"I was looking forward to receiving the "minimalist" sneaker, because the appearance was cool, and Orvis stuff is usually comfortable and well-made. But the actual shoes were unacceptable -- there was some bunching inside that scraped painfully against the toes on one shoe. Perhaps this was just one defective item, but the overall experience of wearing them was uncomfortable, basically because they offer so little foot support. For something touted as a traditional sneaker updated, this was more minimalist than expected."

"I received the melon minimalist shoes as a Christmas gift. I love the look of the shoes, as do my co-workers. But after only two or three wearings, the left shoe is just falling apart. The canvas material split from the foot opening down toward the sole, and the suede fabric is separating from the sole. I've always expected more from Orvis."

"I purchased these shoes in melon canvas and was very pleased with their appearance and fit. They are very comfortable and run slightly larger in size than most shoes. The catalog photo accurately depicts their retro-style look and the lace holes are situated as to keep the shoe firmly on your foot. I would recommend that you try inserts in the soles as they are very flat and will not support your insteps if you require it. I have received multiple complements on these excellent sneakers - I recommend them strongly."

"I received my melon Minimalist Sneakers last spring and I have to say that these have become one of my favorite pairs of casual shoes. I've worn them with shorts and a t-shirt as well as to work with khaki's and a blazer. They are comfortable and distinctive. "I bought a pair almost a year ago for a Safari trip to Kenya. I decided to wear them on my one day layover in London to begin to "break them in". I was glad I did! The material in the toe area kept rubbing my toe (even with socks on) to a point of soreness. By the end of the day, I went to a mall to buy another pair of safari type shoes. I was tempted to return them once I returned home abut they are quite retro cool. I still wear them but only when I know I will not do much walking."

"Hello,
I own the Minimalist Leather Sneaker AND the Minimalist Canvas-and-Leather Minimalist Shoe (in melon). Both are wonderful, combining maximum value with style. They're both extremely comfortable and I get compliments on them where ever I go.
I spend two weeks a month in an historical neighborhood in Harlem (NYC) and the other two weeks in the country (Storrs, Connecticut). Both pairs of shoes are up to the task and I do a lot of walking in both places.
I love the "retro" look of both pairs ... a throw pack back to the fifties. I could see Bill Russell or Bob Cousy wearing these shoes on the basketball floor or "kicking it' off the court. They go great with khaki pants or jeans.
I'm thinking about buying another pair in navy. My girlfriend thinks I'm going a little overboard but when it comes to the Minimalist ... I can't help myself (smile).
ORVIS should also consider the Minimalist Leather Sneaker in Black.

"These are incredibly comfortable shoes. They have a very comfortable and soft insole, yet offer plenty of support. I love wearing these and have received more compliments and questions regarding them than any other shoes I have owned. My only suggestion would be to redesign the shoe with fewer eyes so it could be more easily removed and put back on when travelling. These would be the perfect travel shoes if they were easier to take off and replaced. Love 'em!"

"Had a pair of the melon colour now for over a year. Although they have a tendancy to dirty easy, they are the best and most comfortable pair of casual shoes I have ever had. Really silky smooth on the feet. Walking around town still comfortable, but not designed for a rain storm! On the whole, a really comfortable casual shoe, and well worth a five star rating. I even wear them to work!"

"I am a tough guy to please on shoes and I give these a thumbs up! I stand on my feet 10-12 hours per day at work and these shoes feel great-light and comfortable. I bought the melon flavor and have had several compliments on my good taste. Inside the canvas, they are lined and they feel smooth against your feet-no seams to scratch my tender dogs. "If you need a comfortable shoe, make sure and pick this one up. I ordered these shoes along with the Merrell Throtle Mocs for my trip to New York. I was concerned about the Moss color, but they look great with jeans and khakis. They are very retro and stylish. I literally walked on these shoes for miles and miles for 2 days in new york. My feet never hurt at all with these. I don't know what they have on the inside of this shoe, but it is the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. They are light, they pack easy, they fit great, and they are like walking on clouds. Thanks Orvis!!!"
