Schroeder's Parachute Hopper

Hopper dry fly fishing is about as good as it gets in the late summer and fall when the grasshoppers are plentiful and the warm winds are blowing them out of the grass into the streams. Fish key in on these big dry flies due to the abundance of calories in one big hopper. On open grassland rivers in the West, there is no better time of the year. Try fishing this very visible parachute dry fly pattern anytime you see hoppers in the grass near rivers. Color, Olive, Tan. Dry fly available in sizes: 8, 10, 12, 14.

"Great fly! Catches fish and trout love this hopper pattern. However, hackle pulls loose and unwinds quickly. NOT tied very well IMO."

Easy to see!,

By: TheBear51
"The fly is well tied with quality materials. The white indicator makes it easy to see on the water.
It attracted trout in early September in Yellowstone. I was glad I had it in my box!"

Parachute hopper,
December 30, 2011
By: Proflyfisher
from Ramapo river. New Jersey
"This fly is great to fish from roll casting tO dead drifting. The flies from or is are always very durable and top quality. During the late summer time, this is a go-to fly for me. I have heard it works on trout but, I have caught more bass than trout on it. It might be the fact that there is more bass than trout by me. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend."

"Landed a 16" fat rainbow on this hopper today in a very small stream that usually yields 10" fish. This hopper coaxed the big one out!"

"During late summer when temperatures are humid and evening breezes flush hoppers from the shoreline into the river; this pattern replicates the silloutte of a hopper at rest.
The post aids in easy tracking of the fly under such conditions as hazy fog or during twilight. Roll casting this fly and letting it sit for at least 30 seconds is key in illiciting strikes from fish that might be wairy of a twitch/pick up lay down presentation.
TIP: Grease the leader/tippit section and apply generously dry fly floatant to keep this fly from being washed under current. After 30 seconds skate in 'long' strips to leave a wake in the film that is sure to reverberate throughout the pool."
