"This is a great rod, I have caught many bass on it, and it pulled in 3 lb trout like nothing. It has great casting ability, and is very flexible. It also is a good telescopic rod and can fit in the trunk with ease. It also casts very large bass flies with no problems. Overall I highly reccomend it."

Great So Cal surf rod...,
May 13, 2009

"Fly fishing the surf in So California is demanding on your equipment, and after a year plying the surf from San Francisco down to Baja California with my TLS S/W 906-4 or my TLS 908-4, I am very happy with how the these rods perform, whether casting long leaders with Clousers, Checkerboards or Surfin Merkins, fighting Perch, Spotfins, Halibut or Corbinas, these rods rock. They are light in the hand and strong when fighting both the surf and the fish. I also like the way they look.
For the price, quality and performance, these rods are a tremendous value. When using my 6 wt. along with my Battenkill Mid-Arbor IV reel loaded with shooting line, I feel confident that I can take just about any fish that hits my fly.
When the surf gets bigger and stronger onshore winds pick up, I go to my TLS 8 wt. with a Battenkill Mid-Arbor V and shooting line, which handles just about anything the beach can throw at you, (except gale force winds).
When heading out on a fly-fishing surfing safari, I never leave home without this great pair of TLS fly rods and Battenkill Mid-Arbor reels."

906-4 Saltwater TLS,

"I got this rod mainly so I could throw larger top water flies at big bass. This rod does that so well because I can upline it with 8 wt. Bass Wonderline on an extra spool for my black Battenkill Mid Arbor IV reel, that's something you can't do with any fresh water 6 wt. I do use 6 wt. line when fishing for bass but if you want to throw the big poppers, you need a bigger line and this rod throws them far and accurately. It is my new favorite bass rod. I took it to the west coast of Fla. recently and caught a bunch of early morning snook and this rod handled them with ease. Didn't even break a sweat. Now I take it to places where I usually would have brought my 8 wt. just to see how much it will handle, so far it has not dissapointed as I don't ever expect it to. It's just a great rod and it sounds so cliche' but the versatility is umatched. I am not the type of person that needs to update my gear all the time, if I find a rod or reel that performs well and becomes a favorite of mine I hold on to it. Saying that, I know this rod will be a part of my collection forever. Don't ever think this 6 wt. is not tough enough to use in saltwater, all I can say is try it, you''ll be surprised and impressed!! Another fantastic product from a great American company."

"In Denmark we have a very specialized tradition fishing sea trout from the beach. We often fish in strong winds and even in the dark. I've tried almost every high-end rod on the market, but I always end up with my Orvis rod because of its versatility, casting resources, and fighting power. My old fishing friend is a 8 weight Orvis Saltrodder, bought 12 years ago and still going strong, and my current favorite is a 6 weight Power Matrix because it's helping me landing my fly anywhere i wants it between 20 and 90 feet - windy or not!"

"I live in south Florida, and when going out on the various freshwater/saltwater rivers here I bring my TLS Power Matrix saltwater 906-4 and 908-4 loaded with my Battenkill mid arbor 4 with bonefish Wonderline 6 wt one spool and 8 wt. striper Wonderline on the other. I always start with my 6 wt. and have yet needed to break out the 8 wt. This is a powerful rod and can handle much more than a 6 wt. should. I love this rod; it gives me more confidence to handle any situation I come upon. I'm just wondering if there is a fish it can't handle and if the 906-4 is this tough what can the 908-4 do?"
