Very Strong Case, January 16, 2010
By: HemiDave

"I purchased the double, four-piece case as a Christmas gift for someone in my family and liked it so much, I had to get one myself. Overall the case is very solid. From the way my rods and reels are packed in, to the very durable nylon exterior. I like the fact that you can stash your rods rigged and ready to go so you do not have to fumble once you are at your destination. I also feel that, due to its size, it makes a great carry-on option. In addition to that, it can be lashed to any pack so you have two rods ready to go for a hike in somewhere. The only thing that I was a little disappointed in was how difficult it was to get my rigs actually in the case for the first time. I would advise that you spend a little time up front figuring out what configuration works best for you. It seems that there are two sleeves per rod tube and it felt as though the extra fabric was a little excessive, which caused the difficulty of getting the rods in. Once you manage to decide what works best, you are golden. Great product compared to others on the market and I am very happy with the purchase."

Great value, great product!, October 14, 2009
By: EzeSknkin from Cape Cod, MA

"I purchased the single case for 4-piece rods and am very pleased with it. The fit and finish of the case is top-notch, and the fly keeper is an added bonus, since I have always had the problem of a rigged fly getting hung up! My only complaint is with the large arbor design; for those of us who still fish smaller, standard arbor reels particularly for lighter wt. rods, there is a large amount of excess space in the reel compartment. Easily fixed by stuffing a rag in there with the reel, but I guess most people fish LA reels these days anyways."

"I must be a moron because I cannot seem to fit my Helios 4pc. 9 wt rod in this carrier, even unstrung, without real difficulty. This seems to be very poorly designed because you need to cram it all in. I have no idea how one can accomplish this with a fully set up rig. Maybe with smaller rods this works, but it is a real struggle with a 9 wt. They really need to go back to the drawing board on this one."

Exceptional Value, June 28, 2009
By: rarefly

"The Safe Passage four piece Rod/Reel Case is the perfect compliment to my Orvis Large Arbor Reel and four piece Orvis rod. The fly patch enables me to easily break-down the rod, leave everything in tack and quickly reassemble it when moving to another fishing site down the road. It not only allows me to put put more time on the river but provides piece of mind that my Orvis equipment is well protected. By far the best rod/reel case that I've ever owned. Thank you Orvis!"

Great Rod Protector, June 11, 2009
By: flyfishingmack from The Mountains, NC

"I purchased this for my son to use for his rod and reel that he doesn't have a tube for. It works really well being able to keep it assembled and just break the pieces down a put it in the case. It saves time when you are getting ready to fish. The fly patch is nice to secure your fly you have tied on and the pocket compartment is nice to hole leaders and tippet. I highly recommend this product."

Dissapointed!, May 8, 2009
By: Tomg

"I purchased this case along with a new Helios 905-4. The outside constructon and padding is great! My reason for returning this case was the lack if individual sleeves for each rod section! I couldn't believe that my $800.00 rod sections were going to stuffed into one section.. I suggest putting sleeves for each piece...Then it would be a real rod case. Thanks!!!"

Almost perfect, May 4, 2009
By: flyguyruss from Lake Charles, La.

"I have three different generations of these cases all in large-arbor doubles. They do well with mid arbor and Orvis large arbor reels but will not hold my really big reels. I still give this top reviews. I know what they were designed for but it would be nice to protect my 12-15wt. stuff while running offshore. Unless you need to house a winch you will be very pleased. They also do just fine with smaller reels. I've used them with 3 and 4wts and they did very well. A little wiggle room but my gear was still safe."

Beware, March 19, 2009
By: dczach

"I would like to inform all readers of a problem I encountered with this product. I had an unstrung rod in my case while traveling . I had both zippers brought to the bottom and thought the case was secure. When I grabbed the handle the reel portion of the case tipped downward and the unattached top section of my unstrung rod slid out of the case and was immediately stepped on by a companion. So much for "safe " passage. I have had many different rod and reel cases over the years and have never had this happen before. I recommend that anyone who purchases this case use only one of the zippers when closing the case. This will resolve this particular problem. Perhaps Orvis should consider this for future models."

Rod Case, October 12, 2008
By: Louisfly37 from Royal Oak MI

"I love how durable it is. Yesterday, I dropped it, and there was no scratch. Imagine this, you go to Montana for three days of fly fishing. Then, at baggage claim, you can't find the rest of your luggage! The attendant says they will ship it to you. You're left stranded with your rod case which you put in the overhead compartment. Can't fish? Problem? Nope, you can keep a fully rigged rod in that case because it has a special fly patch. There's even an extra pocket for leader, line or tippet."

Excellent!, October 10, 2008
By: SWANK from Hammond, LA

"This is the way to go if you regularly use your gear. I hav a single two piece and a single 4 piece. I like the length of the 4 piece, but it does not provide "in tube" sleeves for all four pieces. I used the sleeves that came with the rod. I was a bit nervous about stuffing my 8 wt. Helios down in there with 3 pieces touching each other. All in all, the concept is great and the case works great. I look forward to many trips using these cases! Highly recommend!"

uh-oh!, October 2, 2008
By: Glicky from Ashland, MA

"This case presents a challenge for a single four piece rod. Trying to put a stung up rod into this case took me multipe attempts and tried my patience on more than one occasion. Thses tries were done as practice. Even unstrung, the guides still get hung on each other whlie sliding the rod into the case. Too much effort. The case for a single two piece rod is more user friendly. I returned the case for the Safe Passage Carry-It-All Rod and Reel Case. Very nice and works well."

Response from Orvis: By Orvis Customer Service Team, October 9, 2008
Orvis Customer Service immediately contacted this customer and apologized for the case being difficult to fit a four piece rod into. Poor Design Change, January 25, 2008
By: steelheadflyguy

"I was terribly disappointed to find out that the single rod Safe Passage design had eliminated the full length wrap-a-round zipper design similar to what is still incorporated on the double rod design. I have owned a single rod Safe Passage case for the last 6 years and have always enjoyed how easy it was to insert or take out a fully loaded rod into the old style case because the wrap-a-round zipper allowed the reel case to hinge out of the way. The new design with all the Velcro and one-sided opening makes it much more cumbersome to take a fully loaded rod and reel in and out of the case."

Must have when traveling, October 20, 2007
By: Muskrat from Oakville, ON

"When I get to where I am going I want to be on the water as soon as possible, after all, there are only so many hours from dawn until dusk. A fully-rigged rod slides right into this case. There's a little foam pad for your fly. Your reel fits snugly in the recess. You can keep some leaders and tippet material in the zippered mesh compartment if you wish. Zip it up, throw it in the trunk and you're ready to go! By the way, not only is it super-tough, it floats too. Don't ask."

good all around rod protection, October 12, 2007

"I liked this case because you could pre-rig one or two rod and reels and travel with them and not have to worry if my rod and reel got broken or lose one of the pieces in travel."

Great travel case., October 8, 2007
By: FlyFish2Relax from Colorado

"I've tried a couple of other travel cases, and this one is the best one so far. It's high quality, and the rod sections are big enough to comfortably insert and retrieve sections. Other cases seemed too small and I was afraid I would break a rod tip. I keep my most frequently used rods pre-rigged and stored so that they travel safely, and I can hit the water quickly while my fishing buddies are tying knots. Great case."
