A great fly rod for delicate presentations in tight fly fishing conditions. Rod loads easily and casts with delicacy even with just a short length of fly line out beyond the tip. Great for fly fishing in small, unknown waters. Versatile fly rod for any average-size trout water. Very responsive.

Amazing rod,
April 16, 2009

"I just purchased this rod with the free real combo and let me tell you, it is by far the best rod I have owned. The ease of casting even with overhangs and tight water, make this rod ideal for my urban angling, and its flawless line shooting makes it easy to use even on some of the bigger water I am fishing. The fast response has helped me ensure when a strike comes, a hook up is inevitable."

ideal for small streams!,

"Fairly new rod for me and boy what a great surprise! Ideal for small streams in confined areas. Very easy to roll cast and hit target water consistently. Great response when those strikes come out of nowhere. On the open water, casting is smooth and even though only a 7' rod, shoots line with east...even for a novice caster. A definite rod to highly consider if small streams are a part of your fishing territory."

My main rod,
October 29, 2007

"I fish mostly small to medium-sized streams. I have found my 7ft. 4wt. Power Matrix to be ideal. It has the sensitivity and control I need when conditions require and the power to reach out when required on the medium-sized streams. It is a joy for all conditions and fish sizes I encounter in the limestone streams of MD and PA."

Perfect Small Stream Rod,
October 9, 2007
By:
Aubreyfrom Red House, Virginia
"I took my new 704-4 west to Cody Wyoming in early September for its first workout. I was pleased when I caught the first fish on only the second cast and went on to catch 66 trout in the 6 to 12 inch class in 3 hours. The rod is perfect for small to medium sized water and the 7 fooot length makes it easy to get through the brush moving up and down stream. The short rod also makes back casting much easier in tight spaces with overhanging brush and limbs. The 4 weight line improves casting in the wind making up for the shorter rod length. I went on to catch several fish in the 3-5 pound class later in the week; the rod performed wonderfully handling the larger fish just fine. I would not be afraid to use the rod on much larger water and hope to get that chance soon!"

My Swiss Army Knife Rod,
October 8, 2007
By:

"I have a few rods, but have not fished any of them nearly as much as my TLS 704-4. Working some of the small streams in Southern Vermont, I run into a lot of sections that open up and bigger fish are a possibility. The rod has the strength to handle the bigger fish, but is short and light enough to manage tight spaces with a lot of overhang and other obstacles. If you need a rod that can cover a lot of bases, I would recommend this one to you ten times over."

"Great rod for my local waters where one day I might be on a plunge pool stream hunting down brookies and the next be on a local pond catching hand sized bream. Roll casts like a dream and will shoot line when you need to reach out and touch a fish."

"This quickly became my favorite rod for fishing small streams in southern Vermont. It's small size and responsive action is perfect for tight spaces. It also has had no problem handling good sized large and smallmouth bass on streamers. Can't think of a single complaint about this rod."

"This rod is perfect for small streams where roll casting is a must. It can handle weighted nymphs, big streamers and tiny dries. This is my go to rod when delicate presentations and light tippets are necessary. Great Job Orvis!"
