to update my library and bought Tom's Guide. He has done justice to fly tying. It is a great beginner's book as well as a fine book for us older folks to refresh our tying skills. A great read with good quality pictures."

"I tried to learn to tie flies on the internet. Don't waste your time. The best way to learn fly tying is the Orvis Fly-Tying Guide. Tom Rosenbauer is a true teacher. When I read the step by step instructions it is like he is sitting there at the table with me. Although I am not an experienced tier, I believe this book has something to offer people at all skill levels."

"I started tying in December. My wife bought me a vise for Christmas and this book. After accumulating the rest of the gear necessary, I got started. This book has been a great source of information for me. It has walked me thru the processes necessary to get the hang of my new passion. While I do not believe it to be the end all, it is a great start. Highly recommend!"

"Simply put this is THE fly tying book to buy. I bought this book when I first began tying and I still find that it is my go to book nearly every time I sit down to tie. This book has excellent photos and detailed instructions that illustrate how to tie several useful flies. Additionally, this book has recipes and high quality photos of hundreds of flies making it a valuable reference. This book truly offers a little something for tying enthusiasts of all skill levels. Tell Santa you want this book."

"Got this book along with several others, and was immediately impressed with several things; first, the photography is simply the best I've seen to date; the patterns listed are all useful, and arranged in a very usable order; the instructions have expanded commentary that all tying books should copy!
This is an EXCELLENT book for beginning and intermediate tyers!
Another gem from Orvis.

By: WisconsinFisherman

"This book is a great book for beginners fly tyers. I had tried several other books and wished that I would have purchased this book first. The other books just show you the techniques on flys you wouldn't normally use where this books has you tie a usefull fly on the first pattern."
