"As stated by several reviewers, I found that a properly sized small/medium for my Brittany ended up with the slide buckle in the middle of the phone number. This appears to be a high quality collar, but the purpose is defeated by the size adjustment. Orvis did graciously agree to take it back (for a shipping fee)."

"We have 3 of these collars for our 2 dogs and they are great. They do start to smell for dogs that swim, so we ordered a second one to help with that. The black color did fade but the yellow and blue ones still look good. Having a cell phone number on the collar reassures us that even when we travel, in the event of an escape, we could be reached by phone. Our dogs are both over 50 pounds and wear medium sizes so it runs on the generous side."

"The overall quality of this collar is excellent and is commensurate with the reputation of Orvis. We like the appearance, sturdy construction, ease of operation and attractive stitching. However, all comments regarding difficulty with sizing are indeed accurate. In order to properly size the small/medium collar for our 39 lb. standard poodle, whose neck measures 14.5", her name becomes obscured. This is disappointing and obviates the purpose of personalization! This design flaw makes this collar inappropriate for smaller dogs. Surely this could be remedied by offering a smaller size/shorter length?"

"I really like the idea of these collars. They have a name and a phone number on them. I ordered two for my jack russel terriers. The problem is that the small/medium is really a medium. Even when I cinch it down as small as possible, it still slips off of their heads when they pull back. On several occasions when I have been on a walk with them, they have pulled right out of the collar. I wish the sizing information had been more detailed. Otherwise, the collar is great."

"I got this collar in pink, with "service dog" written on it. I need my dog to be identifiable as a service dog even when she is not in vest, like when we are just going for a regular walk and something happens.
For the most part I like this collar. I have two main problems:
1. when adjusted for my dog's neck, the buckle that adjusts the collar's size is in middle of the writing. That would be fine if it was a phone number that I really don't want anyone to read. But it isn't a phone number. It is an important message. I don't know if the smaller size would be too small.
2. The paint is coming off the ring that holds the tags. Now the area where the ring sometimes folds toward the collar is a bit blackened. I would rather my service dog collar not be dirty.
I do like the bright color. I chose pink to help people identify her as a female.
If I were to choose different collar I would probably lean toward something reflective for safety. Other good features are: easy to clean, dries quickly, strong, and able to be personalized,"

"I was very excited to buy 2 new personalized collars for my 2 miniature schnauzers so when I got them I started sizing them right away. The problem is that when you cinch them down to their size the name and number is hidden under the cinching bar. They are made for small to medium but obviously the small obscures the name which is the whole purpose of getting these collars. I ask if they could look at them when they got back because there is plenty of room at the front of the collar to do it on but I was told that the machines can customize and embroider at a different place. I was very let down that Orvis could not do this."

"We have used adjustable dog collars on our three miniature Schnauzers since they were puppies. I decided to purchase new collars from Orvis because I thought Orvis collars would be higher quality. Well, yes, they are very nice collars, but the Small/Medium size is so large that, even when adjusted to the smallest size, the dogs can slip right out of them.
Orvis should make it clearer on the web page that these collars are good for LARGE breeds only!"

"I bought this collar over a year ago for my 3 year old lab mix. It has held up so well -- even with weekly washings to remove the mud he rolls in! It has retained it's bright blue collar and solid black stitched letters despite me soaking it every Saturday night in Shout Advanced Stain Removing gel! I also love that it eliminates the need for a noisy, hanging, metal name tag that can get caught in carpet fibers, etc and actually trap the dog. I like this collar so much that I ordered him another one to limit my collar washings and also ordered 2 bright pink ones for the new puppy. I love this product!"

"I ordered two of the side buckle personalized collars. The large would fit a horse not a Golden Retriever!! I don't know what kind of dog would fit in this huge collar. You have to adjust by doubling it and then the phone number is obscured. Same problem with the Sm/Medium for my standard Dachshund. Now that I look through the reviews I see quite a few people returned their collars for the same reason. It's great that the return service is good and that the collars are nice, but, why doesn't Orvis just fix the sizing problem instead of dealing with all these returns. It's a waste of nice collars."

"I have (3) dogs, and this is a horrible collar. It slides and doesn't keep the fit your want. Also, it's larger than you might expect, so after adjusting it, you can't see the name or phone number. I ordered (2) larges for my German Shepherds, and a medium for my cattle dog, and both are way too big. My dogs are approx. 80 lbs for the Shepherds, and 50 lbs for the cattle dog, and the collars were too big. The buckle collar is much better quality!!! The stitching is also better quality and bigger on the buckle type collar."

"I carefully measured all four of my dogs prior to ordering. Their neck sizes were 17.5 to 19 inches so I ordered the Small/Medium. All were too small. My dogs are mixed breeds, weight ranging from 48 to 67 lbs. I loved the collars and am reordering the larger size."
