"I board dogs--labs and golden retrievers-- in my home. There are dog beds everywhere. About a dozen in total, in various stages of being washed. This bed is by far the one all dogs choose to curl up in. Even the ones that, prior to receiving this bed, seemed to prefer sleeping on the floor. It's hugs them and the bolster serves as a headrest. I got the Medium and it's plenty large enough for labs and golden retrievers."

Lack of Consistancy is Disappointing,

"I bought a small of the Fleece Wraparound Bed for my puppy (due to lack of stock) and i was very pleased - it was a great bed.
Now, my puppy has outgrown it so i went for a large version and i am very disappointed with the amount of stuffing.
In the small bed, the bolster enclosed the cushion.
In the large bed, there is a large gap created between the cushion and bolster which not only causes my dog to fall into it uncomfortably, but it also exposes the zip.
The more i think abot the inconsistancy, the more upset about it i feel - like i have been mislead by the quality of the small bed.
Paying above the odds and incurring comparatively huge despatch times (3 weeks) and then receiving what reminds me of a delated balloon isn't nice."

"The bed is beautiful in appearance. I purchased two but have been disappointed. The beds do not hold their shape, the sides collapse with the zipper facing upward, the filling is sparse with the beds becoming flat, lumpy and without support. Fleece shedding began soon after purchase. I have tried to work with the beds by constantly repositioning the sides and the filling. I have placed a supportive mat under the beds for more cushion/comfort. I have continued to try to make these beds work but know I have to find another. I do not mind the price if the beds had retained their shape and support. The beauty of the beds is lost in the overall lack of function."

"We absolutely love our 8 year old Carin Terrier, MAC. He has been using the same tattered dog bed since he was a pup, and frankly, wearing it out. I have tried before to get him a new bed that he enjoys with no success. Mac rejects them all of them. Well, we bought the Orvis bed (in red) and expected the same rejection result, only to experience a total surprise. Mac took to it immediately and totally loves it. While it certainly is well made and smart looking, I think the rounded sides and domed bottom let him snuggle down in a secure nest. Congratulations for making such a great product."

"Our 40lb 'petite' dalmatian loves this bed - it was a significant upgrade from her last bed so I'm hoping it lasts a long time. Seems to be well-constructed and she is not a chewer, and so far, so good! She loves the bolster and curls up tight in it - the medium is a bit big when she does, but overall I'm happy with it. I like the red color and the tan fleece, and the zips are easy to get at to adjust the fluff (when it arrived all the fluff was on one side). Kima now sleeps here more often than on the couch, which is great!"

"This bed came out of the box wonky, it did not set up like the picture, one side was flat to the ground with the zippers facing upward. As often as I try to manipulate the bolster to form the donut shape, it always falls back to zipper up over 3/4 of the bed. I am disappointed because my Lab has breathing problems, and if she manages to lay on the bolster up side, it does help her to have her head elevated. She also enjoys nesting and the filling is sparse, resulting in being lumpy. I am thinking of buying more fill, but don't know if it would be worth it, considering the other problem."

"Just received our 3rd bed. Bought first one for our oldest golden... but the younger 2 brothers would grab it first. Bought a second, and he stil couldn't get to either of them first. So, here we are... $600.00+ with shipping poorer, for 3 large beds,(YIKES!) but with 3 very happy goldens. Cost of the the golden smiles?... Priceless! :-)"

"My 5 month Golden Retriever loves his new dog bed! We bought the medium size knowing he'd grow into it (and thanks to previously written reviews which were helpful). We got it in brown, which is more milk chocolate than a deep brown color. The only issue I have with it is that it has flattened a bit after only a few weeks of usage by a puppy. The sides are collapsing outwards so it loses the wraparound effect. I would still recommend the product overall, but wish it kept its shape longer."

"Our dog loved this bed from the first day! It is well made and has a perfect amount of padding. We followed another reviewers suggestion about getting a medium for a lab, and that was great advice. Our dog is a lab /beagle mix and weighs about 50 pounds. He curls up in it and sleeps for hours, but there is also plenty of room for him to spead out. He likes to prob his head on the bolsters. We think it is a very well made bed and are please with out choice. Thank you Orvis!"

"I wanted to love this. . . I wanted my dog to love this. Clearly, we are in the minority on this product. But, I returned it because my dog could not settle in to this bed, and I could understand why. The material used in the center bed part was too foamy/stiff/poofy. She really couldn't settle in; it kept her kind of buoyed on top. Really too bad, because everything else about the bed is great: the quality of the materials, the workmanship, the look, the size, the bolster, the nest-like aspect."

"We took our 3 year old yellow lab, Mr. Sunshine "Sunny", into the local Orvis store to "try" the fleece wraparound bed. He stepped into it, did his usual circle and then curled up in the bed. It has been the same since we brought the bed home. Our Sunny is a big-time nester and would grab the square type flat beds and twist them up until he had made that perfect bolster for his chin. Now he is happy to just do his turns and then snuggle in this great bed.
I hesitated to pay the price, but so glad we did."

"I bought a small for my border collie puppy and overall have been very pleased.
It is attractive, well padded and is obviously of a far superior quality to the dog beds sold in popular pet shop chains.
My puppy has wet all over it and it has washed very well.
He has also taken great pleasure in dragging it around the house and wrestling with it and it is no worse off.
My major critisism is the placement of the zippers.
Before i washed it, i considered the placement of the zippers to be a little risky.
After i washed it they just wouldn't tuck away again!
There is no hiding them - the puppy sleeps with them against his face - and i just feel very fortunate that my puppy hasn't taken to zippers in the same way he has other things."

"I bought the medium sized for our Cocker Spaniel. He loves the bed and spends much more time on this bed than any we have had in the past. However, he likes to scratch before to lying down. We have had the bed for less than a month and there is fleece all over our house, along with bald spots on the bed. I am very disappointed that ORVIS has such a poor quality product. This product is definitely not worth the price tag."

"I purchased the large bed for my two golden retrievers. I was glad I did not listen to reviews and order the medium. My 9 month old golden weighs 65 lbs and likes to stretch out so she fits in the large perfectly. My 10 year old golden weighs 98 lbs and when curled up she fits snugly and has no extra room. I have had the bed for just over a month and the fleece is already starting to come off in spots, however, my puppy loves it and I would definitely recommend the large for golden retrievers."

"Our dog, a golden retriever, loves the bed. He's able to prop his head on the bolstered edge as he loves to do but, later, he can snuggle in deep. Until we bought this bed, he was on the floor about as often as in his bed, but no more -- he always heads to the bed when it's time to get some shut eye. The bed is plush and thick and fits our 75-pound guy just right. He likes it so well -- and he's so spoiled -- that we bought him a second one (in a different color) for downstairs."

"My dog has had this bed for over a year. From the day it arrived, he loved his bed. Unfortunately, he loves to scratch before he lays down. He scratched through the berber and then there were bald spots. A few months later, he scratched through the lining, and the stuffing comes out. He still loves the bed, and today, I am purchasing him another one. I love my dog, and out of all the beds he's ever had, this one is by far his favorite. Hopefully the second time is the charm!"
