Mens Clearwater® Endura Wader

In response to customer input, we improved the Cleawater Enduras to make them more durable than ever. Built around a three-layer fabric system, a 4th layer of polyester microfibre reinforces the knees, providing an added layer of protection where a fly fishing wader takes most of its abuse. And abuse is what these waders were designed to endure. The price tag might be low but your expectations should not be. This is a full-time wader for all levels, not simply to be tossed out after a few uses, the disappointing fate of most similarly priced fly fishing waders. The wader's main fabric is of a tightly woven, nylon face fabric coated with a layer of breathable polyurethane, and lined with nylon tricot. Adjustable suspenders with opposing buckles easily convert the wader to waist high. High-density, neoprene booties. Wade safety belt included.

Fantastic waders for fantastic price, September 9, 2009
By: Watchingripples from South Wales

"I have been making do with non-breathable waders for some five years now, primarily because I spend a lot of time crossing barbed wire fences and scrabbling around on my knees creeping up on wary wild brown trout in my local freestone river. I did not fancy killing a pair of expensive breathables, and I believed that the cheaper ones were a false economy.

A recent nostalgic visit to the Orvis shop in Stockbridge (where 30 years ago the sight of those huge trout in the roadside tributory well and truly set the flyfishing hook into me) lulled me into buying a pair of Clearwater Endura stockingfoot waders. The decent reviews and the price made it seem worth the gamble.

Some six fishing trips later, and I mourn for the lost years! If only I had these fantastic waders earlier. I cover a good two miles of walking during most of my fishing trips, often over tricky terrain, and the Clearwater Enduras feel like normal trousers - no moistrue build-up at all (except of course in the non-breathable neoprene stockingfoots). In the water, I have not detected a single sign of a leak , even after hours standing in water over waist deep.

The fit is really good (for me anyway), even flattering if one can say such a thing about a pair of waders! They look really good without looking "designer brash", as so many fishing products in all price ranges tend to be these days. They are very light and pack up into lunchbox size. The shoulder straps are well located and the elasticated yoke on the back is of good quality and ensures that the shoulder straps stay firmly in place without having to over-tighten them - a problem I have found with many other waders I have tried. The waist belt is nice and slim (my waders are the 2009 updated version) and there are no stupidly chunky buckles - the click-shut buckles are slim enough to be comfirtable and stylish, but robust enough to last (or so it seems so far). In short, these waders are so comfortable you will forget that you are wearing them.

Don't get me wrong - I shan't be shuffling around on my knees among the stones in these. The knee areas are (invisibly from the outside) reinforced, but I suspect that they are a little light for any such rough stuff. Occasional crouches down to the knees so a fish of a life time doesn't get startled should be okay, though.

Last but not least I must mention the whole Orvis service thing. I turned up in the Stockbridge branch dressed in camping get-up with my five year old son in tow. They made me feel like royalty, and I left confident that my waders would be a perfect fit. That coupled with the Orvis Guarantee means that I have become quite an Orvis convert.

I shall keep my non-breathables for really hairy-chested stuff and my neoprenes fr the winter grayling, but in my opinion these waders are the obvious step up, and they are of a quality which far exceeds expectation and their price. I have seen waders over twice the price which haven't come close.

For those who are dithering whether to go for breathable waders, I implore you - go for these! Judging from my own experiences, I firmly believe that you will not regret it!"

Exchange number 5, August 19, 2009
By: anglerswife from Isle of Lewis

"Great waders if you don't mind wet feet!!

These waders look to be superb value-for-money buy when you first purchase them. They appear reasonably hard wearing, comfortable, and with a great range of sizes and fits. However, for my husband, that is where the positives ended as we have so far had to exchange 5 or more pairs of these waders due to the same, ongoing problem. There is substantial weakness along the seams of the inside legs.
After a few outings the friction caused by the legs rubbing together as you walk wears a "thinning" just outside the seam re-inforcement area resulting in leaks. Unfortunately the quantity of repair tape provided by Orvis is insufficient to mend these holes and you have no option but to either suffer wet feet, or get another pair.
Thanks to Orvis' very generous returns policy we have so far exchanged these waders about 5 times over the last 4 years! The fishing season in our part of Scotland is only 7 months long and the waders are worn for only a fraction of that time - doesn't say much for durability!!
Orvis staff have been helpful above and beyond the call of duty in sending us replacement pairs whilst on holiday etc, Their customer services team are excellent and we appreciate all the efforts they have made on our behalf; However, they're fighting a losing battle with a somewhat shoddy product and until Orvis rectify this we wouldn't feel able to recommend Clearwater waders to anyone"

Response from Orvis: By Orvis Technical Services, October 11, 2009
Orvis Customer Service contacted this customer and apologized for the problems encountered with the seams of these waders. Orvis also thanked this customer for the feedback. Due to feedback such as this, Orvis has completely redesigned the Clearwater waders for 2010. We have added belt loops and anatomically sculpted booties for comfort while moving the leg seams from the inside of the leg to the rear to reduce wear and prevent the type of problem that this customer has noticed.

Modified Enduras, August 6, 2009
By: mrtrout

"After my initial purchase of these waders in January of this year, I was extremely pleased with them.
Unfortunately a couple of weeks ago, I had the misfortune to discover they were leaking around the crotch area.
I contacted my nearest outlet at Pickering in Yorkshire, where I bought them from, and spoke to Becky.
From the moment I contacted her, her concern was to make sure I received replacement waders post haste. Two days later the new and remodelled waders arrived.
I have now had three outings in them, and they are superb.
Very comfortable, and the seams now taken to the rear of the leg, stop any chaffing when walking.
The more sculptured foot is also far better, plus the belt loops.
The only way these waders could be improved upon, would be to have built in gravelguards.
That said, at this price they are fantastic value for money, and I would like to convey my thanks to Becky, and all the staff at Pickering for the wonderful service I have received.
I have several Orvis rods and reels, and from now on I will be sticking with Orvis waders.
Can't reccomend them highly enough.
Keep up the good work."

Good but ..., June 30, 2009
By: MABlair from Eagle River, AK

"I bought the stockingfoot Endura waders on sale about 3 months ago for $79. Being new to the fly fishing and waders game, I did not realize that belt loops, articulated knees, and gravel guards would be so important. Also, I have a small foot (men's 8) so the large-regular option bootie was much too large and tended to bunch up in my wading boots. The Endura waders I purchased had none of the other features mentioned above - the new ones appear to have belt loops which will be a marked improvement. There was absolutely no problem with comfort or durability, but the minuses mentioned above drove me to reconsider my purchase. I have not yet returned the product, but I have been assured by Orivs that their 100% satisfaction guarantee applies even though I have used them for three months without leaks or other "defect." What a fabulous guarantee!! I decided to upgrade to the Tailwaters XT (in fact, I got them on sale with free boots -- superb value!!!!!!!!) and can't wait to get back in the water for the king and red salmon here in Alaska. All in all, the new and improved 2009 Endura waders are worth the money, but I would consider more features if you fish often."

Great Value, June 3, 2009
By: USNA1977 from San Diego, CA

"On a budget I purchased these waders -- my first pair. They have lived up to my expectations and kept me dry. From freestone streams in the High Sierra to fast moving (and cold) Steelhead rivers in the Cascades. I really like the ability to roll down the top and use the shoulder straps as a belt -- a quick and easy way to "layer" and stay cool when the sun comes up."

Great Waders!, May 18, 2009

"I can't believe the quality of these for the price. I've had them out 5 times in some fairly deep swift waters and they are flawless thus far. The size is true and the fit very comfortable. Very nice product."

Exceeded my expectations, February 7, 2009
By: juststarting from Texas

"I was a little concerned about ordering waders online, but after receiving my waders, they fit absolutely great. I am just getting started fly fishing so when these waders went on sale, I had to get them, and I am glad that I did. I don't think that I would have been happy with the way the other manufacturers waders fit, and at Orvis, they will take them back for a return if they don't fit, I couldn't go wrong. I can't wait to hit the river."

Leak City, January 21, 2009
By: RhinoScores

"I've had a pair for less than 4 years. After owning them for less than 4 months - one fall striper season - I had to send them back to Orvis to repair. When I got them back, it appeared that Orvis did nothing more than put aquaseal on many of the seams. Then the company tried to charge me a $30 handling fee for fix seam leaks in wader that were less than a year old. Nerver again will I buy a pair and I've let everyone on many of the big fishing community websites know about the problem."

GREAT waders, November 20, 2008
By: NEIAFlyFish

"Bought these a few weeks ago and have had two great trips since. Shipping was slow (UPS ground is a bad choice). The fabric provides a comfortable fit and the stocking foot had plenty of room in the boot with heavy socks. Looking forward to more trips this winter in the snow."

Highly Recommended!, November 18, 2008
By: FishyDan from Conway, AR

"I purchased these waders at the recommendation of a friend who is a long-time fisherman. I really like the quality and craftsmanship that Orvis puts into even their "entry level" waders. Mine are about a year old now and I have not had a single problem with them. Matched with a good set of wading boots, you will be comfortable enough to stay in the river from sunup to sundown."

Kind of dissapointtment, November 15, 2008
By: Laszlo

"I am an Orvis fan when it comes to buy Fly fishing gear. My rods, reels, line, backup are all Orvis and I am fully satisfied with them. About two years ago I decided to try the Orvis waders as well (Clearwater Endura ). Unfortunately the satisfaction wasn't the same as in the case of other products due to the many leaks. I noticed the first leak after I used the waders for about teen times on the neoprene booties. Later several leaks appeared on the three layer fabric as well. I repaired them one by one with the included repair kit, but newer and newer ones are occurring. Living in Europe is more difficult to return it. So I decided not to struggle anymore and to try something else, but I am still faithful to Orvis. So yesterday I ordered the Silver Label Waders, hoping there will be more reliable and durable."

"I am a somewhat novice fly fisherman. These were my first breathable wadders and I love them. I looked at several other brands around the same price and none seemed to be as well made at Orvis. No problems with trips to Montana, Colorado and Sierras where I pack them in the base of my drop bottom suitcase. I have purchased a couple of pair as gifts for fishing buddies."

Great Price and Fit, May 13, 2008
By: DRfisherman from S.E Pa Near Dlaware river.

"I purchased these as a replacement for my old neoprene waders. They are light, comfortable, easy to walk in, but one thing most people don’t mention is you will get cold in these waders. You must wear layers, fleece or whatever. Never get caught up in brush or sticker bushes. I looked at other brands and could not find the right size, most had chest around 48 and I wanted one that would fit better about 42 and the ML fit perfect! Orvis fit the bill perfectly!!
Can’t wait to try them in warmer conditions to test out the breathability."

"I'm very happy with the performance of these waders .They were very comfortable on a 4 day trip in warm weather ,75 -80 degrees .They seem to run very true to the size chart. The only addition I would like to see would be attached gravel guards."

Surprising Quality, April 2, 2008
By: datongdave from Exeter, NH

"I picked these waders up as a backup pair with the intention of loaning them out to friends who are just learning to throw a fly. After wearing them once, I was pleasantly surprised at how light, warm and relatively quiet they are for a pair of economy waders. No need to spend any more. Now, I have questions regarding their long term durability but for initial quality, I came away very impressed"

"I've owned a pair of these waders for close to 8 years now. I used to be a major proponent of the neoprene waders for their insulation value and overall comfort. However, after I recieved these as a christmas present, I'll never go back. Not only are these plenty warm in the cold water, they're much easier to transport and walk in. These waders were seriously one of the best investments Ive made. Additionally, they dry really quickly and make airplane travel really easy without having to worry about that awful "wet wader" smell on everything in your luggage. Ive fished everywhere from southern Arizona, to the Canadian Border and all the way to North Carolina and i strongly encourage consumers to take a long hard look at these before making an impulse buy on a cheaper less efficient model. Its virtually impossible to tear the material on these waders. Im a pretty big clutz and tend to catch everything on branches and or in doors and I've never once had a problem with this product."

Price & Quality Good - Consider Others Too, October 17, 2007
By: RWDinTULSA from Tulsa, OK

"I have owned and used on occasion the Orvis Clearwater waders. My pair is actually an older version dating back to around 2001. They offer a good value and well designed product for the money. Although I have recently experienced water leaks in mine, I would still recommend them to those fly fisherman who want a good wader but can't spend $250 or more for those waders that are now offered on the market. With proper care they should last for 5 or 6 or even more years. The only less than positive comment that I would make about these is the wader knee seam design. If you wear them a lot or find yourself bending down a lot the seams may give way to the stress and break down thus allowing them to leak. Not good! I plan on spending a few more bucks next time. If repairable, wader repair will cost $30 plus the shipping expense to send them back. I'm now considering having a back-up pair!"
