Gift-Boxed Brass Compass

Gift-Boxed Brass Compass

Hand crafted of solid brass, this exquisite compass was inspired by an antique pocket model, once commonly used by geologists and engineers, and hearkens back to the days when the instruments of exploration were works of art as well as survival tools. Beautifully presented in a handsome rosewood box, it is sure to be a well-received gift. This compass is functional but not scientifically calibrated for field use. 1½"H x 3½"L x 3¼"W.

Great Leadership Gift, January 8, 2010
By: TraumaGuy from Cincinnati, Ohio

"I purchased a compass for each of the individuals on my leadership team and had them engraved. They turned out absolutely beautiful. This is a great gift to help motivate an executive team to remember to plot their course and navigate through change. The reviews I received from everyone who received the compass as a gift were terrific.

As a side note the turn around time from the order of 11 compasses with engraved boxes was remarkably short, less than 10 days! Also, the woman who took my order over the phone was very detail oriented and careful to make sure all names were spelled correctly. She was top notch. Kudos Orvis!"

good online experience, January 14, 2010
By: kdmcguire

"Quality was good. Was shipped promptly in packing to prevent damage. The item was larger than I expected.... I expected a pocket compass and got a very very large one!.. Don't order this for a hunter to find his way in the woods like I did!!! This is a very nice compass, it is just more for the professional... MUCH more than I was looking for... but very nice and a great gift!!"

Excellent Orvis service, January 5, 2010
By: cal831

"The product is fine, but, when I received it, I found out that the engraving was incorrect.
As I wanted to ship it to Europe as a Xmas gift, a replacement would never have made it on time.

Orvis proposed that I sent the faulty product as a "place holder" and replace it later with a correctly engraved item (which arrived 10 days later).
Per Orvis, no need to return the faulty product and a 50% credit on the price of the item.
How's that for service?"

"I bought this item as a gift to my husband. It is more beautiful than in the picture. The box and the compass have amazing details, it will be an item that can be passed down through generations."

Amazing value !!!, December 25, 2009
By: Dubie from Winter Haven, Florida

"My brother gave me one of these for Christmas. I was worried that he spent way too much money on a gift, so after struggling with my conscience for a few hours, I went to the Orvis website and looked it up. I was amazed that an instrument of this quality, that has a box to match, would ever sell for $89.00. I honestly thought it would have been in the three to four hundred dollar range.

My brother is a good Scotsman, so I should have known."

A wonderful thing, October 7, 2009
By: Identsgt from Peterborough, Ontario

"I like anything carefully made that works well. Tools, timepieces, instruments, etc... and I like strong brass things. And this is all of these combined. It is also large, heavy and beautiful. The leveling bubbles inside were a pleasant surprise. This is made to be set into a mount on top of a tripod . It has sharp clear internal degree markings and a needle protector that stops the needle from moving when it is closed. I wish the tripod and mount were available! The travel box is nicely made as well. The mirror is very clear."
