"I bought this rod for steelhead and salmon fishing on the Clearwater in ID. It is great. I landed my first steelhead with it about two weeks ago. It handled like a dream. With a large arbor Battenkill reel that i have on it, you couldn't ask for more. The only minor complaint is that it is a bit on the heavy side compared to other 8 wt rods. If the slight weight difference there is between regular rods is bothering someone, then they should look into a spey setup. Great overall rod"

"I bought this rod last year primarily for fishing the Lake Ontario tributaries for steelhead/salmon. The vast majority of the fishing I do requires short casts(about 40 ft. max) with split shot and an indicator. The rod did everything I asked it to do-casts were accurate, and with a little practice, I was able to easily manage casting with heavy split shot and a large indicator. The rod is a touch on the heavy side for an 8 weight compared to others I've used, but overall I'm very impressed with it. The blank has a beautiful dark green finish and the components appear to be very good quality. Can't wait to take it out this weekend for some fun at the local bass pond!"

Large schoolie on the TLS 8 weight rod
"When the School Striped Bass action is hot, my go to rod is the TLS Power Matrix 908-2 in mid flex. It loads easily for short casts to the edge of the school as not to line the entire mass of fish. When they move away from the boat the rod shoots 80 feet of line with ease. I like a larger loop when casting Clouser Minnows and the TLS handles the job well. It's so light in the hand that, at first I was concerned about it handling the occasional larger fish. No problem! Managed several in the low 30 inch class that dove deep near the boat and the lifting power was hard to believe! I love the TLS line of flyrods. I've owned the trout series since their inception and have moved up to using them in the salt. For the price, they can't be beat. To top everything off you will get the finest customer care that Orvis is so proud of. Last week I managed a 20 lb. Striper on this rod. It was weighed on my Boga Grip. Got him in quickly and released it to be caught another day."

"A few years ago i bought a 9wt. midflex rod.I liked the action so much i recently bought a 5wt. and a 8wt.midflex. The flex system is a great way to get the same action in all your rods and the workmanship is excellent. Can't be beat."

"This is the best rod for Northern Pike fishing I have encountered. It has the versatility, smoothness and firmness needed to pull in even the biggest of Northern Pikes. The feeling the rod gives back is phenomenal - you almost feel you know the Northern Pike at the end of your line. Nothing so far as been close to this formidable rod as far as Northern Pikes are concerned. Most fishing guides I encounter in Quebec are absolutely amazed by this rod."
