We have our bed back!,

"Our 55lb dog had to be on our bed every night scrunched right in between us. It felt like we had a bag of sand in our bed, and it was difficult to stretch out or turn during the night. I read the reviews and was seaching for a bed that would provide him with the same sense of security and comfort. I ordered this double bagel bed based on other's feedback and the site's suggestions IT WORKS!!! It took only one night to train him, but he now goes right into the bed everynight! I ordered a medium and it fits him perfectly. Thanks for a great product! Only downside was that the time between order date and actual ship date seemed longer than necessary since product showed as in stock."

Fantastic bed. Highly recommended!,

"I purchased this bed about a week ago, and couldn't be happier. I don't normaly write reviews, but thought I would share my experience with the sizing. This bed does run big. We purchased a Large for our 70lb weimaraner. Now, seeing the actual size, we could have gone with a medium but prefer the large because there is plenty of room to add his blanket in there too! I would recommend this bed to anyone!! Enjoy!"

I love this bed!,

"I ordered this bed for my GSP, Genna, in August. She loves it AND I love it. I was having a really difficult time breaking her from sleeping in my bed- she hated sleeping in her old bed. Now she goes right to her own bed (most of the time). It has plenty of cushioning and she snuggles right in! It's also very durable. Genna is rough with everything and this bed is still in one piece. It looks as new as the day it came in the mail!"

Disappointing,
November 4, 2009

"I purchased this bed for my aging dog with hip dysplasia. It looked much thicker in the magazine than it is in person. The inner bed was too small for the outer ring, and when my dog got into it, she ended up falling between the cushion and the outer ring and was lying on the floor anyway! It would have been a greater expense to ship it back, so I bought another (cheaper) bed and stuffed it inside the outer ring to make sure she actually has some substantial cushion under her. Overall, I am disappointed by this product and recommend looking for another bed if a cushion is important to your dog!"

Great bed but beware of colors,

"I bought this bed to place in a colder part of our home. We have numerous Orvis beds, all of which we love, and we were going to give this style a trial run with one dog in particular. If she liked it, we were going to purchase more. The bed is great. Construction is quality. Very cozy. The particular dog this is for, however, is solid white. I chose the barnsley green b/c it appears white/cream and green and usually similar patterns hide the white hair. Sadly, when it arrived, I saw that it is not anything like it appears on the site. It is a muddy brown/green and tan pattern. Even my husband, who is not picky, says it has to go. We will be returning it."

Great Bed,
October 22, 2009

"I have three whippets that share multiple beds. Previous beds were mostly flat (non bolstered). Now that they are all out of their chewing stages, I decided to get a bolstered bed. And from reviews, one guy said he had two Labs and they both fit in the medium size bed. So I got a medium thinking two could share, but my dogs have such long legs, they tend to only lay one in at a time (occasionally two will lay together and squeeze in). If I had it to do over I would get a large. In any case, they LOVE the bed. One dog would not get out of it for the first two weeks for fear one of the other dogs would take it over. They really like laying against the bolster and resting their heads on the bolster. Have washed the bed once and everything comes apart well to wash. The bottom cushion however could have a better way of securing it to the bottom, it tends to flip up. I can probably put some velcro on the cushion or something. But, I can't tell you how much they have loved the bed."

Looks are deceiving,
October 16, 2009

"I purchased the x-large bed about a year ago and it has definitely not lived up to my expectations. I was expecting this bed to be perfect for my 90 lb doberman, at first it seemed great, just like the picture, a nice snuggly bed, but the insert pillow will not stay put, it is now just a bunched up pillow that lays off to the side. And for the bolster sides, they do not stay up like in the photo, I guess because they have no support from an inner mattress, or are not stuffed full enough-they fall in flat or flop out onto the floor. The only plus to this bed was the nice material which washed well. If you have a large dog, I would not recommend this bed- it just does not hold up."

Miracle Bed :),

"This bed is actually too good. My beloved boxer (60 lbs) preferred to sleep lengthwise across my half of the bed. Every morning I would wake up in a ball, while he was sprawled out. I bought this bed for him for Christmas. Now I can't even get him into my bed to snuggle for a couple of minutes! (Guess I can't have it both ways!) I got the Large - and there is easily enough room for another dog of the same size. I haven't had any issues with the size of the inside pillow. It is the perfect bed for our boxer who likes to push up against the back of the couch or curl up behind our legs."

Excellent idea, but.....,
January 8, 2009

"I've just received the double high bagel dog bed. My first impression was that it was a great thing, googd looking and of a high quality. Un fortunatelly after first night I had to change my mind a bit. The idea of the bed is really great, but some minuses relate to the inner cushion which is too small and not enough firm. The inner cushion is cut with no edge height so my dog sleeps with his back on the bare bottom around edges. Maybe the larger cushion ( eg XL for the L bed) would help. The bed is good looking and of a good quality, but this inner cushion is a problem ( I put additional old pillow inside, but it is not exactly what I expected )."

"I just received my xl double high bagel bed in the mail and my 70 lb. greyhound swims in it! It would be great for two greys and the size is essentially the same as a kiddie pool. I need a smaller size for the cozy effect. Quality is great, design is great and the slate is really great in my more modern home - just heads up on the size!"

The Cat Who Loves His Double Bagel,
December 12, 2008
By:
Juddyfrom Columbia, MD
"I have a three and one-half year-old Maine Coon Cat, named "Moee," short for "Moses." For those of you dog people who know something about cats, you will know that Maine Coons are big, sometimes very big; and they grow until they are about five years old. Moee is now about 18 pounds, and measures about 24 inches from the base of his tail to the top of his head. His tail is very long and bushy, and when walking he carries it curled up, like some breeds of dogs do.
Anyway, Moee had a run-of-the-mill dog bed, which, I realized one night, he had grown out of. What to do? I had received the Orvis "Dog Book" in the mail, and so I went on-line to see the full selection of beds. And there it was: the Double-Bagel! I knew immediately that Moee would love it; not only because I knew that being a Jewish cat, he would not be able to resist a DOUBLE bagel, but because of the way it is made.
You see, Moee is one of those cats that likes to go around and around and around before he finds the right spot to settle in, but he also loves, in the middle of a deep sleep, to stretch out full length on his back, with all four feet in the air, as if he is expanding the space between each vertebra. This bed allows him to do both. I did find that he preferred the bed when I smoothed out a couple of white cotton bath-blankets over the sleeping surface to better define his sleeping space; but I believe that such an addition is a "cat thing" and would not matter to dogs. Interestingly, like dogs, he seems to enjoy resting his chin on the bolster so that he can see what's going on while lying down!
One more issue: the size of the bed. Many of the reviewers felt that the bed was over-sized, and that a smaller one would do better than the poundage given in the description. I have to say that while I went back and forth trying to decide between a Medium and a Large, all the Mediums sold out! So, I went with the Large. And do you know what? It's perfect. There's even enough room for his stuffed tiger toy.
Thank you, Orvis, for making such a wonderful dog bed for my cat. I don't think I shall ever tire of watching him settle in so comfortably, hopefully dreaming the sweet dreams that cats do, in which they end up catching the dog!"

"Our boxer recently took over the couch so we decided to upgrade her bed to something she couldn't resist. She didn't like this dog bed at first, it seemed that the inner cushion was too squishy for her liking. We pulled it out and put two old bed pillows in the cusion cover, making it firmer. The bolster provides good support, holds her body in and doesn't collapse. The beds are generously sized, we ordered a large and she only takes up about half of it. In the photo she's laying across the shorter end, but it conforms to her without letting her fall out. We're happy with the purchase and we might be caught napping in it ourselves."

We finally have our bed back!,
December 6, 2008

"Thanks to the other reviews, I was convinced to give this a try--it was expensive but worth every penny. It is probably too big for our 70lb lab-pit (we can literally fit two of her in there) but she LOVES IT and crawled it the second we took it out of the box. We had been struggling with her taking over our bed since we made the mistake of letting her snuggle with us after we brought her home from the shelter in April--she hasn't touched our bed since this arrived. The inner pillow is little weird (smallish), but she doesn't mind a bit."

Almost!!,
November 22, 2008
By:

"Wanted to love this bed but.....
Center cushion is separate (terrific for cleaning of course!) but cut with no edge height, i.e., top and bottom fabric converge to form the edge allowing NO filling, no thickness around the perimeter, forcing filling to clump in center.
Our Deerhounds, sleeping as the dog in catalog pix, end up pretty much spine to essentially unpadded floor with legs and center mass angled up to the center clump filling.
Same thing that happened with the Deep Dish Couch, similar reason, however there the center cushioning and bolster are attached and it was not as "bare bottom" around the edges as the bagel.
NOT a good thing!
If they'd only padded the entire bottom (under bolster too) we'd be there!
P.S. No way is spec'd bolster height functionally accurate. Bolster compresses very readily.
If we hadn't spent so much in return shipping, we'd go back to their excellent "Therapeutic Bolster Bed" with it's truly firm bolster and even bottom thickness."

Great new dog bed!,
November 14, 2008

"This double-high bagel bed is a great new product! I too have a dog that wouldn't sleep anywhere but our bed, until we got this dog bed. It is great for curlers and snugglers! The high bolster makes them feel secure and protected, keeps them warm, and it's all soft and comfy for those spoiled dogs out there! Only drawback, I would agree, is that the inner pillow is a bit small compared to the size of the bed -- I will probably add an additional pillow. Also, agree that the size runs very large -- I have a 110-lb. Weimaraner who has more than enough room in the Large, and he's both a curler AND a stretcher! Glad I didn't opt for the XL. Fantastic product - I've been waiting for something like this and could even go for one with a higher bolster and bigger fluffier inside. Maybe a "Triple-High Bagel Bed" is in our future?? And maybe a version filled with memory foam to provide a little more supprt? Thanks Orvis!"

"We purchased this bed for our 6 year old husky mix. He is tall and weighs 65 pounds. We bought the large bed. He climbed in this bed and fell asleep instantly. He use to climb into our bed in the middle of the night...not anymore! He has to be coaxed to get in our bed in the morning for snuggle time. The bed is a great quality. I will agree that the sizes run large and he could easliy have taken a MEDIUM size even though his weight fit the large category. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!"

Worth It,

"I never review anything, but since sizes vary so much with orvis beds i thought i would try to help someone else. I purchased this bed in the large size. I have a large greyhound (85lbs), he loves to curl up and sleep and he loves this bed because it allows him to really sink into it. Quality is good, I do agree with the other review on the fact that the pillow is a little small, but Riley does not care one bit. I say sizes vary because first i purchased the regular bagel bed in xl due to the weight reccomendations. It was huge, even this bed says 45-75lbs for the large and my dog has plenty of room, so if your dog likes to curl i would say, purchase the next size down."

Big dogs love it!,

"My two largest dogs (150 and 105 lbs.) took to this bed (XL) immediately (though not at the same time). They fall blissfully asleep with their chins resting on the bolster. My two smaller dogs (70 and 50 lbs.) have not had a chance to get into it, but they WILL both fit in it at the same time. Seems like a really nice bed! The inner pillow (sleeping surface) seems a little small for the diameter of the bolster, but the dogs don't care. I may eventually add a smaller pillow to fill it out."
