"I have a Volkswagen Touareg and this pet barrier fits perfect. simple to install, took 3 minutes tops! great how it mounts to headrest posts so you don't waste any cargo space. I read in previous reviews how it wouldn't fit if you had 3 headrests, well i have 3 and as long as they all are adjustable i had no problems at all. This barrier is sturdy, expensive looking and not too bulky. Would recommend 100%."

Another model it won't work with,

"Add Subaru Forester (2009) to the list of SUVs this product does not work with. The center headrest adjusts so I thought I was fine when I read the reviews. The problem is that there is a small handle on top of the middle seat and so the rod can't be placed.
I wish Orvis would find something that did work as well."

"This barrier is just what was needed for my small hatchback. I now feel that my two dogs are safely in the back and I can see well all around. It was easy to install and just attaches to the head rests. The bucket seats do need to be level with each other. Great product."

Great Dog Barrier,
January 1, 2010
By:
YellowandGreyDogsfrom Denver,CO
"Doesn't rattle. Doesn't use the ceiling or sides to secure. Doesn't block the rearview mirror. Because it is installed to the headrests, the dogs have more room than other barriers we researched. Additionally, installation was quick and easy. I would recommend this product to all of my friends that have dogs."

"Now my husband wants one, now that he has seen how well it has worked out. We both have Hyundai SUVs and were initially bringing our German Shepard pup around in our back seat with your "hammmock" seat cover...Now, the same seat cover has been adapted to the cargo area in my SUV, along with the cargo barrier, PERFECT!!!...and now my husband wants to do the same and wants to know where I got it!!"

"AFTER BEING BACKORDERED I RECIEVED PET BARRIER IN A TIMELY MANNER. PRODUCT IS SOLID WITH NO RATTLES, VERY IMPORTANT TO ME. IT WORKS GREAT. I HAVE AN INFINITY QX4. ONE SMALL PROBLEM WAS THAT SOME OF THE EXTENTION RODS WERE RUSTED. I CALLED RIGHT AWAY AND ORVIS HAD NO HESSITATION IN SENDING ME NEW EXTENTION RODS AT NO CHARGE. VERY PLEASED SO FAR. WILL PURCHASE MORE PRODUCTS FROM THIS COMPANY."

Great Barrier for SUV,
May 11, 2009
By:

"As mentioned in another review, this barrier has a flat, straight bar that goes between the rear seat headrests. I have a 2005 Expedition with a non-removable middle seat headrest, which would normally mean this product would not fit properly.
I ordered this to see if it was easily adaptable. To keep it structurally sound, no, it's not easily adaptable to a vehicle with a middle seat headrest. HOWEVER, the Expedition middle seat can move forward. If you can live with the middle seat a few inches forward of the other two back seats, this barrier will fit, and the seats will still block the dogs below the barrier.
Bottom line, if your middle seat is flat, or can move forward so there is a flat line between the rear seat headrests, this is a great barrier. If your middle seat is fixed, you may be better off with a different product.
It's unfortunate that the manufacturer does not make bracket extensions available for this barrier, A 2-3" rear offset would do it. If BICE did that, it would truly be universal, and outstanding."

NO GOOD FOR LG. SUV,
May 7, 2009

"Looked great, installed easily in my 2009 Chevy Suburban. Was excited to try the 1 1/2 yr old labs out riding in the back instead of on my lap. They busted through in 5 minutes!! The extension rods are not long enough or strong enough (completely bent) to withhold strong dogs nor are they a good size for a larger SUV. I'm dissappointed but will keep looking!"

"The Cargo Barrier fits like a glove in our 4Runner. After talking with friends and looking around at all the damage that the floor to ceiling barriers can do, I set this barrier up in less than 5 minutes. It doesn't rattle, shake or best yet, let our dog through. We finally have something to stop our lab! She has been Houdini and figured out how to beat everything else we have tried. Thanks Orvis!"

Doesn't fit any vehicle w/rear headrests as advert,
March 22, 2009
By:
Anonymousfrom Chicago Burbs
"Just received this barrier as it was backordered for a few weeks. While it is evrything I wanted in a barrier it does not install on a split/bench rear seat if you have a "dog-ear" extension of the seat sticking up veritically immediately adjacent to the middle seat belt as is the case with Ford Explorers. It is impossible to install if there is anything preventing direct access to the headrest risers. On the plus side it is a well configured and well made barrier which doesn't goof up your interior roof or cargo floor. It does fit perfectly if I install it behind the headrests of the front seat which gives your pets the entire cargo area to lounge in however that wasn't my porpose and that also leaves the space below the barrier and above the center console open as a an escape route. I didn't think thta was much of an issue for either of my two large dogs until this morning when I found a very muddy Mastiff sitting in my drivers seat after a romp in the woods. If this barrier will install in your vehicle I highly recommend it Check the design of the rear seat headrests before ordering though as it does not fit "...any vehicle with rear headrests." An optional verttical accessory to install over the console would be something I'd buy if offered. Again, this is a well engineered/designed and sturdy product if it works for you. Now I have to decide whether to keep it with it's limitations or return it and keep looking.

"I have a Mercedes Benz ML320 and this thing fit like a glove. It took about 5 minutes to install and is sturdy and unbelievable! In my previous vehicle (Rover LR3) I had the dealership install a doggie barrier for my two labs and it cost around $400. This one is the bargain of the century and it looks really good in my new car. My poochies poke their noses through the cracks but cannot get into the back seat. I cannot say enough about this gadget!"

Best dog barrier,

"I have a Rav4 SUV and have been looking for a dog barrier for two years. I wanted one that doesn't take up much room, yet is strong and easy to install. My husband has one that goes from floor to ceiling, but his cargo area is bigger than mine and it also tends to slip out of place. Then I saw this one and measured to be sure that my head rests could be raised enough to accommodate it. It arrived last week and took a total of 5 minutes to get it out of the box and install it in my car. What a breeze! It is sturdy and solid and I can easily remove it if I need to."

Perfect cargo barrier,
February 7, 2009
By:
mtdogownerfrom billings mt
"We have an Acura MDX. Other barriers require mounts that had to be applied to the car or supports that held the gate in place by applying pressure to the roof liner and floor. Neither option was ideal (and my cargo area has the scars to prove it....).
This took me 5 minutes to install, fits my car perfectly and is tight as a drum so no rattles. The only possible issue I can see is that there is about 1/2 inch of very light contact with the top of my rear seat by the mounting bar. I can't imagine this will cause any damage but I'd rather not raise the headrest to the next stop in order to eliminate it."

A Great Product - Just not for a Jeep Commander,
January 24, 2009
By:

"Although I love this particular product, it doesn't work with a Jeep Commander. In a Commander, the back seat headrests do not adjust, and thus, the product cannot be attached. I am still looking for something that will work with my Boykin Spaniel and Jeep Commander!
I wish Orvis would develop a list of cars that this particular product doesn't work with - it seems like there are a few I have heard of!"

We have a winner!,

"I have purchased and returned three barriers to different pet stores, all because the minimum height exceeded the space allowed in my car (a 2009 Subaru Hatchback). I was just about to give up when I saw this barrier and it is wonderful if you have a low ceiling or the ceiling curves down towards the rear of the car. You can take the top extension piece off (for later use in another larger car) and it fits securely on the rear of the back seat where the headrests are. So you don't have to have a barrier behind the seat where you don't need it. It just barricades the top between the seat and the ceiling of your car. No holes or tears in the roof of the car and you can have it off and on in seconds. It looks great too. My Bouvier started working her way from the hatchback to the driver's seat everytime I left her alone and then I had to be careful that she didn't jump out of the car when I returned and opened the door. Those days are gone! Thanks to the staff at the Buffalo Orvis store. They are great, especially the Fishing Manager Adam"

"Great price, very easy to install. I have a 2003 Land Rover Discovery and a 27 pound Jack Russell Terrier. He's not small by any means, but really doesn't like to ride in "doggy jail". As we feared, the second ride he took wth the new barrier in, he figured out a way to get himself through the hole at the bottom on the sides where there is not a horizontal bar reaching all the way to the side or window. If I had a bigger dog - or a more sedate one - this would probably work better."

Does NOT fit "any vehicle with rear head rest",
January 4, 2009
By:
henry07
"Bought this for our Volvo XC90 as it seemed like a great solution for keeping our dog safe in the back. Unfortunately it doesn't work with our SUV. What the description doesn't tell you is you need at least 1 1/3 inches of clearance between the seat and the headrest and for the headrest posts to be straight up and down. It just won't fit in our vehicle. Although Orvis will let us return it for a refund, we lost over $20 in back and forth shipping. Check your headrests before buying."

"This is a great product for wagons. We have a Jetta Sportwagon. Installation was simple and quick; the barrier is surprisingly sturdy and doesn't obstruct rear vision. It keeps both our Lab mix (55 bs), and our Westie (11 lbs) safely in the back. I would highly recommend this product to anyone with a wagon."
