ZG Helios™ 704-4 Mid 7.0 Fly Rod

ZG Helios™ 704-4 Mid 7.0 Fly Rod

1 7/8 oz. 7', 4-piece, Mid-Flex fly rod for 4-wt. line.We set out on an adventure to make the world's lightest fly fishing rod. Along the way, we also made the world's best. The 7-foot 4-weight 4-piece broke out a few years ago as one of the favorite freshwater rods in the Orvis arsenal for small stream and backcountry trout anglers. Combining its ability to pack down to fit any pack and its remarkable ability to cast accurately in the tightest spots, this little rod has captured the imagination of both eastern and western small stream anglers. This new patent pending Helios version weighs less than a pocketknife, allows precise casts into tight spots and offers wonderful tippet protection and great responsiveness. Every small stream challenge will bring a smile to your face and every fish hooked will be felt right into your soul. There is no better brookie and small stream fly rod in the world.

First fish on my Helios!

"I wasn't sure what I wanted when it came to buying my first fly rod. I knew Orvis lead the way in fly-fishing, so I went to their store. After describing the type of streams I predominantly fish, the salesman recommended three different rods to take out back and cast. This rod hands down cast the best. It is so effortless and comfortable, that it feels like an extension of my arm. This rod is a dream on the small streams!"

"I previously had a TLS Power Matrix 704-4 that I said could not be improved upon. I fished it hundreds of times without a complaint. Then they made the same model in the Helios series. I was skeptical and thought that it would only be a lighter rod and wouldn't fish any better than my TLS. I was dead wrong. With the Helios 704-4 I can roll cast and target shoot into pools on my favorite small mountain streams that I used to pass over because of their inaccessibility. It also has the guts to handle bigger fish like bully largemouth bass in the local ponds. I highly recommend this rod to small stream lovers that love to work the tight spaces."

Helios Contest Review, February 17, 2009
By: Boomer55 from Trumbull, CT

"Helios Contest- I received my Helios Rod from my father when I returned from my second tour of duty in Iraq. I served as a Navy Physician for the Marines in Northern Iraq. I didn't fly fish much prior to service, but when I returned and my father gave me my ZG Helios 704-4 mid. I took it out on a stream near my home and fell in love with it.
I feel as if my rod raises my skill level every time its in my hands. Like scalpel to a surgeon, with my rod in my hands it feels like it becomes part of my arm. Fishing with the Helios has helped me adjust to civilian life and I find my self from time to time as walk through a secluded creek thanking god for creating such a sport and allowing me to enjoy it."

East River Colorado wild brown
User submitted photo
"Once again on my fall fishing trip to the East River, Colorado, I had the chance to chase wild brown trout - this time, fully outfitted with "Orvis", down to the fly! The CFO reel, Helios 4 weight rod loaded with Wonderline and my trusty Orvis hat worked together to bring this nice brown to hand."

SMALL STREAM DREAM, July 8, 2008
By: ALLABOUTTROUT from EVERETT, WASHINGTON

"I JUST RECEIVED MY 7' 4 WEIGHT HELIOS ROD AND I'M GREATLY IMPRESSED. I HAVE A BAMBOO VERSION AND A NEW TROUT BUM ONE AND I WAS A LITTLE APPREHENSIVE ABOUT A MID-FLEX VERSION OF THIS ROD, BUT IT IS GREAT. THIS ROD CAN DO IT ALL. IT CAN BE VERY DELICATE AND DAINTY FROM 40' IN, WHICH IS WHAT THIS ROD IS DESIGNED FOR, BUT HAS THE BACKBONE FOR LONGER CASTS, WIND, AND BIGGER FISH. THE MID FLEX BEING A 7.0 IS NOT THAT MUCH DIFFERENT THAN SOME OF THE FULL-FLEX RODS IN FEEL, BUT HAS THE ADDED BENEFIT OF MORE BACKBONE WHEN NEEDED. THIS RODS TRACKING IS SO GOOD AND IT IS VERY LIGHT IN WEIGHT. I CAN'T WAIT TO USE IT ON MY FAVORITE SMALL STREAM. NOW, IF ORVIS WILL COME OUT WITH A HELIOS 1-WEIGHT SOON I WILL BE FIRST ON THE LIST TO PURCHASE. THANKS AGAIN ORVIS!"
