"Lovely looking rod, great caster, but too fragile for a pack rod. After my second outing with my new TLS Power Matrix, the reel seat snapped off after I dropped the rod on the ground. I had never seen a rod do this. The reel seat was plastic and just snapped off at butt section. It casts like a dream, but plastic reel seats don't belong on a backwoods pack rod...not durable enough. Service was great, but I still have to pay $30 to repair the rod."

1st Trout on TLS
"This was my very first fly rod. I purchased this with the Battenkill Bar Stock Reel III reel. It was recommended as a good all-around rod at a reasonable price – it delivered. Breaks down nicely, sturdy rod tube. I fished all season my first year with it and I am very pleased with my purchase. I would definitely recommend this product; it is a great value for the price."

"I have to say that there may be fancier rods out there, but dollar-for-dollar, this may be the best value in the Orvis catalogue. I've fished with rods twice the price, but none better. This is a workhorse of a rod at a great price! Thanks."

"After 45 years as a conventional bass fisherman, in the fall of 2007 my wife and I walked in the outfitter's shop at a resort, took a fly fishing lesson and caught a dozen rainbows in an hour and caught the "fly bug" for life. She bought me a TLS Power Matrix 865-4 Mid Flex rod for Christmas 2007. I have worn it out in the back yard trying to learn how to cast and actually fished with it a dozen times. Orvis stuff just looks good. I love this rod and would recommend it to anyone as an excellent all around rod to start out with."

"Just purchased a TLS Power Matrix 865-4 on July 15, 2006 from your Authorized Dealer Grand Lakes Outfitters in Orlando FL. Took it on a float trip down the Watauga River in TN with Tim from Foscoe Fishing Company. The rod helped me feel and catch over 20 rainbows and a couple of browns. Not to mention the stikes I just plain missed. Just wish I had listened more to Tim. He was a fantastice guide/instructor. Would highly recommend Foscoe Fishing for the guide service and Grand Lakes for the service provided in assisting me with the purchase of my TLS.
